The eighth and final song on the soundtrack of my life is “On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson and it is by far the longest. I chose this song to represent the Licking Valley Marching Panther’s trip to Monroeville Pennsylvania for Bands of America competition, because it was quite the adventure. The day started out when I woke up at 5:30 in the morning and started getting ready. I had to be at the school by 7 and I knew that there was a huge possibility that I would be back until 3:00 am the next day. We got on the busses and left by 8:00 and set off for the long day ahead of us. We watched “Pitch Perfect” and sang along to every song because we’re music kids, and then turned on “Toy Story” because we are all children at heart. We got to the competition and started unloading the trailer and getting dressed. We then proceeded to warm ups. Next we got a …show more content…
motivational speech from Mr. Bradley and started walking to the field. That performance was my best performance all season. I had perfectly rolled feet, I hit all of my marks and I played the high notes with confidence. After we got off the field, we headed to pictures, got some much needed drinks, then headed to the busses to change and put our instruments away. Then we walked back to the field and watched all the other bands. Then it was time for preliminary awards, we won sixth overall, first place and best everything in our class, and for the first time in Licking Valley History, we made it to finals. After awards we ate and played around until it started raining and all 80 of us had to crowd onto a single bus. As a claustrophobic person I didn’t exactly enjoy sitting on a non airconditioned bus with 79 other people but it didn’t last long because the hosts opened up the school and let us say in there. It was still crowded but not nearly as hot. Then we had to get ready again to do our finals performance. We skipped our warm up and instead we sat in the building with our sections and went over important things to fix. Then we performed on the soaked turf in the pouring rain. It wasn’t as good of a performance as the one before but it was still really good. We then watched all of the other bands again and then went through another awards ceremony. We got 8th in finals. We started towards home after all receiving medals, and I fell into a very light sleep.
I awoke to a stopped bus that wreaked of smoke. After a minute I realized that we were in the white lines between the highway and an exit in west virginia. Then I heard someone say “I think the bus is on fire”. My first thought was “why are we still on here” and my second thought was “where are my pretzels”. We evacuated the bus, (I was smart enough to grab a blanket but I couldn’t find my pretzels) then proceeded to stand on the side of the road for quite some time while we waited for them to figure out what was up and why it was smoking. Next we sat on the bus for an hour waiting for the boys to get off of their bus at a rest stop so that the bus could come get us. Then we drove to the rest stop and on the way, the light on that bus went out. So we all waited at this rest stop for a new bus to come. This place was cold! People were using maps as blankets so when I got there I had to fight for mine. I ended up having half of it taken up by a cranky and cold dean who wanted to walk around with the blanket and brag to
others. All that was going through my mind was my favorite lyric, “On the road again, Just can’t wait to get on the road again.” When the new bus showed up at the rest stop, we tried to fit as many as possible on it, but girls who drove to the school and most of the guys stayed behind because the lack of room on the bus. The first bus got back to the school at 6:00 in the morning on September 20th and after dropping us off turned around to go get the others. They got back after 8:00. It was a long day, but because I’m a morning person, I had a great time. I didn’t go to sleep until I knew that the other bus got back safe, and I wasn’t even that tired. It was an all around great day!
Whenever I play this song, I can’t help but remember my childhood. My parents struggled financially but, that was never an excuse for them. They always took my brothers and I out on small adventures. One of the most memorable memories I get when I play this song is when my parents would take us out to park to have a barbecue, while my brothers and I ran through the park till we became tired and hungry. Whenever I need a break from the world, I listen to this song just to remind myself of those special moments, even though those days won’t ever return, they are memories I will always treasure.
Many songs were incorporated into the story line, such as “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” and “So Long, Farewell.”
It was the day of April 13, 2000. I woke up at exactly 12 o’clock because my boyfriend was to pick me up at 1 like we planned the night before. The day looked quite nice, but I was in a fowl mood. I got into a car accident the night before and had a huge argument with my parents about the car. I finally dragged myself into the shower and got ready in half an hour. Then I went downstairs, sat on my couch, and repeatedly told myself the day would hopefully turn out better than last night. At around 1:15, my boyfriend came to pick me up. We took the 5 freeway to the 57 since it was the only way I knew how to get there. As we approached the 134 freeway, my girlfriend veered to the right, taking the 210 which was wrong way and got us lost. So, we exited the freeway and got back on the right track. Then finally, before long, we reached Norton Simon.
When I learned that I would have to do my ethnographic report on what I did during Halloween, I was worried because I live in Turnpike and the most excitement that happens in turnpike is the sound of the garbage truck when it comes to pick up the Wednesday trash. Fortunately something did happen to me and I realized I would not have to write a boring paper of how I woke up and just stayed in my room the whole day. Well the day started off with me waking up and walking to the bathroom to take a shower, as soon as the turned the water on I realized I had left my shower and rather than turning off my shower I stayed in because the warmth of the hot water was too seductive for me to get out and get my towel. In the shower I had my usual thoughts about life, death, and comebacks to old arguments. Afterword I got out of my shower and reached for my toothbrush, which was located in a cupboard behind the toilet, but I grabbed at it too quickly and it fell in the toilet. I stood over my toilet for about five minutes just staring at my toothbrush in the toilet not believing what just happened, after that I started blaming myself for being too impatient. When I was done feeling sorry for myself I went into my room in search of another toothbrush but unluckily I couldn’t find one, so I had to go walk to the local store at around 7:30 in search of a toothbrush. While searching for a replacement toothbrush I realized that not that many people were in the store, I had always thought that stores were busiest in the morning and evening but apparently that’s not true. Once I got my new toothbrush I finished brushing, got dressed and went to catch the 11 to the Transit Center.
The sweat was dripping down my face as I pushed the weights off my chest. Everyone ran towards their bags after a student said there was a gun in school. Twitter was the first source that we checked just to make sure. Boom! The door slammed open as coach Ben yells “Hurry up and get out”. My heart started beating faster and faster. We didn’t know what was going on. As we were running to the gym everyone was panicking and pushing each other. I could feel the burn on my elbow but I didn’t know what it was. When we got to the gym my elbow was covered in blood. We were told to get down and stay quiet. Later on we were told a student brought a gun to school and was planning on committing suicide. That was one of many gun incidents at my high school.
Alfred Noyes uses repetition and diction to create suspense in the poem “The Highwayman”. The author uses various examples of repetition and diction. In the story Noyes states, “And the highwayman came riding/Riding-riding-/ The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn door”. This conveys a feeling of fear using repetition. The reader does not know what is going to happen next. In part two, paragraph one, when the redcoat troops seize the landlord’s home, Noyes uses repetition again stating, “A red-coat troop came marching/ Marching-/marching-marching-/ King George’s men came marching, up to the old inn-door”. This conveys that the red-coat troops are attacking the landlord’s home. This leaves the reader wondering what the troop is going to
The poem “First Poem for You” by Kim Addonizio is a sonnet written by a woman contemplating on the permanence of her lover’s tattoos. The sonnet focuses on the speaker’s perspective of her lover’s tattoos as she appears to regard them with fascination and aversion. Upon closer analysis, it could be said that the speaker’s contemplation of her lover’s tattoos is a reflection of her perspective of their relationship. By comparing the permanence of her lover’s tattoos to the fleeting nature of relationships, the speaker addresses the uncertainty of their relationship and her desire for the relationship to become permanent.
One of my all-time favorite songs that tells a story is, "Love Like Crazy," by Lee Brice. This song tells about how Lee Brice went through life and how he made it through with the love of his life. "Be a best friend, tell the truth, and overuse ‘I love you,’ go to work, do your best, don`t out smart your common sense, never let your praying knees get lazy, and love like crazy," is a meaningful line from the lyrics of the song. This line of the lyrics tells how a person can get through life through the good and bad times. More people in this world should take this song as advice for life. I have listened to this song over a thousand times, and I get more out of it each time I listen to it. I relate to this song`s story because I am living this story right now in my life. I was seventeen when I found the love of my life. Everyone around me told me I was crazy, and I had no clue what love was. I have proven them wrong so far because I have been with the love of my life for four years now. Also, I am a child grew up with nothing and I have learned that I have to work for what I what in life. I have worked since I was fifteen, and I have loved every minute of it. I also am one who will follow my dreams even if everyone around me is telling me that I cannot do it, or I am not able to do it. This song`s story has been an inspiration to me in many
In Sharon Old 's poem "Last Night " an erotic encounter between a man and women takes the reader through a rollercoaster of emotions in only a matter of seconds. Initially, the assumption could be made that this poem is a love poem, which it may be. But it is also a poem about an encounter with nature, graced with a feminine tone as it is being told through the women’s’ point of view. Olds uses descriptive metaphors and symbolic points drawn from nature, while also applying violent imagery and grammar throughout the poem; this allows the audience to feel a connection between submissive and aggressive feelings, and at the same time bringing to the surface what sex and love have to do with each other, if anything at all. A feminist point of view mixed with the harsh and aggressive imagery and symbolic notions, creates the question in the readers mind: Is the woman really in love or is the novelty of this experience what she mistakes for love? Different assumptions could be made because the truth of what the lovers relationship is, never gets explained. Instead, Old’s forces her audience to come to their own resolution after digesting the real emotions this poem brings to the surface.
I woke up my dad and told him that it was already light outside. He jumped out of bed and said we had to go. I went outside and started up the truck while my dad was getting dressed. When I opened the door to the trailer I noticed clear blue skies and a light frost that covered the ground. I jumped in the driver's seat of the 1990 white GMC Sierra, pushed in the clutch, and turned the key. The truck hesitated for about ten seconds and then started. I turned on the defroster and the windshield wipers so we wouldn?t have to scrape the frost.
I put all of my bag and my suitcase into the car and then came in to eat dinner. After eating and watching tv for a bit we headed to the school where we are supposed to meet for the buses. When we got there it was 8 o’clock and starting to get dark and cold outside. We all met in the gym with our parents and waited for a half an hour before the teachers started letting the students loading there bags and suitcases onto the bus. After saying our goodbyes to our parents we got on the bus and started to head to D.C. The bus ride there it was pretty boring since everyone was tired from the school day so most of us past out including me. After a few hours of sleeping, the bus stopped at a bus station so that everyone could use the restroom and once I got off the bus I had a loss of balance since my eyes didn 't want to open from sleeping so I couldn 't see where I was going most of the time. But I managed to use the restroom and get back to my seat alright. Once I sat down I fell right
Because I Could Not Stop for Death In the poem "Because I could not stop for death", Emily Dickinson talks about her acceptance of death as something inevitable that comes to her and she has no control over it; although she seems confused about being alive or dead as she keeps narrating. Arthur Yvor Winters, an American poet and literary critic stated "This is a remarkably beautiful poem on the subject of daily realization of the imminence of death. " It’s a poem of departure from life, an intensely conscious leave-taking. And Allen Tate, a distinguished American poet, teacher, and critic, called this "an extraordinary poem".
This old/new bus continued our route, and we all sat quietly, awaiting our stops. Everyone had a tired, almost forlorn look, as though they had been through much more than just switching buses. I did not have any concept of time as the bus chugged along, stopping occasionally to let people off, and all of a sudden I recognized that it was almost to my stop. I jerked out of the stupor I was in as the bus stopped in front of my apartment complex. As I gathered up my things to leave, I looked at my friends and said, "Well, this will make one interesting story at school tomorrow!"
My story started about a week ago. I was heading to bed early, because I was tired from a long day with plans to wake up a few hours before class to review for a test. As I closed my books for the evening and headed to bed around midnight, little did I know something was going on outside.
I jumped out of the car with my two sisters and ran to the bathroom. When we left the bathroom, we walked back to the car. We saw that our dad was still putting gas in the car, so we went into the store to buy some sweets. I bought “warheads” that said extremely sour, and a bag of chips called “baked with fire” that looked like they would taste really hot. When we purchased our food, we walked back to the car. As soon as we started driving, I opened my bag of chips. I was so scared that they would be extremely hot. For that reason, I also bought a bottle of water. I opened it before I took a bite out of the chip. Luckily, they were not hot at all! I grabbed my sour candy and tasted it. My face changed so quickly; that I started to squint my eyes and point my lips. I could not take another bite of it because it was really sour! Eventually, I was not hungry anymore. Probably because I ate my whole bag of chips and a sandwich. When I finished eating, I was feeling exhausted, so I took a long nap. I woke up, and dad told me that we only needed to drive for one more hour. While we were driving through town, we saw a row of trees on fire! It was so smoky that we could barely see the street we were driving on. I felt scared for life and terrified that we might crash. After a few more minutes of driving, the smoke cleared up and we could see again. Finally, the hour passed and we arrived in California. Mrs.
