Occupational Interview The person I chose to interview for my Occupational Interview was Mr. Troy Johnson, a practicing licensed clinical counselor. He is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, but practices counseling in Houston, Texas. His initial interest in psychology began while working at a substance abuse clinic in his early adulthood. While assisting counselors at the clinic, he had discovered his passion and care for patients who suffered daily from addictions. As Mr. Johnson said, “I grew love for it.” First, the substance abuse clinic that shaped his career and passion was in New York. Although he had applied for the job for basic income, it soon developed into something more. While he worked at the clinic, he grew close to many of the psychologist and began training with them. As a result, the psychologists allowed him to study with the researchers, where they studied change in behavior of addicts. During his involvement with the research team, his understanding and interest in psychotherapy grew immensely, so much so he decided to major in Psychology and substance abuse as his specialty. …show more content…

While there he volunteered with the graduate school of social work. The research he participated in “developed and instrumented the measure of impact of substance abuse before the storm(Katrina) and how it affected them afterwards.” He said, “For example, a patient was on cocaine before the storm, did devastation for leaving their setting stop the addition or pick it back up?” Mr. Johnson said they used records and ethnographic to measure the change. Throughout the research process he was grateful to learn about system dynamics, group dynamics, and significant factors of substance abuse.
