It helps in the implementation of new changes in the lifelong care of people and is also used in development of treatments that provide optimal level of health care. The research involved in nursing mainly focuses on development and promotion of high levels of standards in areas of quality management for long term illness patients, developing standards that reduce number of diseases in a community, helping instilling techniques and treatments that enhance quality of life as well as easing transition for patients in terminal stages of a disease.

According to Parahoo (2014), Nursing research is a systematic inquiry designed to come up with knowledge about several issues of the importance to the nursing profession including education, nursing practice, informatics and administration Nieswiadomy, and Bailey (2017) on the other hand define nursing research as a scientific process adopted by hospitals and health care professionals that refines and validates existing knowledge and generates new knowledge that indirectly and directly influences nursing practice. from this two definition, education and nursing research can be defined as the objective and systematic process of analyzing phenomena of importance to nursing .
PURPOSES OF NURSING RESEARCH
The nursing research is classified based on general purpose of the study. There is basic research and applied research. Basic research is mainly concerned with generation of new knowledge whereas applied research is concerned with the use of knowledge to solve immediate problems in healthcare.
Parahoo (2014) refers basic research to as pure research conducted to develop, test and refine theories and generate new knowledge to help in provision of quality and effective health services to patients. In other cases, basic research is said to seek more knowldeg for knowdleg sakes. Basic research mainly makes use of animal testing to come up with new ways and medication

Trends in nursing
Research is a systematic inquiry that uses disciplined methods to answer questions and solve problems. The ultimate goal of research is to gain knowledge that would be useful to many people. The Tuskegee study was initially started to study the effects of untreated Syphilis for about six to nine months, followed by treatment phase which gained public interest and outcry from public which led to actions initiated by US federal. The knowledge and information gathered from the study was very small compared to the risk that the men and their family endured. The participants and the families got compensated after a lawsuit was filed, but the physical, emotional and mental damaged caused cannot be

“The term nursing science was rarely used in the literature until the late 1950s. However, since that time there has been an increasing emphasis, one might even say a sense of urgency, regarding the development of a b...
Nursing research is a systematic enquiry that seeks to add new nursing knowledge to benefit patients, families and communities. It encompasses all aspects of health that are of interest to nursing, including promotion of health, prevention of illness, care of people of all ages during illness and recovery (or) towards a peaceful and dignified death (ICN 2009)
According to Orem, nursing science is a practical science, in that knowledge is developed for the direct purpose of nursing practice itself (Barbara, 2011). The goal of nursing science is to look for an understanding of the actual realities that are concerning to nurses and the nursing practice (Orem, 2001). We can do this through both research and producing scholarly articles. “Nursing science is the science of which knowledge is developed for the sake of the work to be done” (Barbara, 2011, p. 44). Without the nursing science as the backbone of nursing, the nursing practice would seize to exist, or at least have difficulty staying alive. Nursing science offers nurses the knowledge, skills and competency to develop order and direction in their nursing care (Malinowski, 2002). Models of case studies, rules and standards of practice along with the various
INTRODUCTION There are many things that affect a student’s enrolment as a nurse the student must be competent in the many registration standards that the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia have set. Research is a pivotal tool necessary in order to expand knowledge. It provides the basis of evidence that leads to discoveries. This is especially crucial in nursing and health care. Nursing research allows nurses to further understand illness, prevention of disease, and effective ways to provide optimal health care (National Institute of Nursing Research, 2003).
Once upon a time, my best friend, Bryan Martinez, often heard his mother’s medical conversations with friends. One day at school, our teacher confronted Mrs. Martinez and told her that she was able tell that Bryan was a son from a nurse. Apparently there was an incident at school where a little boy was acting out and Bryan told our teacher that the little boy was agitated, and to give him some medication to calm him down. As demonstrated by Bryan, nursing is ongoing profession that promotes the health and well-being of individuals.
For nursing, research has played a major role in the way clinical practice is done. Research has allowed nurses to provide appropriate care to patients. It allows them to perform their job by providing them the tools and information they need in order to make the decisions on the concerns for caring the patient (Polit & Beck, 2006). Moreover, research can also take focus on the workers themselves in order to improve the practice both on a professional and personal level. An example of a study conducted by King, Vidourek, and Schweibert of University of Cincinnati created a study to determine if there is a correlation between ...
Nursing entails self- directed and cooperative health care for the society at large in all contexts. It includes the promotion of appropriate practices to enhance health, prevention of diseases,
There are two types of methods in research they are quantitative and qualitative and they can be combined. Quantitative research is very concise and based on statistical data and can show where the problem originated and the outcome. The quantitative research is considered a hard science it looks at measurable aspects of the human experience (Blais & Hayes, 2016). A controlled study can be considered quantitative research. Qualitative research is based on perspectives. It can vary with nurse to nurse. It is more descriptive than the quantitative research. It is more biased data and does not show where the problem originates or the conclusion of a specific study. According to Blais and Hayes (2016) qualitative research “allows exploration of the subjective experiences of human beings and can provide nursing with a better understanding of phenomena from the client’s perspective” (pg.197). This type of research is not as accurate and can have varied responses whereas quantitative is more exact and shows relations of
Nursing theory is the foundation of the nursing practice, has been researched, measured for positive outcomes, and directed nursing care since the beginning. Nurses to improve their practice of providing positive patient care if guidelines are followed can use nursing theories. The purpose of theory is to have a model to follow to deliver safe and effective care, and to achieve positive patient outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to define theory and the purpose of theory, explain the four patterns of the nursing metaparadigm and explain the importance of theory in the nursing practice.
Critical thinking requires systematic disciplined use of universal intellectual standards (Paul and Elder, 2012). In nursing, the nursing process is a set of organized steps that aid a nurse in thinking critically and focus on how to solve problems related to the patient. The scholarly foundation of nursing practice was not expressed until the 1960s, when nursing teachers and pioneers started to distinguish and name the segments of nursing 's scholarly procedures. This denoted the start of the nursing process.
Research is systematic way to find out facts and knowledge as Kothari (2006) has analyzed that research is the pursuit of truth with the help of study, observation, comparison and experiment; the search for knowledge through objective and systematic method of finding solutions to a problem. However there are two types of researches one is by Purpose and other is by method. The type by purpose falls into three categorize such as Basic, Applied and Action Research.
