The scientific basis for the health of the public that provides the scientific foundation for the practice of the profession is nursing research. Nursing research includes utilizing numerous philosophical and theory-based approaches as well as various methodologies (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2015). Furthermore, nursing research involves identifying and treating symptoms of acute and chronic illnesses as well as the prevention and delaying of the disease process. Nursing research also focuses on deferring the onset of the disease process, disability, slowing the progression and improving clinical settings. The recommendation is to guarantee that adequate numbers of faculty are available to prepare nurses for the delivery of healthcare services (Smelzer et al., 2015). Research shows that growth in the DNP programs has overtaken growth in Ph.D. programs, and thus moving doctoral education into greater numbers than Ph.D. graduates (Smelzer et al., 2015).Furthermore, the necessity for leadership development in all areas of the nursing profession is crucial in meeting the growing demand to increase the effectiveness of higher education for nurses. Therefore, the professional socialization and the educational processes to best prepare nurses and nurse scientists to succeed are also appropriate applications of the nursing …show more content…

Therefore the DNP project is not research, but it is a project of quality of improvement. Quality improvement includes increasing life expectancy and eliminating health disparities among the diverse sectors of population (Waldrop, 2014).
