I made a survey in English class asking my classmates about what they think when they hear the word, “Italians.” Most of my classmates answered: pizza, Italian food, Jersey Shore, slicked back hair, and that Italians are fat (Reyes Survey). These stereotypes come from the portrayal of Italians in the media. The Italians are usually found in gangster-related, family or reality shows, for example, Jersey Shore and The Sopranos. Italians in these shows are shown as being in contact with the mafia, having olive skin and dark black hair, are uneducated and flaunt their money around and that they love their pasta and pizza. The portrayals of the Italians are negative since not all Italians are the same.
2005 will mark the 100-year anniversary of the first pizzeria in America. Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza each day, which is about 350 slices per second. According to an American Dairy Association random sampling survey, pizza is America’s fourth most craved food behind cheese, chocolate, and ice cream. American’s obviously love pizza; we have even designated the month of October as National Pizza Month. But whether you bake your pizza in your kitchen oven, in a wood-burning stove, eat it in a restaurant, or choose delivery, there is no denying this phenomenon has become as American as apple pie.
Thinking back to our childhood, we all remember hearing many kinds of fairy tales. Some of them inspired us others confused us, and most of them taught us valuable lessons. Through out centuries tales and stories have been used as a valuable tool to pass on our culture to new generations. There is a strong belief that these fairy tales mirror and influence society. All cultures interpret tales in their own unique way. They add and subtract various aspects of the tale to fit the needs of their particular society. The same tale in the United States is different from the tale told in Asia. A good example of tale evolution can be seen in one of the most famous tales ever told which is “Cinderella”. As a professor of women’s history Karol Kelley points out in her essay Pretty Woman: A Modern Cinderella “There are some 700 versions of Cinderella”.This fairy tale as many others has been changing for many years, and in recent years Cinderella has come under some criticism for its depiction of women’s roles in society.

Sicilian cooking is unique in Italy, blending extravagant Arab and northern techniques with simple peasant ingredients. Most meals were based mainly on the catch of the day and the pick of the garden. Today’s cuisine is an amazing mosaic reflecting every foreign invasion that took place: Greek tyrants, Arabs, Norman knights, Byzantine bishops, Holy Roman emperors, Phoenicians. Sicily is Europe, Africa, and Asia on one island.
When I think about Italy, food and wine come to mind. Many foods we love are part of the Italian culture, pizza, pasta, cheese, and some desserts. Most of the wine we drink in America comes from Italy. “Italy is also now the largest exporter of wine a...
Overall, Spain and Italy may have multiple similarities, but they also are very different in some ways. They speak different languages, eat different foods and have different lifestyles. After comparing and contrasting the two countries, you should be able to decide which country you like more. They both have some great things, but they have different cultures. Although both countries are interesting and many people love both of them, they each have their own qualities that make the countries
Fresh and right out of the oven is how I like my pizza. Baked dough, mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce these are all the ingredients you need to make the perfect pizza pie. There are numerous topics that can be compared and contrasted between the two faiths, however, a few topics can demonstrate the major similarities and differences. Islam and Christianity believe in one high power which is superior to everything in life. Pertaining to Christianity, Walsh and Middleton state, “All creation (which includes us as human creatures) is covenantally bound to God and is constituted essentially as a response to his laws” (1984, p. 51). One type of pasta is Pappardelle. Pappardelle is “a wide egg noodle with Tuscan origins, pappardelle is often served with hearty meat sauces, as in Plated’s Winter Ragout Pappardelle recipe (Plated, 2017).” “Farfalle, also called bow tie pasta for its shape, farfalle (the Italian word for butterfly) makes a great cold pasta salad, and can also dress up a warm bowl of meat and veggies, as in our Farfalle with Fresh Sausage and English Peas recipe (Plated, 2017).” There are many types of pasta like shells, campanelle, bucatini, angel hair, and Gnocchi. Gnocchi is a different type of pasta in that majority of time pasta is made from bread and water while Gnocchi is made from potato. There also many brands of pasta. Semolina is rough-ground flour that is made of the endosperm of the durum wheat (Fuad & Prabhasnkar, 2010). Durum wheat has high content of protein and the carotenoid pigment lutein, which gives the yellow color to the pasta (Debbouz & Doetkott, 1996; Fuad & Prabhasnkar, 2010). Most of the protein content is gluten and it is considered to be the most important factor in high quality pasta (Fuad & Prabhasnkar, 2010). Pasta is a popular food because of its ease of preparation, sensory appeal, low cost and storage stability (Fuad & Prabhasnkar, 2010; Martinez et al, 2007).
