In his article “No food is healthy. Not even kale,” Michael Ruhlman insists that food companies are advertising food products with incorrect word selection. Meaning that we are allowing food corporations to think for us and are not truly educated on what we are consuming. Even though this is not a debate on what we should and should not consume, Ruhlman suggest, Americans are not getting the appropriate information to make informed choices about what they eat due to nomenclature which causes confusion for the consumer. For example, When Rulman was in a grocery store he watched a woman buy a carton of Land O’ Lakes Fat-Free Half and Half under the impression that it was fat free, but it was not the item displayed incorrect word selection. In my experience it was not Land O’ Flakes it was a Pomegranate Blueberry Naked smoothie beverage. This product is advertised as a 100% juice. Now just from the label I learned that there were more ingredients then just juice. This beverage is displayed as healthy but contains 32 grams of sugar, which is severely close to the maximum of 50 grams of sugar a woman should consume per day. After I did some more researched I also learned that when the whole container is consumed the grams of sugar almost double in consumption, which is not healthy at all. I was intrigued to buy this product due to the word selection HEALTHY but not truly informed how not healthy this product was for
