Up until this point I had never known about the concept of a new heaven. I had heard about the new earth, but new heaven was foreign. I had wondered before this class what would happen to everyone in heaven when Jesus came again. I guess I just thought that whoever was in heaven at that time would stay there, and all the believers on earth would live on the new earth separately. Now that I think about it, that logic sounds odd. It does not really make sense that everyone would be separated for eternity. It seems more reasonable that heaven would come down to earth and together they would be new. It does not really matter where heaven is because it is wherever God is, so when God decides to renew the earth, he is coming down to dwell on it
Heaven is a wonderful place, right? Judeo-Christians think of heaven as a place of luxury, a place with no tears, pain, labor, death, or destruction. Long before Christians held this premise, Egyptian’s believed in an afterlife in the fields of Re with timeless leisure. In order to attain such a life after death, they prepared their bodies to be made new: they mummified and entombed their pharaohs and people of stature. While this mummification and entombment ensured their afterlife, the common man also had a hope of crossing the great river and resting upon its golden shores. To the Egyptians, life on this earth was merely a dream from which one might someday awake. Judeo-Christians take many cultural and religious world-views from the Egyptian culture. Examples include burying the dead and the idea that cremation is barbaric. At burials today, bodies are usually dressed in their Sunday best. Jesus himself was wrapped in linen and entombed. Life on earth is but a prelude of the one to come (a dream or test).
Heaven is a place on earth. In the hit Netflix original television series Black Mirror, specifically the episode “San Junipero,” individuals are allotted 5 hours a week to enter a virtual reality to live as a younger version of themselves. Individuals can then choose to ‘pass over’ or upload their consciousness into a cloud and become permanent residents of the town, San Junipero. The show centers around two women who become lovers connected by their want of nostalgia. Nostalgia defined by Svetlana Boym is a “longing for a home that no longer exists or has never existed… a sentiment of loss and displacement” (XIII). San Junipero, has allowed two broken people connected by nostalgia to live together forever in a utopia but in reality, San Junipero
We are not going to go anywhere for heaven, as Write states in his book “Indicates that this will take place within the context of God’s victorious transformation of the whole cosmos” (101). When People think of the word “Transformation” it is thought as our bodily transformation, not the earth. Think about this, God has made this earth for us. He gave us this world to live in, why would he get rid of it, God is not just going to scrape this earth we live on, but he will make into the heaven we think off. He will not only reconstruct our bodies, but he will make the whole earth perfect again. The Garden of Eden was on this earth, heaven will be like the Garden, on this earth. God named us care takers of this earth, we need to stop thinking of heaven as some faraway place Jesus is going to bring us too, but Jesus will come here, and as Write states, He will not come and just improve it, but he will come and make into the perfect earth that represents the glory of God. This is hard for a lot of people to wrap their heads around. Everyone wants to think about leaving this world

HEAVEN – CHOOSE ONE OF THE AFTER DEATH SITUATIONS (HEAVEN) AND ANALYSE WHETHER IT WAS PERCEIVED AS A PLACE OR A STATE DURING THE LATER MIDDLE AGES. The period between 1300 and 1500 has been classified as the later Middle Ages, with Heaven finding a significant place in the minds of society at the time. Arguments and critics have surrounding the issue of Heaven as a state or a place, with the perceptions during the later Middle Ages forming a significant time period in the debate. However, arguably, heaven in the later Middle Ages was more regarding as a place within the perception of individuals, with elements of tangible, locational nature evident in much of the literature surrounding the debate.
Santeria is a setup of credence that include aspects of Yoruba mythology. It was brought to the New world- Cuba, Brazil, Haiti, the Southern USA, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad by Nigerians or “Yoruba slaves” along with Christianity and indigenous American traditions. During the time of transition and oppression, the need for preservation of their culture in a new world became a way of surviving. In order to practice their religion, Yoruba slaves were obliged to merge their customs with aspects of Catholicism which fusion to what’s known as Santeria. Santeria is a religion that aims to strengthen relationships between mortals and powerful spirits called Orishas. Followers believe that spirits will help them in life, if the appropriate rituals are performed. Despite that animal sacrifice it is not the main form of “offering” as a ritual, they are indeed part of Santeria.
Within the Trinity evangelical church they use Halloween, more known as a pagan holiday, as an opportunity to reach and commit young people to Christ. They do this with the creation of the Hell House. As much as the Hell House is a fright tactic they will argue otherwise and claim the haunted house to be for educational purposes. Each Halloween they begin the Hell House by putting a think group together where they share ideas and work to create a show that fulfills their religious purposes. After ideas are taken scripts are written and rewritten. This process was shown as well as the auditions that were held for these roles in Hell House. The majority of these acting roles for Hell House are made for young adults at Trinity’s private school within the church. After all the building and preparation that goes into the Hell House the viewer finally gets to see the reality Trinity Church worked so hard to portray. When you see the ins and outs of what the church does to scare the people who come through, as a viewer you are mortified. Their lines they use are vulgar and the scenes are personal. At some moments all one can do is wide eyed watch in horror not out of fright, but shock. While other times the class laughed out of astonishment. Their attempts are not out of love like they claim for God’s children, but
“Saint Nicholas, also called Nikolaos of Myra, was a historic 4th-century Christian saint and Greek Bishop of Myra, in Asia Minor.” He was born in Patara, Lycia, Turkey on March 15, 270 AD and passed away on the sixth of December 343 AD. St. Nicholas was a bishop who helped those that were in need and that were sick, after he passed away in December he turn into the legendary character known as Santa Claus now this was because he was a gift-giving person when he was alive. His feast day is in December 6 of every year, St. Nicholas is an inspiring saint from my perspective as a person.
Saint Sophia is the Saint I chose for my confirmation name. My Great- Grandmother Sophia Meuser is why I chose the name, but since I learned more about Saint Sophia I am glad I chose it for other reasons too. My Great Grandmother had strong Catholic faith just like Saint Sophia. She walked to church every day from her house even until she was in her eighties. When she could not do the walk anymore my Grandpa helped her find daily mass on her TV.
St. Benedict’s rules required a very strict way of life for the monks. His rules if followed lead to a very minimalistic type of life, one that could fully focus on god. His rules require one to be completely humble, since one who is completely humble will never think of oneself but fully focus on living a life devoted to god.
John begins with what he saw. John says is “Revelation 21:1 I saw a new heaven and new earth.” This a prophetic statement that has yet to be fulfilled. We are still in anticipation of the final events to take place in the book Revelation.
To me heaven is a place that someone goes to when they die and it is a place that would make them happy. Whenever someone dies, we start by saying at least they won’t be in pain anymore. Then we continue on to say that they are going to be happy because they will be back with their loved ones that passed before them. I feel that heaven is different for everyone, that it is not one set place and it is there to make us happy or help us cope with death.
It's said that the only way into heaven is through Jesus Christ, in the book of John it even says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Christians believe that heaven is the place where they go after they die, if they live by God, and for those who refuse to change their sinner ways and are judged irredeemable will go to hell. Heaven is described as a place where sadness and death aren't experienced anymore, and where people will live the rest of their eternal lives in the Kingdom of God. Then believers think that after the second coming happens, Christ will reign in heaven for a millenniums. That’s the period of judgment and all those who embrace God will continue their eternal life and their names will be in the Book of Life. Those who don't embrace God will perish in a lake of fire which is referred to as the second death. The first death was when their human life ended. The lake of fire is then supposed to burn the earth and transform it into "New Earth" where only righteousness
The Christian realist understands that evil exists as a result of man’s brokenness- each individual by nature is sinful and self-centered. If this is left unchecked, this brokenness will eventually resort to extreme behavior to secure their desire. This is the permanent struggle and the establishment of laws is to provide order in society by curtailing this selfish and detrimental behavior. In an approach to immigration, the Christian realist accepts the laws of the state as the best way to curtail this brokenness in man and uses this to justify a position of not supporting an open border. The regulation of the border is a way of providing man with the guidance which is needed to curtail his desire for self-centered goals. The need of the greater whole is what supersedes when faced with the choice between a nation’s stability and helping the stranger. Even Jesus’ vision of heaven is called ‘upside-down kingdom’ because how different it is from the way of man. Thus, the regulation of states in all issues, including immigration policy is important as left to the individual
What is Christianity? To some it is just another religion, to others it is a way of life. Much of society has a misconstrued view of Christians. They don’t always understand why someone wants to live like that or why someone would want to follow a bunch of ancient scribblings. I don’t blame them. The problem with Christianity is often that it is too religious. In Orange is the New Black, Piper Kerman mentions how many inmates were religious, but few had faith that she felt was genuine. This is commonly seen by outsiders and the idea of religion often turns them away from Christianity. I used to be very religious but now hate religion because of this.
