Saint Sophia is the Saint I chose for my confirmation name. My Great- Grandmother Sophia Meuser is why I chose the name, but since I learned more about Saint Sophia I am glad I chose it for other reasons too. My Great Grandmother had strong Catholic faith just like Saint Sophia. She walked to church every day from her house even until she was in her eighties. When she could not do the walk anymore my Grandpa helped her find daily mass on her TV. Saint Sophia was a good Catholic that had a lot of faith in God. In the end, she really give her life defending her faith. She never gave in and denied God like they wanted her to and neither did her daughters. Saint Sophia’s faith is a good example of undying faith in God. Saint Sophia was born in the first century to an Italian family. She got married and had three daughters. Her husband died right after her third daughter was …show more content…
He did not like that they talked about their faith to everyone. Antiochus went to Emperor Hadrian and told him about Sophia. He told the Emperor about them and how he did not like them. So when Emperor Hadrian heard that Sophia and her daughters were in Rome he sent his soldiers to get them. The Holy Virgins in Rome heard that Sophia and her daughters were being taken to the Emperor so they all started praying for them to be strong and to keep their faith. Everyone around could not believe how strong and not scared they all looked when they went in front of the Emperor. Emperor Hadrian did not believe how strong their belief in God was. He said all kinds of bad things about God to try and get them to change their mind and deny their faith. He was jealous of their faith because he wanted to be more important than God to them and everyone. He thought they would only keep repeating their faith because they were always together, so he decided to talk to each daughter separately and tried to get them to deny God. They never

Not much is known about the early life of St. Perpetua. In fact, most of what we know about her comes from a diary that was kept in her last days on earth. However, what we do know about her life before
Highly recognized by people, saints are famous around the world by people of all different backgrounds. Many different Christian-based religions have or use saints as a purpose to get people to pray more often than they would usually, or have them to be used as “communion saints”. There are over 10,000 saints, many with different backgrounds, histories, and meanings. Some of them are patron saints, which shield or protect a certain person, place, or thing. Saints can mean a lot of different things to people, with some of the most famous ones being Joan of Arc, Saint Agnes, Saint Peter, Saint Patrick, and more, But one of them, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, is easily overlooked and stands for a greater message even through her hard times.
Theodora was born about 500 C.E. to a man named Acacius and a woman whose name is unknown. Her father was a keeper of the bears for the Greens at the Hippodrome in Constantinople and died when Theodora was a young child. Theodora’s mother was exceptionally involved in her church, so when Acacius died she was able to maintain her lifestyle without having to become a “Bride of Christ” (Cesaretti 30). Theodora and her older sister Comito and her younger sister Anastasia were raised to be devout Christians, and were each given names of religious connotation. Theodora’s name means “gift of God” (Cesaretti 30).
Teresa Sánchez Cepeda Davila y Ahumada lived in Avila, Spain where she was born in 1515 and lived during the Reformation until her death at age 67. She was canonized in 1622, forty years after her death. St. Teresa's grandmother was forced to be converted from a Jew into a Christian during the Inquisition. Without her grandmother’s conversion, St. Teresa would never have become a Christian saint. Her parents were Godly people and showed tremendous integrity.
There are thousands of saints who all lived amazing and virtuous lives, and we can only pick one for Confirmation. The Saint who had the deepest impact on my heart and the one I picked was Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. She was a marvelous women who did only what was right by God. Saint Kateri was the first Native American that was recognized by the Catholic church and I have Native American in my blood going way back. Saint Kateri is important to me because she is an amazing role model, and I feel as if I can connect with her the most. Kateri is very outstanding women; she is very strong in the way she lives her life. Kateri is very connected with nature and the lives around her, which I am also.
For this assignment, I decided to research the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic order of nuns. I never before realized that there is so much behind their amazing devotion to the Catholic Church and God. I must admit that they are beautiful examples of God's teaching, and I feel truly blessed to be involved with the Sisters of Mercy. Each and every one of them has a unique story to tell about her life, but none is more intriguing than that of Sister Mary Joel Hopkinson. Having only heard bits and pieces, and not knowing for sure the steps that each of these women had to take to become who she is today, I asked Sister Mary Joel to share her story with me.

Therese Martin, future Saint Therese of Lisieux, was born on January 2, 1873 in Alecon, France. By the age of 15 she had decided upon becoming a cloistered Carmelite after wanting to follow in the footsteps of her sisters but was refused by the Carmelite superior because of her young age. After also being denied entrance by the bishop, Therese even approached Pope Leo XIII while on a pilgrimage with her father and sister. After being forbidden to speak to the Pope, Therese broke the mandatory silence and begged for his approval to be accepted into the Carmelite cloister. Pope Leo XIII was impressed with Therese and she was soon accepted into the cloister and was finally able to join up with her two older sisters. Not even a year into Therese’s acceptance, she had grown so ill with a fever that people thought she was on her death bed. Then one day while Therese saw her sisters praying to the Virgin Mary statue in her room, she saw Mary smile at her and was instantly cured. From that point on, “Little Flower” as she was commonly called, lived a re-enlightened and spiritual life that led to her becoming a doctor of the church, an author, and a patron saint.
In Syria there dwelt a company of wealthy traders who made a journey to Rome. After a certain time there, they beheld Constance, the emperor's daughter, who was renowned equally for her goodness and beauty. When the merchants returned to Syria, they reported to the sultan what they had seen; he immediately ...
Throughout his entire life, Francis was known for his generosity. He gave lavishly to his friends, often throwing feasts for them and otherwise celebrating abundantly. Later, when he felt inclined to do more help others, he did not hesitate to sell all that he owned in order to finance the rebuilding of the church known as San Damiano. One also cannot overlook the fact that he gave not only his belongings, but devoted his whole life to giving to others and to God. Saint Francis was truly an extraordinarily giving man, who denied himself, taking up his cross to follow Jesus.
Saint Therese was born on January 2, 1873 with the name if Marie-Francoise-Therese Martin in Alencon, France. She is the patron of nurses and can be helpful when you pray to her. For example, a month ago I fractured my ankle and the doctor said I would be out for around six weeks. I prayed for her to help the pain and swelling go away. Also, I prayed to Saint Catherine, to not be out for the full six weeks, so I could go back to cheer and not miss any important national competitions. Besides being helpful she is inspiring to me, of her abilities to resist temptations and her devotion to God. One time my dad told me to only have water because it was late at night. However, I had been desperately craving iced tea all day and thought I “had” to have it. So I opened the door and took out the iced tea, but before I poured it in, I thought about my decision. I remembered how my saint was able to pray to God to help her resist her temptations. Therefore, I placed the iced tea back in the fridge and accepted water instead like my dad suggested. As a result of having thoughts to disobey my dad, I prayed to God like Catherine did for help. Saint Catherine lived a life dedicated to God in the real world (reality). It is encouraging to me that she was able to live a life fully devoted to God and not have any distractions, doubts, or fears holding her
