Social Media and How It Negatively Effects to People Who Use It. A decade ago, Facebook was launched at Harvard University and became a huge success after it was opened to the public. Later on, other social media websites like Twitter, Google+, Instagram, YouTube, and Tumblr would also become very successful as these websites owned the most used numbers daily or registered users than any other social media web on the internet.
Nowadays almost every person on this planet uses social media sites to communicate with others. According to “Social Networking Reaches Nearly One in Four around the World” (eMarketer, para 1, 2013), nearly one in four people in the world use social media daily, which is extremely a lot. Certainly, there are a lot of

By the definition of what Jesse Fleck and Leigh Jonson-Migalski said in their article “The Impact of Social Media on Personal and Professional Lives: An Adlerian Perspective.” (Fleck & Migalski, para 1, 2015). Social media refers to websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Myspace, LinkedIn and many other websites that share the same concept, where individuals can express, exchange and share their thoughts or information with one another. And it is not only limited into one or two countries, the social media is all connected on the internet to the entire world, where people can encounter different nationality, ethnicity and religion of people they never see before. Put it in other words, the users would be like going into a bar, meeting a lot of people they don’t know of, they have the option of talking to them or not to. They can choose to make friends of whoever they are interested, only they are not “really” meeting the people. Furthermore, with the revolutionary invention of personal telephone/smartphone in the late 2000’s, social media benefited from the mobility, convenience and great computing capability from smartphone. Before that people can only use social media on a computer, which you could only use it at a set place. But now everyone can surf into the Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and check on their favorite celebrities or athletes anywhere they want. That is why a lot of people love …show more content…
He also pointed out that the reason of why Generation Z are addictive to using social media was because they use it as a stress relief tool in order to avoid the difficulty, struggles and unpleasantness they have had in their daily lives. In my opinions, the other reason why teens excessively use social media and smartphones is that they don’t want to pass the time doing noting when they don’t have anything to do. They want to continually do something all the time and avoid the awkwardness when they were alone. With this intention, social media and smartphones are very handy tools to
Some say that social media allows them to stay in contact. They proclaim that meeting new people from all over the world is exciting. In his essay “Social Connections”, Steven Johnson describes how technology is separating society. He also describes how the ones closest to us feel distant (423). The main problem is everyone using social media sites are not who they claim to be on-line.
“Social media, a web-based and mobile technology, has turned communication into a social dialogue, and dominates the younger generation and their culture. As of 2010, Generation Y now outnumbers Baby Boomers, and 96% of Gen Y has joined a social network” (Qualman 1). Social media now accounts for the number one use of the Internet, and this percentage is rising bigger every day (Qualman). As a consequence, people are becoming more reliant on social media, which has a led to a number of advantageous as well as unfavorable effects. The world is more connected today than it has ever been in the past, and this is all because of growth in technology. What has yet to be determined though
This world as we know is heading towards a more virtual era, where everything we need to know is under the palm of our hands. We have many devices such as smart phones, tablets, computers, which gives us access to an infinite amount of information. This virtual life style we are becoming accustomed to introduced us to social media. An increase amount of interaction is being built between known and unknown users from all around the world. Social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, twitter, and even tumbler have become an everyday routine of our daily lives. In this modern society, all these social media websites have brought about a significant amount of impact in many of us. It has really influenced its users on how to conduct their lives.
Social media is a new trend that has turned into an essential need in someone’s life. It’s made for usage of social interaction with others. Social media creates a place for chat rooms, blogging, video sites, and etc. In 2004, the popular social networking site Facebook had almost 1 million users; than in 2011 it has increased to 700 million users worldwide. People use social media as a way to communicate opinions, ideas, and information.
In reality, social media has prevailed throughout society’s development because people are able to communicate on a more global scale. Due to social media, people all around the world are able connect and discuss many topics that range from serious things such as politics to more frivolous things such as what a celebrity wore on the red carpet. Nowadays, everyone has some type of a social media account so that they can talk to whomever, “Smart phones and social media expand our universe. We can connect with others or collect information easier and faster than ever” (Goleman, BrainyQuote).
Did you remember to tell your cousin happy birthday on Facebook? Do you know how many people liked your latest picture on instagram? Or how many retweets did you get on your totally relatable and borderline inspirational tweet? As of January 2014, 74% of online adults use social networking sites (Rainie). Also more than 9 out of 10 American teenagers use social media(Blaszczak). Because of social networking we are becoming more connected than ever before. Important information can spread faster than wildfire, and we now have the ability to have friends and relationships all over the world. With the ability to communicate and interact with anyone at our fingertips what could go wrong? Well...lots of things.
Social Media has evolved magnificently since the first email sent in 1971. Social media is any form of website or application which enables us to share content with one another with a simple sharing tool. Social media has become an addiction for most, if you were to ask the average student if they were connected to a social networking site, about 73 percent would reply with a yes. In addition, about 63 percent of people log on to a social media site daily and on average 40 percent log on multiple times a day. Everyone has their own reasons for the use of social media, which could include shopping, research, or other personal reasons like venting and status updates.
When was the last time you talked to your friends in person, not over text messages, Facebook or Twitter? In order to answer the question you would have to think about it first. It is not secret that social media is something that is controlling our lives everyday. In fact, it is something that comes natural to society to communicate with others through a screen. Whether it is a computer screen or phone screen, this screen is taking over our lives. In fact, according to www.pewinternet.org , “81% of online teens use some kind of social media. As a teenager, I go on Social media everyday, it is something that comes natural to my everyday life. Also, it is an easy way for me to communicate with family and friends. Bizjournals.com states that, “Smartphone users check Facebook 's website 13.8 times a day, on average, and spend a total of half an hour each day on the social network on their phones”. Social media is taking over our everyday lives, without us realizing it. What if social media did not exist, how would people
In many ways the media affect daily life, but can also be a good benefit it as well. Relationships, physical appearance, the way people perceive or judge, are some examples of how the media affect daily life. In the other hand, social media can be useful, for example; searching information of any kind, or when people need to be connected, such as the military, who use social medias to connect with their families when they are abroad. Social media can be productive in the subject, but also a great distraction to learning, and a problem for the development of youth. Time consumption is affected by the media concerned. People now adapted the social media as a method of solution for everything. Social media affect the lifestyles of today, varied in multiple ways. This research will examine the advantages and disadvantages of social networking engagement, and why is important to educate the young about the correct way to use social media and how to properly engage.
I chose to quote Kahleed on this because he successfully pointed out the negative effects that technology and social media have on the way we communicate with each other and that he believes it is causing people to forget how to relate face to face. Specific forms of social media change the way we interact with one another in a multitude of ways. Other benefits come with social media relationships and personal interactions as social media is used as an advantage to make it less complex to find your old friends and also discover new people to network with or introduce you to new matches. Starting with Facebook, I know a lot of users usually use this social network to stay connected with family and friends.
In recent years, social networking sites have rapidly gained popularity among people at all ages. A large number of people have registered and become members of some social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Wechat. Also, people spend a lot of time on these sites chatting, playing games, and making friends. Social networking sites have become a part of people’s life. However, what accounts for the popularity of these sites? As far as I’m concerned, this phenomenon, which social networking sites are very popular nowadays, is caused by three important reasons.
Nowadays, social media is growing very rapidly throughout the whole world. Social media has changed the way that we communicate with others through using these common social networking sites like Face book, Twitter, and Instagram…For that, social media has positively and negatively impacted our life.
One of the main reasons why social media has positively affected our society is because of how it has made communicating with people much easier. “Today, four out of five active internet users maintain at least one social media profile” (Moe, 3). Using these websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and etc., people talk about everything with anyone from what they are planning to do, also what they are eating and much more (Moe, 24). Also we can also send private messages to other users of these websites about personal m...
Social networking has been around a little over a decade. Social networks create connections between people through the use of the Internet. In 2003, LinkedIn and MySpace became the first social networks to achieve major success. LinkedIn was primarily focused on connecting business people, and MySpace was focused on connecting people in English-speaking countries. Mark Zuckerburg created Facebook on the campus of Harvard University in 2004. Ease of use and numerous
The world as we once knew it is changing. Some may debate on whether this progress is for the better or worse. The evolution of communication has taken flight and social media is the first passenger boarding its plane. With the development of social media networks such as Facebook and others, staying connected to the outside world from your home, office or car is more accessible now than ever. These methods of communication have simply become “the norm” and is widely accepted around the nation. We as people, whether openly admitting or not, fail to realize that in order to stay relevant in some field or aspect the only resort is to grow with the times of communication. Why? The world has begun to center their lives around social connections. These social platforms have become our entertainment, life counselors and showcases for our futures. Sadly, the past has become just that… the past. With such social powerhouses on the steady rise, lives of others will no longer be mysteries. Access to school information, events, company gatherings or family trips will always provide some sort of insight to the public eye.
