Therefore, knowing the material involved enables responders to know the risks associated with the material such as if it is flammable, toxic, corrosive, or reactive with other materials. This ensures that responders have the proper personal protective equipment to prevent injury when responding. Identifying Five Unknown Chemicals I was given 5 unknown samples, which are sodium chloride, sodium thiosulfate, calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and sodium nitrate and these samples are all white and solid. However, I don’t know which substance is which sample and I was only given some information about the physical and chemical properties of these substances. In order to identify the 5 unknown samples, knowing which sample is which substance, I have to carry out this experiment, finding out the chemical and physical properties of these samples. How can we identify five unknown chemical samples that seem to look the same?
Knowing the history of chemical weapons and their devastating effects will help explain the reasoning for the development of weapons inspection team and why their success is vital to world peace. This paper will provide a small amount of history on chemical weapons, discuss the history of the weapons inspection teams and explain how the members are selected and trained. Incidents of the use of weapons of mass destruction will be mentioned which explain the reason for the development of the weapons inspection teams.
I was a member of a hazardous material responder team, which was responsible for responding to spills of hazardous or unknown materials. This necessitated determining whether the material was hazardous, and if it was, then we were tasked with cleanup and disposal of the material in a way that was safe and in accordance to proper procedure. Procedures were driven by the organization, but had to either meet or exceed state regulations for hazardous material cleanup and disposal. This included very well-defined, strict rules and plans for collecting and disposing of hazardous material. Through social identification, individuals identify characteristics of a group as similar themselves and as enhancing their status or power (Latham, 2012). I found this to be true in my experience, and identified more readily to characteristics of the group that that were similar to myself, such as conscientiousness and attention to detail.

The collapse of the World Trade Center caused a toxic dust cloud that covered parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Several of these toxins can cause alterations in the cell that may eventually cause lung cancer including the toxins explained in this paper. Each of these three chemicals are known to cause lung cancer through aerosol exposure. The concentration of the chemicals and the length of the exposure of these chemicals affect the risk of being diagnosed with lung cancer. The purpose of this lab was to analyse how light and color is created inside an atom in order to deduce what an unknown chemical compound was. We did two different experiments in order to examine how light is created and changed. In one, we looked at how chemical compounds affected a flame’s color, and to determine what the unknown salt contains. In the other lab, we looked at how atoms create light, and how it is displayed on the elements individual spectral line.

Theophrastus Bomabastus Von Hoheneheim (Paracelsus) said “sola dosis facet venenum,” translated as, “all things are poisonous and nothing is without poison.” (Wink & Wyk, 2008) For people living in the Great Lakes regions of Northern Michigan, it often feels the opposite, “in everything there is medicine and nothing is without medicine.” Undoubtedly, some plants can externally or internally irritate the body affecting homeostasis, including instances of photo-sensitization and allergies; but generally these symptoms are not life threatening. According to herbalists and toxicologists, it is important to “distinguish between poisons that can kill in minute amounts, toxins that are less toxic than poisons, and toxicants that are toxic in high concentrations only.” (Wink & Wyk, 2008).

The beginning of the CFC(chlorofluorocarbons) era started in 1928, when CFC' were invented by a Du Pont chemist. CFC' were best known as "freons" and became famous as a safe, nonflammable refrigerant. It's invention became a great triumph when Freon took the place of sulfur dioxide or ammonia which was used as the working liquid in refrigerators. It eventually became widely used in automobile air conditioners and nontoxic propellants in aerosol cans. It's insulating properties also was used for blowing agents for plastics and foam cups.

The development of food processing technology has indeed expanded the potential of food supplies greatly in the modern era.
Environmental hazards arise as well from hazardous materials and waste. Hazardous materials concerns could arise from spills of gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, or solvents from containers or vehicles. Spills could contaminate soils or leach into ground or surface water. And environmental hazards could adversely affect humans, wild life, vegetation and water supply.

These hazards in a work place need to be identified and dealt with accordingly to prevent any harm to employees or any individual acquainted to a certain activity or establishment.
