I. In our country today, there are many social problems as well as conditions that affect the well-being of the citizens that reside within it. Social problems and conditions have a cause and effect relationship where the conditions contribute to the overall issues that eventually become modern social problems. A few social conditions that need to be pointed out are none other than the gender wage gap, the ‘glass ceiling’, and objectification based solely on appearance. These social conditions are tied to the social problem known as gender inequality in the workplace. Here in the U.S., gender inequality in the workplace affects many of the working-class citizens that have intentions to fully prosper economically.

One of the many advocacy groups for women that focuses mainly on this topic is none other than the National Organization for Women or (NOW), they are primarily very dedicated to its multi-issue & multi-strategy approach to women’s rights. NOW’s stated goals include the promotion of feminist ideals, the leading of societal change, discrimination elimination, and to achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of political, social and economic life. NOW achieves its goals through grassroots political organizing, as well as national action campaigns. The cause-effect relationship between this social problem and a couple of social conditions is very obvious to see. Although there are many social conditions that have some impact on & associate with the dependent variable in this context, a few stick out above the rest. These are known as the independent variables of the social problem and they are the gender pay gap, the ‘glass ceiling’ of the workplace, and the objectification of women in the labor force. Gender inequality in the workplace is directly related to the three stated independent variables. The pay gap has heavy amounts of evidence behind it as women have always made less than men throughout history even up this day… the ‘glass ceiling’ of major companies essentially keeps women at a certain level as an employee, leaving no room for major growth and expansion into the higher/managerial ranks of the workplace.
