My Work Experience
My work experience took place at Forbidden Planet, in the town centre,
I didn’t have any worries about going there but I would rather have
worked in a different ship only because Forbidden Planet sells items
which don’t quite interest me such as; Star Wars, Buffy, Pokemon and
also Yughio. I did try to get a self-placement however many shops
didn’t participate in work experience or they would require me to get
a placement through the school. There were many shops where I would
have liked to work, but for the shops own reasons they didn’t allow
work experience. I am interested in becoming a security guard however
I wouldn’t think that there would be any work experience for that
category. I am not completely sure about what I would like to do when
I am older but there are many things I may consider such as becoming a
jeweller, a forensic investigator or something in the category of
security.
The first day of the week was Monday, id expect myself to have felt
nervous however I wasn’t, and the people I employees made me feel
welcome when I had an interview and didn’t look like they had a bad
side to them selves. I took the bus to and from town everyday, which
was fine although I had to get up earlier as bus journeys in the
morning are fairly long due to other people like me travelling to
work. My dress code stated that I dressed in a ‘smart and casual’
manner, this lead to me wearing a t-shirt, jeans and trainers. There
wasn’t any strict rules on dress requirements, which I thought was
fairly good, they provided me a t-shit for me , as it showed I
belonged to their company. I would have preferred to have a badge
stating that I was on work experience so that customers would know and
wouldn’t expect too much from me.
The company itself specialises in rare figures and comics, as well as
this they sell console games for Playstation 2 , X-BOX and Gamecube,
I began by tutoring at the Boys and Girls Club (BGC) and eventually became a teacher at the boys and girls club. The focus of my continued volunteer work was to enrich the children’s after school experience whether they needed help with homework or busy work. During my volunteer work the issue that stuck out in my mid continuously was social class or classism. The BGC emphasizes many different issues and points such as “creating aspirations for the future,” “Helping youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process is the main thrust of these programs and also to develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making.” BGC encourages kids to engage in healthy and positive behavior as well as to help the youth build and discover creativity in the arts “Club programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills.” (bgca.org)

I am from the island of Falalop Woleai which is one the outer islands of Yap State. The culture I was born and raised in has slightly changed over the years but our traditions are strongly practiced and respected. Woleaians today still wears traditional attire of loin cloths or “thus” for men and lava lavas for women.
Work Experience: What I learned from working is that I am always told what to do. I am always order to do something. I did not enjoy that experience that is why I left.
My grandfather was a police officer when he was younger; he would tell us stories of he and his buddies on motorcycle patrol and the life of a cop. The stories that he told were so interesting, that ever since, I wanted to have a career in law enforcement. After I graduated from high school, I enrolled in the law enforcement program at Spokane Community College where I planned to fulfill my dream of becoming a cop. I started the law enforcement classes at the college and came to the conclusion that law enforcement was not the career for me.
I was sixteen years old. I was in high school. I already was working full time after school and on weekends at Dunkin Donuts. I decided that I wanted to take on another job. I applied at a local grocery store named Better Value. Better Value was a small chain of grocery stores located throughout the surrounding towns that I grew up in.
Before the internship, I thought judges were of course humans, but I was hoping they were nice. I thought it was going to be a bit intimidating, but I knew I looked up and aspired their profession. It was like the day I was going to meet my judge I was so nervous, yet I looked forward to it. I remember I was surprised different Judges would run their courtrooms differently. I thought they would kind of have a similar system for things, which they sort of do, but not completely. Generally speaking, the Judges are great individuals and are very unique. Most of the Judges have lived pretty interesting lives and seem to enjoy their jobs. The Judges seem to be very knowledgeable, and very considerate of the Jury, court reporters, and their clerks. The judges of course seem neutral when in front of the jury as expected. For example, Judge Lippitt, does not allow anytime to speak over each other in her court room she is always saying that they have to be respectful there is a human being recording this, referring to the court reporter. Then, she is very considerate of the Jury and their time, she will tell them the trial is longer at times to make them happy if it ends early. Further, Judge Lippitt really cares about the jury instructions and that they are as neutral as possible. Something I have learned from Judge Lippitt, is that you have to be very careful as a judge to notice when attorney’s are acting a little suspicious. Another very significant lesson I have learned from Judge Lippitt is that preparedness and awareness is really important.

In education 2130, we are ask to volunteer our time and do field experience that in return would give back to the community. I choose to do my field experience at Lula Elementary School in Hall County. During my time there I got to observe and watch teachers teach, how they handle children’s behavior and also their classroom management. In the paper I am going to discuss my field experience and what I learned in my time spent in a classroom. I am also going to try and make connections to educational psychology and what I learned in my education class. Also I am going to reflect on my emotional and professional reactions.
The Value of Work Experience A summer or part-time job pays more than money. Even though the money earned is important, the work experience gained has a greater long-term value when one applies for a full-time job after graduation from school. Job application documents (the application blank and the personal data sheet) ask you to list jobs you have held and to list as references the names of individuals who supervised your work. College is a collection of diverse people, new experiences, and learning how to be an adult. While it is completely different from anything I have ever done before, I feel like I have adjusted well and am getting into the swing of being a college student. The transition from high school to college is difficult and I have faced some challenges including, learning good study habits and accepting who I am as a student, time management skills and putting myself into new situations where I can meet new people. While these have been difficult for me to encounter, they have taught me valuable lessons about myself and who I can and want to be.

Coming fresh out of high school straight into college is very exhausting. The first semester in college is without doubt, the toughest because freshmen’s must get situated by themselves. Overall, this semester was all about making mistakes. In these four months, I have learned about the mistakes I performed during this semester. Yet, something that was difficult for me grasp throughout this first semester is that college is unlike high school. Nobody is going to “grab your hand” throughout this journey. In college, everything must be done by ourselves or else we aren’t advancing. In high school, teachers, mentors, coaches etc. accommodated students so much that students are used to teachers doing everything for them. This was one of my difficulties in my first semester in college. I had everything handed to me in high school without moving a finger and now coming into college many things have completely changed.
During my time as a student I have been able to develop the way I learn and interact with others to a degree that has also helped me to mature into a better person. I have come to believe that this maturity will help me to develop into a better thinker as well, one that has the patience to listen and take consideration of what others have to say. I consider the act of learning a two way avenue that has to be taken seriously. It is one that involves the teacher, and the protégé. It has been, and will continue to be, my absolute goal as a student to become a diligent protégé and acquire all of learning my teachers have set in front of me. The way each of them have helped me to think about how my actions, and the way I choose to study my lessons and develop as a student, has made a tremendous impact on my life. This impact is one that I will carry into the future as I myself advance in my professional studies.
I have a great experience with my mentor this semester. My mentor is Dr. John Hoeschen, he owns this own independent pharmacy in St Paul, that is the St. Paul Corner Drug. This drug store has a long history; it is started since 1922. Due to my lack understanding of America’s pharmacy system, he introduced that the basic structure of American pharmacy is divided into community pharmacy and hospital pharmacy, in community pharmacy, two kinds of pharmacy exist, retailed pharmacy and independent pharmacy. St Paul Corner Drug is one of the independent pharmacy, their goal is to build good relationship with patients in the community, talk and listen to patients about their concerns and worries, give them the suggestions. These are very different compared to retailed pharmacy, whose goal is to make profits for companies. I love the independent pharmacy setting. I think I am talented at talking to people and I enjoy sharing stories with them. Sometimes I can just smile and give them comfort.
