I am from the island of Falalop Woleai which is one the outer islands of Yap State. The culture I was born and raised in has slightly changed over the years but our traditions are strongly practiced and respected. Woleaians today still wears traditional attire of loin cloths or “thus” for men and lava lavas for women. I graduated eight grade from Falalop Woleai Community School (FWCS) in 2002 and attended Neighboring Island Central High School (NICHS) and graduated in year 2006. Fall of 2006 I enrolled at the College of Micronesia FSM National Campus on Pohnpei. Summer of 2008 I graduated from COM-FSM with an Associate of Art Degree in Health Career Opportunity Program. I am headstrong in finishing my goal to pursue my education. These circumstances are the reason I started Nursing and going to continue Nursing.Getting an education was very important to me back in 1987 and it still important to me today! I started the week off at Ortho Colorado. I cleaned beds and rooms and helped put patients' charts together. The next day was breast center. I gave patients paperwork to fill out and checked patients in. I also took the mammogram patients to get changed and gave patients' charts to the techs. Wednesday and Saturday I was in PACU and I helped the nurses with anything that they needed. I admited patients into the computer and restocked bays. I also got the patients ice chips and ice packs.

I, Hope Turnbull, am a Senior of Stockton High School in Stockton Kansas. My plans consist of attending North Central Kansas Technical College starting Fall 2016, where I want to begin my study of nursing. Due to me having all of my general education courses finished upon my college arrival, I have been accepted into the first year Nursing Program (LPN). I believe that I deserve this scholarship due to me excelling in my education at a very young age. My grades are earned as A’s and B’s in school.
For my externship I worked at Heshima, a center takeing care of physically and mentally challenged children, for 20 hours. The highlights of my experience were; successfully getting into the organization blindly, being able to work alongside the Heshima employees and watching Nelly, the headmistress’s way of doing things. She, being the head of the school used a method of leadership I had not seen before.
Those duties included coordinating train operators, bus drivers, and other essential project personnel. That afforded me the opportunity to develop my interpersonal skills, to work and make decisions at a fast pace, as well as giving me experience working with a team of my peers and various other age groups. I was able to divide work up amongst the group/groups to maximize our time together and promote collaboration. I learned when to lead, and when to let others more equipped to lead, and when to follow an order to make the session most productive for the entire group. This past year I work as a R.I.S.E. Advisor through the school, where I helped the coordinator of the program update and manage the database of High School seniors we worked with, tracking their progress throughout the year. Also, personally helping students fill out applications to colleges, helping them navigate the FAFSA website, and even develop resumes, just to name a

Returning to school was a direct continuation of my bachelor degree, however, I did take two years off. My main reason for returning to school is so that I can advance my nursing career. I also have a strong passion for learning and nursing was the obvious choice as there is still so much for me to learn. I plan on getting my master degree with Capella University and then moving forth to get my doctoral degree in family practice. My ultimate goal professionally is to become a nurse practitioner. As a Hmong American, I understand both the views in Eastern and Western medicine and believe that I would be able to provide care appropriately for the Hmong community. Additionally, having seen the cultural barriers in the health care industry not
I became an official ambassador for the youth volunteer program. I worked with the WTA to introduce other students to the program and coordinated trailwork parties in my community forestlands. During my senior year of high school I acted as president of the Green Club, our school’s environmentally focused organization. As president, I worked with the members of the club, the community, and faculty to organize a rain-garden installation in our town. The project took a long time and a lot of footwork, but was finished due to the hard work of everyone

I spent my Summer working at the lake. Sounds like a blast right? WRONG! I worked, like a slave, at the Marina pumping gas, cleaning boats, and serving customers with a smile...sometimes.
The summer of 2014 was very exciting. I just landed my first job working on a farm. As I drove my moped down the road the very next day I had chills running down my back thinking to myself, “What is the worst possible outcome?” As I pulled into the driveway I heard all of the cows out on their pasture fields, heavy machinery humming, and the grain bins spinning. I went up to my boss and he gave me some duties that had to be fulfilled. After completing those tasks he told me to hop into their skid loader. He showed me how to operate the machine. I was nervous, excited, but at the same time stressed out because I have never operated any heavy machinery once in my life. My boss said, “Don’t worry it’s really easy to use.” After I was comfortable
