It seems like you have to make the most out of your summer before it’s over. I had a lot of fun this summer and learned about our country. I got to visit our nation’s capital, had ear surgery, and worked this summer.
I went to Washington D.C. for an event called WLC. (Washington Leadership Conference) I was on a bus ride which took 25 hours, from Sioux Falls, SD to Washington D.C. I was in D.C. I was in Washington for a week along with about 300 other kids from all over the United States. We visited the monuments and packaged over 60,000 meals for people who don’t have enough food to eat. We were put into small groups, my group was the executives, and got to learn how to be a leader in our communities. My trip to Washington is definitely one I will remember, because of the awesome people I met.

I was born with bad hearing in my left ear because two bones weren’t connected. I had a titanium artificial bone placed in my ear so that it would connect sound to my brain. The surgery was about an hour, and I had to wear a cotton headband over my ear for two days. I wasn’t allowed to get water in my ear so I couldn’t go swimming this summer. Surgery also made it so I couldn’t play baseball, and missed a month of football/acceleration. Hopefully my hearing gets better so I can hear better.
What I did for work. I worked for Tom Mathis this summer driving around his kids. I took them to the pool, and picked them up from practices. I got paid 100$ a week for helping with Tom’s kids. It was a fun job, but I would like to do something different next summer.
As you can see my summer consisted of going on vacation, having surgery, and working. I had some down time, but not much, it always seemed like I was doing something. I hope you had a great summer full of great
have fun during the summer by skipping class and going to the beach. Finny also
During the Washington D.C. trip I got to learn so much about the foundation of America. I also developed a greater understanding of the history behind America and how it started. Liberty, Hope, Acceptance, Recognition, Bravery, Courage, Honor, Independence, and Integrity are all words that can describe what is so great about America. The words that describe the meaning of America to me is acceptance, freedom, and honor.
Washington Square Park is home to thousands of New York University Students, families leisurely strolling through the park on afternoons, people cooling off at the fountain during the summer, couples lounging on the green grass, and even home to the New York City Pillow Fight held during the summer. At the center of Greenwich Village, it provides an escape from the busy traffic and city surrounding it. Most importantly, it is home to the Washington Square Arch.
idea of how to enjoy a summer vacation. But I decided to perservere, hoping to
Washington D.C: Our Nation’s Capital Although the entire world is familiar with the City of Washington as the United State’s capital, the city was nonexistent when we became a nation in 1789. Thanks to the brilliant design of the French born engineer, Pierre Charles L’Enfant and his assistants Benjamin Banneker and Andrew Ellicot, our capital city that was once a swamp now is beautiful with many different parks, gardens trees, tall buildings and wide avenues. Washington, District of Columbia named after Christopher Columbus, has played a unique role in the wars of our nation and has been dramatically affected by their awesome events.
George Washington was born February 22, 1732 to Augustine Washington and Mary Ball Washington. He had six siblings, three of which who died early. His older brother Lawrence died of tuberculosis, allowing George to inherit his position of adjutant general of the Virginian militia. George Washington was eager to prove himself, and was sent to aid the British forces throughout the French and Indian war. Though captured by the French in the conflict, he was allowed to leave and return to his troops.
It is something that I began dealing with in the last two years while in school and it has had a strong effect on me. Unfortunately, my reaction was to ignore this problem and persist through my studies. I am no longer ignoring my hearing damage. I am now consulting with an ENT/audiologist and working with FAU accessibility office. I have also recently learned that there is an audiologist on the FAU campus and I'm looking forward to meeting with them.
Bob came home from school one day. When Bob walked inside, his mom Rachel asked him how his day was and he said that it was the best day yet. So they talked for awhile and his mom asked him what he feels is better, moving to a place where his grandma lives and to a new school, or staying here where he gets bullied and has a lakefront property. Rachel said he can think about it for only a few days. So a couple of days passed and Bob finally had made his decision, he walked up to his mom and said “I want to move to Washington”. Rachel said okay I will tell your father, Stewart and see what he thinks and then I will tell you what the plan is. Rachel said to Bob start packing so we don’t have to stay any longer than five days. Bob said he was done
Lieutenant Colonel Clifford Layton was very diminutive, all of five feet one inches, barely making the Army’s cut off for size. He was skinny and wore glasses, since he was nearsighted. He was an Army reservist in the Quartermaster Corps. His civilian job was a used car salesman. He wasn’t the greatest at his job, but he was able to make a living at it. He relished his job in the reserves and wished he could have gone full time, but his size was always an obstacle, so he found it difficult for any command to readily accept him. He was also a true blue supporter of Colonel Magnus, verging on hero worship.
Just this year for spring break I got the chance to go to Florida with my one of my good friends again just like last year. It was a lot more memorable this year only because we actually did things as in go places I haven’t been to or got to do. I also got to go visit my grandma and grandpa while I was down in Florida. My grandma and grandpa planned things for us to do which was pretty fun and cool. My grandma set up an airboat ride for me and I have never been on one of those before and I got the chance to, I was pretty darn excited to go on the airboat. I saw ten foot gator which was pretty cool, I enjoyed it very much. When I was also in Florida we went to Disney Universal Citywalk to go to this theater to see the Blue Men Group, now that
I was standing in the top of the Washington Monument in Washington D.C., with about ten other people. It was a beautiful summer morning, seventy-five degrees with a slight breeze, at 8 ; 45 am. I could see for miles, and there was not a cloud in the sky. I could see the tourists strolling through the streets, enjoying the many wonders to be seen. I thought today was going to be a wonderful, relaxing day, but it all changed when it happened. There was a flash, like never seen before, and the strangest ringing. Everything went silent. I looked to my left, and what I saw left a lasting image in my mind, one that would last a lifetime.
I volunteered for Feed My Starving Children, an organizations that provides food for children in countries that are going through poverty and famine. My job was to help package the food. While volunteering, I met some new people who played an important role in the organization. I learned hunger is a big problem that affects many children, families, and communities. I feel like my action was valuable to the community as I helped provide food for families. This service project has opened my eyes to issues that are happening around the world and how many communities need help. After volunteering, I began to be encouraged to be more actively engaged in the community.
This spring break was really enjoyable and adventurous. For example, my family and I headed over to Houston, Texas and spent all of our week over there. We drove off Saturday morning with a truck full of blankets and snacks. Time had never passed by as slow as that day ,yet my Red Hot Chilli Peppers playlist made it better. We finally arrived and I had never imagined the amount of activities there is to do in the city. As a result, we explored all throughout Houston. There was never a tedious moment.
Then, when I was three years old, I had surgery to get a cochlear implant at the University of Minnesota. A cochlear implant is a small device which bypasses the damaged parts of the ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve. Signals generated by the implant are sent by the auditory nerve to the brain, which recognizes t...
“Well, if we live in a world where the government could tell us what we can and cannot print, then The Washington Post as we know it has already ceased to exist.” Tom Hanks as the character of Ben Bradlee states in the 2018 film The Post. He was conveying the belief that if the government won the court case, The Washington Post would no longer exist. The film, The Post, directed by Steven Spielberg, is an entertaining, yet effective way of learning the now quiet topic of rebelling in order to save the freedom of the press. It shows how Americans defended the First Amendment during the Vietnam war through the publishment of stolen government documents known as the Pentagon Papers.
