I began my project relatively late in my senior year, much to the sorrow of my mentor and advisor. Nevertheless, the point of our senior project is to showcase what we plan to do or study after high school. Ever since I was little, I always wanted to become an engineer; so for my senior project, I decided to build a 3D printer. I chose to build a 3D printer because I believe that it was a great way to demonstrate what I would be doing as a Mechanical Engineer. My mentor was actually the one that suggested to me that I should build a printer in the first place. Mrs. Garski was my Principles of Engineering teacher and she saw that I was struggling to decide what I should build for my Senior Project. Combined with the fact that it was her who gave me the idea in the …show more content…
I presented my plan and parts spreadsheet to Mr. Malley and explained how the printer could be used for educational purposes to any of the STEM-related classes that we have at my school. I wanted my project to have the ability to inspire a student to pursue a career in the STEM field like I was inspired to do by the STEM classes at Meridian High School. After Malley approved my project funding, and the parts were delivered, it took approximately 30 hours to completely build the printer. The most difficult part of the build process was definitely the wiring; it not only took the longest, but I also had to redo the complete circuit board three times before I finally got everything connected and working properly. After testing to make sure that the z,x, and y-axis were all working and moving accurately, I tested the heating on the hot bed and extruder to find that both were not working at all. Following close inspection, and some help for the computer technician at the school, I discovered that the thermistor connects to the extruder had broken. I am now waiting on a replacement part from the company, it should arrive any day
Senior Project Senior Project Outline Introduction: Let the reader know what this Essay is about. I. What I already know A.
The career I am currently pursuing is Dental Hygiene. I chose this career in senior year of high school. My algebra teacher inspired me to choose this career path. I always visited with her after class, for she was my favorite teacher and I learned a great deal from her. One day while visiting her, she spoke about her husband and her two dogs. Her husband was a dental hygienist, and she recommended me to explore further into that career if I could not think of one myself by the completion of senior year. I eventually did consider it, but I decided to become a dentist instead because of the pay. I told her about my decision and she supported me, but was not pleased by my decision since dentistry was prone to take over lots of my life. The pay seemed certainly excellent but I did not know if it was actually worth my time. After learning how complex dentistry was likely to be, I settled for becoming a dentist hygienist.
As a species, humanity, henceforth, people, will never go out of business, but as individuals and specified groups, people can and will fail, because people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan. In the modern society, it has become mandatory that all high school seniors are required to complete and present a “Senior Project,” to show the world that they can be taken seriously. Covering these points will include: what the project is, examples of different advocators of the project, and the different viewpoints of why it is useful verses why it is not.
“Education is not the preparation for life; education is life itself.” - John Dewey. Every year, as we enter a new grade, new challenges approach us. Eighth grade is no exception., and will be very different from 7th grade. As I enter my eighth grade school year, I will be bombarded with a variety of new experiences and challenges such as buddies, academics, and being prepared for high school. One of the most important tasks that is thrust onto me is buddies.
In my first semester, I took English IV and dedicated all of my extra time to completing my graduation project. The project was a huge part of my grade for English, and if I did not meet the requirements for it, I would not have graduated. It was required that I write a research paper, create a product, record my progress in a portfolio, and present it all at the end of the semester. It was also required that I complete the project with a mentor. At the time, I was not sure what my career goals were, but I was interested in pediatrics and decided that it should be my topic in order to learn more about the
When I was planning my senior project I knew I wanted to make something I could keep and use for myself but I wasn’t quite sure who would be my mentor. Then I thought it would be special to do something like this with my grandpa who is now 84 years old and has 40+ years of experience with construction. He even built his home that he and my grandmother are living in today, in 1954. My grandpa started making canes for himself, to donate and just for fun and I thought it will be cool to make myself a cane and customize it with designs. Before starting my project, I had no previous knowledge of working with wood or heavy machinery. The only time I worked with wood was hammering a nail into a wooden wall. Now after I have completed my project, I know how to stain and varnish wood, use a table saw, stationary sander, wood burner and a drill press machine.
I had a plethora of ideas on what I pictured myself on doing my project on. One of my many ideas was on auto-customization. I enjoy learning about cars and their different attributes. I was interested in learning how to upgrade a cars performance and power. I was interested in learning how to change the interior parts of a car. I also thought of doing it on becoming a disc jockey (D.J.). This topic intrigued me because of my passion for music. I listen to diverse types of music from Rock to R&B. In the end I did not end up doing it on any of these topics, due to the fact that I could not picture myself working this fields for a long time. I decided to do my senior on Business Management.
On my first day of 6th grade, it was fun, but I was very nervous about the lockers and going to all of my classes by myself. On the other hand, 6th grade was very fun and was a good time with lots of my friends.
To start it all off, high school is not awful. More specifically, grade twelve isn’t a complete disaster. It is just a given that we will wake up every morning and go to school for six hours. Of course, there really is no challenge in that; it’s just one fourth of our day. It’s been the routine for the past 12 years. We just have to be there, do some work, and then go home. Achieving grades that our parents can comprise with is genuinely that easy. It’s simple. Of course, there are some of us that want to venture a bit further than that. They’re the ones that want to be a part of the extra-curriculars, and put some meaning to their four years. Whether that’s joining a club or a sports team, it’s simply something to say they participated in
One situation in my life made me realize that doing things for my own personal gain is not always the right thing to do. In seventh grade I started thinking about other people with a less selfish outlook on life. This particular situation helped me understand the importance of doing the right thing and following the golden rule, treat others how you would want to be treated. I now live my life according to my own definition of integrity, do the right thing no matter the circumstances and understand a situation from someone else’s point of view.
My knowledge of not only myself but of my friends and others has greatly increased due to the past marking period projects. As I reflect, I believe I learned the most about myself as well as my friends during the first marking period project with comparing my culture to someone else. For that project I chose one of my best friends from Ireland as a way to understand her culture more. The cultural information I learned from my friends allowed me to open my eyes to actions and traditions I never knew about her before. For example, when I asked a question about Gaeilge, the Irish language, her passion and emphasizes on the importance of the language and the wide-spread belief that Irish is the cultural foundation of Ireland shocked me. I never seized the opportunity to learn and understand the language; her information about the language further enlarged my regret.
At the start of the school year I wanted to do something that would involve a multitude of different things, from woodwork to metalwork to finishing (the wood, be it paint, stain, clear lacquer, ect.) However I waited too long to get started building the trailer whale I was in limbo from the school as to what all I needed to have done before I started my project, so my plans had to shift to something more achievable or smaller. At this point I was about at the midpoint of my senior year and I needed to start working on my passion project. After more hard thinking it hit me, right in the middle of my taring my room apart looking for stupid ruler that I knew was somewhere in my room I just didn’t know where.
After a few weeks of dwelling over the rejections, I decided to carry out the project myself. My idea to carry out the project alone was met with skepticism from many people. Friends called me mad, teachers called my idea a waste of time. My parents did not encourage this idea. But I stuck to my decision.
My Education plans started ever since I was a third grader. One day after a sunny afternoon, I went home and found my dad had been remodeling the living room, right away I went downstairs to put on my work boots and asked my dad if he needed help. My dad always liked it when I would help him so right away, he would have a big grin and his eyes shined so bright, I knew he was ecstatic to have his son give him a hand and with no hesitation he would always say yes. The first thing he would make me do is hold the tape measure. We would measure many studs and then cut them. As I worked I noticed I really enjoyed rebuilding models we destroyed. At the end of the day I
It has taken a very long time for me to decide on the path that I wanted to take for my career. I have almost always known that I wanted to be an engineer. I was always more interested in applying my knowledge to solve problems rather than just research and understand the world. However, I had little to no inkling as to which field of engineering I wanted to go in to. I had always been a dabbler, involving myself in a large variety of activities with the interest of learning about how stuff works. I started out learning how to use the tools in the shed outback, making pinewood derby cars and model rockets. I would help my dad with home improvement and repair projects around the house. As time went on, my ability learns and apply
