Reflecting on this week was challenging. Scary as well, mostly because I didn't know where to
begin. You may ask "why", I'm glad you asked. I've been out of school since the ninth grade, no
high school experience. Here I am jumping right into college classes like I have enough
experience to complete the task.
Enough about my nervous rant. Now let me give you the reason behind my transition. Jose Baca
made me feel at ease about Colorado Christian University. He reassured me time and time again.
Also after every phone call he would ask "is there anything I can pray for you". He was unaware
of the confidence he was building in me. I think the rest of the team picked up right where he left
off, from the financial aid department

That in itself is my reason from being nervous to
transitioning to confidence. So I humbly say thank you to all that had a role in my
transformation.
Things that I would do differently would be to get a head start on all of my assignments, I know
CCU has student advisors to help, but I think a local tutor would help tremendously until I'm
able to get used to the cycle of college and how to operate on my own. Participate more in
discussions to interact with my classmates. it's possible that some of the things I'm searching for
might be hidden in my classmates. Communicate better, sooner than later.
I learned somewhat how to use Microsoft Word. I never knew how to set-up or operate at this
level. Still learning in the process as I go along, this is my first attempt in typing a letter in this
system. This presents a challenge to me knowing that this won't be my last paper. I can approach
it with more confidence my next time around knowing that I'll have help to guide me along the
way on my next assignment.
My journey with Christ is the experience I'll use in describing my motivation in academic work
and goals at
Picture this. You are heading off to college to begin the next chapter of your life. It is a moment you have always been waiting for. You are past the high school drama, and are ready to start taking classes that will allow you to obtain a degree in something you have always been passionate about. It’s your first week on campus and you are invited to a party being hosted by a group of upper classman. You show up to the party and immediately are handed a red cup with what you know is something you shouldn’t be drinking. You take a sip anyway and soon start talking to that guy in the corner who at first seems friendly, but soon begins to take advantage of you. Just like that everything changes. This is a situation millions of people face every
When I first came to college, I did not have a solid idea of what the experience would be like, but I was excited for this new chapter in my life. I enrolled in courses I though I would excel in but a couple of weeks into the quarter, I felt unprepared for the fast-paced courses that I seemed to be struggling in but that my peers seem to of been excelling in. Early on this cause me some hardships suddenly I did not feel that I was as smart or accomplished as they were. As a result of this my grades in my courses suffered early on. As time progressed, I became friends with a group of people who were also in my similar situation, they were first-generation college students, students, this great support network of students allowed me to gain more confidence in my academic ability and with the help of my lab work, I began to see that I could excel in college.
Anxiety ran throughout my entire body the morning before my first class of college began. Not knowing what to expect of my professors, classmates, and campus scared me to death. I knew the comparison to senior year of high school and freshman year of college would be minute, but never did it occur to me how much more effort was need in college until that morning, of course. Effort wasn’t just needed inside of the classroom with homework and studying but also outside of it where we are encouraged to join clubs, get involved and find a job. Had I known the transformation would be so great, I’d have mentally prepared myself properly. It’s easy playing “grown-up” in high school when one doesn’t have to pay expensive tuitions, workout a
For the past few decades, receiving a college education has been a stressed importance in today’s society. However it is often misunderstood that attending a 4-year school is the best and only way to go. Following this belief, many students attend these schools with out being academically, financially, or mentally prepared. Unfortunately students like this have failed to over look the more realistic options available to them, such as community college. Junior college is a resource available to anyone regardless of his or her previous academic performance. The variety of courses and the inexpensive tuition gives students flexibility to explore the many options presented to them. Though Universities hold more prestige, community colleges provide endless opportunities for students who aren’t fully prepared for a 4-year education
I was shy because I didn’t know anybody. Now I’ve gotten to know the people in my classes, and I’ve learned that they can help me just as I can help them. Because I was homeschooled, I was a little laid back on when to turn in assignments, I just turned them in when I felt like it. At college, I have changed the way I turn in assignments. I have learned that if I turn in my assignments early or on time I have a better chance of getting a higher grade. I have also changed in the way I manage my time, before I started college I would just get out of bed whenever I felt like it. Now I set alarms and different times on when I need to get something
While I wish finding my way around the school was my only problem, I was faced with some internal challenges. As the school year started, my friends slowly started to leave to these “big shot” colleges or simply move away to other community colleges. I, too, wanted the complete “college experience” somewhere in Arizona or across the country; yet I felt stuck and unaccomplished. I also felt jealousy which could have been because I did not get to decorate my dorm room. While talking about dedicating hard work to your education, Gina Rodriguez said “Just remember, during those times of fear and doubt, that you are right now discovering your true strength.” And in those times of doubt, I reminded myself why I could not just move and leave everything behind. The root of my challenges and concerns are my family. As I enrolled as a full time student, my family was fighting some financial problems which created marriage troubles for my parents. I could not leave at a time like this. I knew it was not the first time my parents were talking divorce but somehow I knew it was best to stay. I got financial aid from the school which saved me the fuss of asking my parents for money. It really meant so much to not put another worry on their
Before starting the Fall 2016 semester, I wasn’t sure about what I had wanted to do with my life, unsure of where I would start and most of all how I would to the point I wanted to be in a couple of years. And finally from a whole month of contemplating, I decided to go to a Community College.
This time I moved to Warren, Michigan and I attended my last year of elementary school with brand new people. The process of getting to know people took me a long time. I became the shy student that did not take part in any school activity again because I was afraid I would be judged on everything I did. As the years went by I started meeting new people each year. It is now my Senior year of High School and I attend three different schools: CPC, Cousino, and Macomb Community College, I can finally say that I am gaining my confidence back.
My writing styles have changed drastically over the past four years of high school. This memo will explain how my writing has changed and how my knowledge of writing has improved.
As a new freshman entering this Community College, you will be discovering and experiencing many new things about the world in which you live and yourself. The jump from high school to college can be a very scary but exciting experience. I have some valuable advice for you on how to make this transition smoother and an enjoyable experience rather than a scary and lonely one.
I had to change the way I saw things and I’m sure I am going to great in college as long as I push myself. Whenever I become that radiologist I’m sure they will be proud of me. I am once again thankful they talk to me and help whenever I need it and if I ever have to say or asking them something they are ways here. I love them for everything even when I almost gave up in high school they were there telling me that I could do it and just do my best and I will overcome anything. I have many goal that I want to accomplish this year some being learning a better study habit, don’t be as shy, always have a smile of my face even if I’m not have a good day because you never know someone else might not be having a good day and by them seeing you smile might brighten their day, be active on campus, enjoy clubs, the most important one would be getting scholarships. I know if I am determined to accomplish these goal I can do them all. As the year goes on I am sure I will have my goals set for me to accomplish as well. I can say I am a strong independent girl who stands up for herself and I never let anyone run over me. I may seem like a mean person but I am far from that unless you
First of all, the adjustment to college isn't that rough. The staff and students are trained to make the adjustment as easy as possible, and the other students they meet are just as nervous as they are. Their new fellow classmates are just as anxious as you to meet people, so as long as you make the effort, you'll be surprised as to how many people you meet.
As I started my first day at college I was very nervous just because of the new environment, new people, and the fact that I was living on campus. In highschool I always said my plans after high school would be for me to go to a four year university, but of course never thought it would happen. But it happened, I knew going to college was going to be the best thing for be to be successful in the future. Getting used to the new environment & being around new people was difficult, but by the first two weeks of college I felt like I knew everyone already.
The assignments assigned from week 1 to 4 consisted of writing memos, application letter, resume, instructions, and a description of a technical object. As I did each assignment I learned something new that I didn’t know before, and also what I needed improvement on. As stated before, I never knew how important it was to analyze an audience prior to writing any type of document. This is an important technique to be aware of as it allows for effective communication in the workplace. I also learned how to write a proper application letter and resume. Although, I already have my own personal cover letter and resume, doing this assignment has helped me improve my sentence structure,
Writing has changed because of the efficiency that technology provides. With the invention of instant messaging, writing has started to become something new entirely. People are writing more often and faster to get a message across. Luckily, students know that the writing that they do with friends is much different than what employers are looking for in the work place (Guffey, M.E., & Loewy, D., pg. 3-29).
