I have come to an understanding that not all goals have to be academicals goals. Some individual can create action plans for fun and relaxation which will help to relax the mind. “Aiming for progress rather than perfection will allow students to maintain perspective, celebrate achievements, and continue persevering towards their goals” (edweek.org) sometimes improvement may take a longer time to accomplish and sometimes all action plan may not be able to accomplish. However, for this week I put all my best to accomplish my requirement, If I have to learn to moonwalk just to chive goal the moonwalking will be part of my achievement. My goals for this week is to complete my mental health nursing homework on timely manner, I also plan to read
Nurses are key components in health care. Their role in today’s healthcare system goes beyond bedside care, making them the last line of defense to prevent negative patient outcomes (Sherwood & Zomorodi, 2014). As part of the interdisciplinary team, nurses have the responsibility to provide the safest care while maintaining quality. In order to meet this two healthcare system demands, the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project defined six competencies to be used as a framework for future and current nurses (Sherwood & Zomorodi, 2014). These competencies cover all areas of nursing practice: patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality
The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate my reflection and understanding in the Role of the Mental Health Nurse in an episode of care supporting and promoting the recovery of service users. According to the National institute for Mental Health (2004) recovery is a process to restore something or return to a state of wellness, is an achievement of quality of life that is acceptable to the person (Ryan 2012).

The opportunity to expand and refine my nursing knowledge has always equated to me attending the University of Alabama School of Nursing’s masters program. With their master’s degree programs earning the number one spot for Top 50 Best Value, the quality of the programs is undeniable. I selected to apply to the psychiatric mental health track because during my undergraduate studies, I realized this was a career worthy study. My brother was diagnosed with bipolar/schizophrenia at fifteen, and I always questioned his lack of motivation and self-care abilities. It was not until taking the Concepts of Behavioral Health Nursing, that I realized the existence of positive and negative symptoms in patients with schizophrenia, and that apathy and learning disabilities were just as much a part of my brother’s illness as hallucinations or delusions. According to Akiko (2004) “Severity of negative symptoms was significantly associated with worse performance on attention/working memory,”(p. 750). With this
This is a great opportunity for students to evaluate themselves and acknowledge their weaknesses and strengths. This paper will discuss my success plan in nursing program.

Psychiatric nursing has always been my passion and I am ready to put my experience and leadership skills to use and further my career as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The psychiatric population is underserved and one of my goals is to continue working in fields others will not. I have always longed for the increased autonomy and decision making Nurse Practitioners use. Broken systems and burnt out mental health workers are a problem. For example, calling an on call physician in a patient crisis only to be given an order for something that is completely useless by a physician who does not care, has always bothered me. I look up to the Nurse Practitioners at work and have always noticed their kind, caring and responsive nature. I want
Prioritization and Time Management in Nursing Nursing can be particularly difficult and demanding and during the busy times and shifts some nurses might rarely have sufficient time to sit down or eat. A lot of nurses have a lot of things that they have to accomplish and have to be aware of ways to ask quick questions when it comes to the well-being and care of their patients. It is because nursing is increasingly high-paced and demanding that it becomes significantly critical for nursing professionals to learn ways to manage their times at work efficiently in order to decrease their levels of stress and ensure that the care they deliver is of high quality (Patterson, Ebright & Saleem, 2011). Improving the capacity of nurses to manage their times is significant, especially because it makes them become more efficient nurses, nurses who will be able to address the needs of a large number of patients within a short period. This does not usually translate to sacrificing the quality of patient care and the bedside manners of nurses; only that they have to complete the fundamental care they need within a short period.
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
After completing registered nursing school in 2006, a few years later, I obtained a bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2016. Over the last 10 years, I have tried to look for inefficient procedures, finds ways to streamline them, and consistently have striven to boost the productivity of everyone around me. Working as a nursing supervisor an area hospital for the last 3 years, I have tried to promote healthy patient outcomes. I understand the need for procedures but I also try to maximized the time spent educating the patients and family. By allowing time for good explanations to both the patient and family development of an understanding their disease process can occur. This empowers them to make informed decisions and promote health improvements. Throughout my career in nursing, I have tried to successfully communicate and partner with other members in
Psychiatric and mental health nursing is a unique specialty of nursing that strives to promote the mental health of clients. Psychiatric mental health nurses work in partnership with their clients to manage their mental illness. In Canada psychiatric mental health nursing is guided by seven standards of practice, which provide guidance for nursing practice to ensure that safe, competent, and ethical services are delivered to the clients (Canadian Federation of Mental Health Nurses [CFMHN], 2006). Of these standards, standard five, which addresses the nurse intervening through the teaching-coaching function, will be the focus of this paper. The purpose of this paper is to identify standard five from the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (2006), describe five of the indicators within that standard, apply them to clinical practice and reflect on the importance of each indicator through literature.
I would love the opportunity to study nursing as I feel that it will lead me down one of the most demanding and fulfilling career paths. My ambition is to become a mental health nursing due to my own minor issues with anxiety and the fact that a number of my friends and family members have also had mental health issues throughout their life's and this has given me a better understanding of how mental health issues can affect people and has allowed me to realise that your mental health is just as important as your physical health. One in four people will suffer with a mental health problem at some point in their lives and I would love the opportunity to help people during such difficult times in order to enable them to get there lives back on
Setting goals is the most important thing you can do in your life. Without goal's you are going to have no direction, no ambition to be successful, no drive to stay in school, and trouble finding a career that will provide for you. Without these three things, achieving your goals is going to be one of the toughest tasks in the years to come.
Mental health in nursing fraternity refers to a range of experiences and situations that a particular person can feel both physically and mentally. Mental health is a general term which incorporates a continuum from the most severe disorders to a variety and common mental health problems and mild symptoms of different intensity and duration. Nursing is not only a career, but a way to give back to the community by enhancing and maintaining the health of other individuals. Throughout my clinical experiences last year, I witnessed kindness and selflessness among many nurses that have impacted and helped shape my future career choices and life immensely. Throughout this semester, I will assess myself on my nursing skills and will constantly try to strengthen my assessments, communication, clinical judgment and patient safety skills using the Creighton Competency Evaluation Instrument (CCEI, 2014). I believe that my experiences at Mayo will enabled me to find several of my strengths that I will obtained throughout the semester along with finding my weaknesses that I can work on for next semester. I am
