This is a great opportunity for students to evaluate themselves and acknowledge their weaknesses and strengths. This paper will discuss my success plan in nursing program. There are multiple different areas of improvements that I can see in myself and my thinking process during the nursing program. First of all, throughout the nursing program, I have learned how to critically think about each single situation either in the real world or in the NCLEX world. I absolutely can see the improvement in my reading skills, I believe I have learned the way to critically read and critically think about every single situation. I believe the inability to understand the questions on the exam and getting low grades pushed me to explore more about critical reading and critical thinking, and made me to be a better reader. I also think that learning about nursing process and the nursing skill of …show more content…
paying attention to detailed information helped me to be precise in reading every single question and having a better understanding. I also can see the improvement in my communication in general. I have learned the therapeutic communication with individuals through the nursing program, and I have practiced the therapeutic communication techniques. Understanding the positive effects of therapeutic communication in health-care system pushed me towards learning and practicing the techniques. “Review your goals twice every day in order to be focused on achieving them” (Orlan, 2015) My goals from the areas of improvements are: my first goal is to have the ability to critically read and critically think during taking each exams and being able to have an acceptable exam result. My second goal is to have the ability to critically think about my patients and in a short period of time digest the information, connect the information to each other, and understand the situation. My third goal is to have the ability to maintain a therapeutic nurse-patient relationship by using therapeutic communication techniques. In order to complete my goals, first I need to be successful in nursing school.
Graduating from nursing school with Bachelor of Science in Nursing is the first step to build the road to get to the other goals. In order to reach the first goal, I need to focus on school, study hard, follow the instructions, explore more about critical care, and practice test taking skills. In order to reach my second goal, I need to have more education and experience. I do need to continue my education for my Masters of Science in Nursing and get more experience by working as a Nurse in a hospital. These ways will help me to be able to attach the dots of information to each other and the ability to understand the patient’s health condition and the needed care plan. For my third goal, I need more experience and practice. I believe most of the communication skill will be made through experience. I need to practice more on using therapeutic communication techniques and interact more with different patients to reach the third goal. I do believe that I can reach all my three goal in about two to three
years. Success is not an accident. hard work, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing are all included in success plan. (Solen, 2012) I believe that this course is challenging due to having so many different assignments and new topics. I think I supposed to be positive about this new semester and look at the positive side. I believe positivity has a great energy that can change everything. Therefore, I have to create that energy in myself and do not stop trying for a better outcome. I believe practicing the topics every single day for at least 3 to 5 hours will be so helpful to remind me all the information from pas courses. I also think participating in group studies, asking questions in class, practicing NCLEX style questions, and learning test taking strategies are helpful ways to be successful in this course.
The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is the governing body of all registered nurses in Ontario and is regulated. The CNO provides expectations and guidelines to follow, which need to be met by each Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) individually. As a nursing student, I am taught about the CNO and the importance of referring back to the guidelines while caring for patients. While gaining experiencing in the nursing field through my clinical settings, I have realized as a nursing student there are areas I need further development in. In this paper, I will address two of my learning needs and my goal for each. I will also discuss the plan I created in order to successfully meet my learning needs prior to becoming an RPN, and
This research has also found that other evidence-based studies have found that competency in nursing skills is still lacking (Evans, 2008). These skills are lacking by students and newly graduated nursing students who are in the first or second year of transition.
The professional development plan for nursing graduates is a program that was started by the government with the aims of creating a smooth transition from the student experience to workplace experience. Despite having learnt several ethical and professional contents, the professional development plan ensures that, all the graduate nurses have a smooth transition that ensures they deliver quality and standard services as expected of them (Gordon & Franklin, 2003). Under the nursing professional plan, the nurses are supposed to bring together personal and professional skills in order to improve the quality of the nursing practice in the country.
In an evidence based research, evaluation plan is very important. Evaluation is a systematic approach to assess the information, data or statistics collected through a research on a specific problem. Nurses should always practice evidence based approach and collect data so these can be compared with other studies done on this specific topic.

I am committed to continue to pursed advanced degree in nursing ultimately becoming a nurse practitioner. . In the next five to ten years from now, I want to write articles and books about nursing and healthcare related. I know the sky is my starting
My personal goal is to be a successful pediatric nurse who communicates and connect with patients on the personal level. I think I have not reached this goal because I still need to work on my communication skills. Through this course experience, I am a step closer to my goal. I discovered that it is easier to communicate and connect with people who has similar background and experience. Since most clients were students, I found it easy to find common topics to talk about and related to them easily. I think for me to be a successful pediatric nurse; I need to be familiar with the children’s world such as physical and cognitive development stages. I also need to know their interests, games, play, and language. Knowing the population would help me to communicate and connect with them.

Entering into higher education and professional advancement, I have reflected on my educational background, nursing career opportunities, and future goals. Development of a plan will assist with navigating through a pathway of advanced practice training. According to Johnson (2012), the benefit of a professional development plan and portfolio can help individuals organize, present, and reflect on their personal and professional accomplishments. This presentation and summarization were the first step in mapping out my course to success. The paper will review my educational achievements, professional background, professional goals, course learning outcomes, and practicum application
Taking the time to reflect on one’s career can increase self-awareness and enhance professional development. A career development plan is a confidential and integral document created by an individual which outlines the activities undertaken during their life. Hence, a professional development plan documents goals and skills required to accomplish dreams and aspirations. Moreover, a professional development program is reminiscent of ones’ past experiences and a glance at the future. Having a professional development plan in place is critical for graduate study to keep track of one’s progression. The principal purpose of a developmental plan is to give a description of my educational and professional background as well to explore my personal goals as it relates to my profession growth and development.

After graduating from nursing school with my associate degree, I began working as an emergency room nurse in a level one trauma center in East Texas. It has been 19 years now and I continue to work in emergency care. I now work in a smaller, yet still very busy emergency room. In the past, I have worked in many capacities, and now I am a staff nurse and work a peak hours shift, therefore I am busy the entire 12 hour shift, which I thoroughly enjoy. I precept new employees and students, and I am an instructor for TNCC. I care for patients that are critically ill or injured and also for those who only have minor complaints, and everything in between. I find satisfaction in caring for all levels of patients. Each patient no matter if their complaint is minor or life threatening they have come to me for help and I try and deliver the care they need. Emergency nursing is challenging in that there is always something new to learn and when you think you have seen it all, you will see something new. My relationships with my patients are brief, but I try and deliver the care that the patient needs as efficiently as possible. I feel it is important to interact with them, identify goals and react with care that will help them work towards the goals. If the patient is unable to identify their health goals due to illness then it is up to me to work with family and the physician to determine their goals.
Working with new graduate nurses has instilled in me the goal to share my knowledge and expertise with others and to teach others the art of nursing. My short-term goals are to complete the Master’s program by the summer of 2014. My second goal is to secure a job as a nurse educator at a hospital and work with my nurse manager to provide program like in-service to the hospital staff and students. I would like to incorporate my education from State University’s master’s program to assist hospital staff and patients in their learning process, with the use of new technology to facilitate the learning and understanding.
The Troy University Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FNP) program faculty have developed student learning outcomes that every student is expected to meet upon successful completion of the curriculum. The student learning outcomes correspond to the American Association of Colleges of Nurses (AACN) essentials of master’s education and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) nurse practitioner core competencies. This final reflective assignment will discuss the Troy University MSN-FNP student learning outcomes seven, eight, and nine.
Learning is considered a long term goal as it helps in continuity and evolution professionally (Thibault, 2011). It is important for me to be updated for best possible care provision. I will achieve this by developing interest to study towards attainment of highest levels of education for example PHD programs, attending education forums hosted by different universities, workshops and health seminars. My other long term ambitions include joining nurses’ professional organizations, administration duties and management skill acquisition and job promotions.
Coming into the nursing program, I was hopeful and looking forward to the new career. I have had issues, and it has taken me longer than expected to complete the program. I think because of this my strengths and areas of growth have changed. Per Strengths Quest my top strengths are ideation, connectedness, and individualization, strategic, and deliberative. I think the areas that will help me most as a nurse are ideation, individualization, and strategic. Ideation has helped me to learn ideas and concepts quickly. So, I can explain them to those around me including patients. Likewise, being able to focus on the individual means I can what people need by finding the best way to act that out. It particularly helps in the areas of educating, and advocating for the patient, as many procedures and protocols will be the same. Also, being strategic will help me get things done efficiently. As I get more experience as a nurse I can use this to consider new ways to improve the working environment for those around me as well.
