Owning a business is very difficult. It takes hard work, determination, and knowledge. “Running a business is one of the most rewarding — and most challenging — endeavors for entrepreneurs” (Owens, 2010). My goal is to start my own business and turn it into a multi-million dollar company. Achieving this goal will be difficult, but with the help of God, I will be able to do so. My personal goal is to own a wealthy business. There are three steps I have to take to get where I want to be. The first step is to use the skills I am learning in my business and accounting classes in the next few semesters to start a small business in Lynchburg. Doing so will help me to learn how to run my own business effectively, and hopefully help me to decide what …show more content…
The New York Times states that “An estimated 671,800 small businesses with employees opened their doors in 2005, even as another 544,800 were expected to close theirs that year” (Johnson 2006). The majority of businesses do not last. It takes a lot to keep a business alive. Jonathon Jones states; “It can be easy to start a small business, as there are opportunities to fit almost every budget and skill. It is often harder, however, to run a small business successfully” (Jones, 2012). Business owners have a hard time keeping themselves afloat because of the competition of other businesses that are selling the same product or service. The key to keeping a business around is to be different than your competitors. Apple is a prime example of this, as they continue to come out with new products such as Apple Pay and Apple Watch. Happy employees means better customer service, and better customer service means happy customers. Whether they are hired to clean the bathrooms or to help run the company, employees should always be treated with respect. In my experience, this is not always the case. Businesses treat their employees as short term assets, when they should be treated as people. All humans are created equal, and just because someone is put in a position of authority over someone else, does not mean that they are more of a person. I plan to treat all my employees equally, with respect and
With all discrimination aside, what’s important is to show some honest respect, ethics, value, and loyalty to every employee.
There are over 28 million small locally owned businesses in the United States and 70 % of these businesses are owned and operated by a single person. Owning a small business is not an easy task it takes hard work and dedication, Steve Jobs once said “you need a lot of passion for what you’re doing because it’s so hard”, people don’t realize
Business growth general is assumed to be good; bigger is assumed to be better (Hess, 2011), but if the proper planning is not in place it can lead to a business failure. Beginning a business based on something she loved, and needed in her life Susan Feller made the brave decision to build a successful business by baking and selling gluten-free cakes and desserts. After her retirement she focused on her dream and solving her own issue, finding food safe and healthy to eat for those, like herself, with Celiac disease and gluten allergies, but they also had to be delicious. Feller had some tough decisions to make as a small business owner, would she be able to keep up with the demand, how can she grow her business and what if she decided she had had enough and wanted to close the business? These are all decisions any business owner have to face at one point or another.
“…[All] who have accumulated great fortunes, first did a certain amount of dreaming, hoping wishing, desiring, and planning before they acquired the money” (pg.26). Every success starts with a goal, and the first step towards achieving ones goal is to have a burning desire. The characteristics of a burning desire is that it is definite and that one thinks and dreams about it, thus eventually becoming a positive, healthy consuming obsession in life required for motivation. Definite, meaning that a person has a specific goal in mind while putting all his or her energy toward it and not giving up until it is attained. A major pitfall is that most people only see “becoming rich” as a hope or a wish. When an obstacle comes along, instead of trying really hard to overcome it, people give up, taking the easy way out. People fail to realize that success comes as a result of overcoming some crisis through persistence. Any idea can come true if one truly believes in it. Take Edwin C. Barnes, for example.
