The passion I have chosen to do my project on is music because I feel that I am most passionate about band. I also believe that not enough people play a musical instrument. In my project, I will start an instrument drive and collect instruments from people that do not use them. Then, I will give the instruments to schools that do not have a big music program. With my project, it will be hard to get people to donate their instruments that they don’t use and it will be hard to find a school to donate the instruments to. Although, I believe that I will give them to S.T.E.M middle school. My passion relates to the community because some schools do not have nearly a big enough music program. After my instrument drive, I will donate the instruments that I have collected to schools that don’t have a big music program. Also, this will benefit middle school kids. Music has been a big part of my life and it could be a big part of a lot of kid’s lives. At the end of my project, my outcome that I hope will be that one school in Adams 12 will have enough instruments to start a music program. I hope that once people see what I have done to help S.T.E.M or any other school, they will try to help other school’s in my community. In may, on our project night, I will be presenting what instruments I collected and who donated them to me. I will also present what school I donated the instruments to. The things that I might need will be flyers to advertise what I am doing. I will put these up in century and I will put these up in a music store that my mentor works at. Also, I might need money to help fix instruments that are donated to me if they are damaged. In conclusion, I like this project because the thing that I am most passionate about is music and I believe that not enough people are musically involved. Music is a huge part of my life and if someone starts playing an instrument, then their lives could change
...join so long ago I never really knew I 'd end up here doing what I do. It seems like the common theme for me is seeing something and saying “I can 't do that” then pursuing it until I can. One of my fondest memories is watching someone at the percussion concert play a marimba solo when I was in sixth grade and just looking over at Justin molder and laughing saying “wow I can 't do that” now I do that all the time. I didn 't think I could ever be the leader of a group like this it seemed like too much for me, but now after watching and being in this program and seeing where it could go and what I can do, I want to help take it there. I feel great about next year no matter what happens but I 'm ready to step up, I 'm ready take on whatever I have to to make this year the best year yet. Not just for me but for us all every last one of us in this great family I call home.
What were your goals for this project? Our goals for this project is to raise at least $100 for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, but also to earn a good grade. We decide to choose St. Jude because Manuela personally has a one year old boy and she had commented that she saw a television commercial were a young boy was suffering from this horrible disease, but unfortunately lost his battle against cancer. We want create consciousness that with just donating 63 cents a day and $19 a month we can make a big difference, which you can help save a life of one of these children. Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. I have played an intrinsic role in my school’s band and orchestra department through helping organizing performances, teaching classes, and tutoring individuals. We all believe that extracurricular activities in schools can be beneficial, right? In schools, we currently have optional extracurricular courses such as football, art, music, and more. We also have mandatory health and health science courses such as physical education and health and nutrition. Why is physical education a required course and music only an extra curricular activity? As discussed in class, discourse is our communication. Furthermore, author James Paul Gee of “What is Literacy” defines discourse as an “identity kit” (Gee, “What is Literacy?”). Gee includes discourse as a combination of one’s thinking, acting, and language that is associated to a group of others. There are different kinds of discourses; two discourses that will be discussed in this paper are primary and secondary. Primary discourse is the “oral mode developed in the primary process of enculturation” (Gee, “What is Literacy?”). The primary discourse in this paper is the first-person experience I had in high school. Secondary discourse is “developed in association with and by having access to and practice with these secondary institutions” (Gee, “What is Literacy?”). School, work, and church are examples of secondary institutions. The secondary discourse in the paper is attending the University of Arkansas and writing this paper. According to Gee, “secondary discourse can serve as a meta-discourse to critique the primary discourse…” (“What is Literacy?”). Throughout this process I wanted to know if high school is destined. Was my high school experience awful or is there a sociological reasoning behind the events? My names Chase Tate i'm 14 years old, 6 feet 3 inches and go to grey hawk middle school. I get in trouble a lot at school Teachers want to send me to an alternative school were the worst of them all go to There was kids all ages there up to 18.I Don't think I should go to this school but my parents agree with them so I have to go.My mom and dad drive me it's was a long drive it took 6 hours. We finally made it and I don't want to get out of the car. The place was terrifying it had gated fences like a prison.
Of all the instruments laid out on display, only one caught my attention. I was thirteen at the time, and naturally, my eye was drawn to the shiniest of the group. I had never heard the sound of a flute before, aside from the cheap imitation of one on my family’s electronic keyboard. Nevertheless, I picked the pretty, gleaming, easy-to-carry flute on that first day of band class. Three years later, I can’t imagine playing anything else. What started off as blind luck and an attraction to shiny objects is now a part of my life. Playing an instrument is always a worthwhile investment; you develop a skill that many people only wish they had, you have opportunities to meet other musicians, and you may even get to travel in a band setting. But in order to reap the benefits, you first have to learn how to play.
With the position that we’re In with this band, we’re lucky enough to see things like that and learn from them.
