G.R.E.A.T. ESSAY-One Direction

One Direction is the biggest pop band in the world, arguably compared to the former Beatles or Backstreet Boys, however those groups don’t come anywhere close to the five(currently four) men by the name of (in photo order from left to right) Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, (no longer in the band) and Harry Styles, that have captured the hearts of millions of people of all ages and genders all around the world. They started their Journey on the hit show The X Factor(U.K.) in 2010 and are still making number 1 hits in 2015, after already having beating chart records that even bands such as The Rolling Stones and Coldplay never got the chance to claim. Several of their songs symbolism meanings of friendship, love forgiveness, acceptance and the simple enjoyment of life. For example, the song Diana from One Direction’s third album Midnight Memories is about lifting someone up when they’re feeling down as stated in the lyrics “Let me be the one to light a fire inside those eyes/ you’ve been lonely/you don’t even know me/but I can feel you crying/Diana/let me be the one to lift up your heart and save your life/I don’t think you even realize baby you’d be saving mine.”(One Direction) These lyrics are only a prime example of how many songs written by One Direction are truly empowering and inspirational for their …show more content…

They’ve gone to Ghana to volunteer and help with underprivileged children and families which brought them a new perspective on life. Liam talks about how he met a woman and her family who were having a naming ceremony for their new baby and he states “She was lying on a single mattress on the floor inside the tent and we went to meet her dad. He shook her our hands, and then turned to Harry and said “Please, please take her away from here.’ I was just gutted. It was really hard. In fact it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to listen to in my life. I just couldn’t deal with it.”(who we are) That was just one example of how One Direction’s trip Ghana changed them for the better, however all of the boys were impacted greatly by it. Another example is a statement made by Harry who said “I think in life it’s important that you have experiences like that. With the position that we’re In with this band, we’re lucky enough to see things like that and learn from them. I think that it’s important that you try to make a difference, even if it’s only a small difference. (who we are) They were so young when they volunteered and because of that, as they’ve gotten older they’ve been inspired to do a myriad of other things for charities that not only include donating large sums of money to charities, but they’ve also thrown organized and helped charities for terminal ill children as well as children
