I have always been inclined to help others and sometimes I wonder if this is something that is inborn in most humans. As a doctor, I understand the responsibility I have contracted with society. While dentistry is my permanent source of satisfaction, providing the best care to my patients has always provided me with an added satisfaction. Drilling and filling teeth is not what makes a dentist a true professional, but the satisfaction of knowing that we improve the quality of life of people through diagnosis, treatment and prevention of oral diseases. Dentist are very important to society; therefore, my passion for dentistry as a mean to serve our community despite of any obstacles I may find on my way to achieve this. When I was about to be graduated of High School, I still didn’t have a clear vision of what my vocation would be. Having had achieved one of the highest GPA in high school, I was guaranty the admission to any career I wanted; hence, I had to make a decision of what career I had to select. Consequently, I visited a dental clinic located a few blocks from my house to find out what it was like to be a dentist. I approached a doctor and asked her to allow me to observe her for a few days to find out what it was like to be a dentist. I have also had the opportunity of obtaining my certification as a “Professor Instructor” while I was still in Cuba. This certification, allowed for me to pass my experiences and knowledge to others, which I considered a valuable experience. Collaboration with staff and interaction with patients has been one of the things I have treasure more about my profession.
