My Learning Experience

As described by the Oxford English Dictionary, the term “learning” can be defined as “The acquisition of knowledge or skills through study, experience or being taught.” I believe that learning and going to school is vital, but it seems that everyone has a different philosophy for learning. Even though there are three main ways to learn, there are a variety of particular methods to incorporate learning under those three broad categories. I have always enjoyed learning and I am able to learn by studying, experiencing things for myself, and being taught how to do things.

All throughout my life I have learned many things, just by experiencing them myself. I feel like you can hear people talk about something and then watch them do it all you want, but you will not truly learn until you experience it for yourself. For example, you learn how to ride your bike by listening to the instructions, watching someone do it, and then you get on the bike and peddle it yourself. Learning by experience relates and has helped me learn in my English class tremendously. I signed up and experienced previous dual enrollment English courses when I was in high school, just so that I could get some college experience and prepare myself for this course. In this course, I am learning by experience, as well. For example, we wrote an autoethnography and I was able to learn how to write this type of paper because I listened to the professor’s directions, the professor provided examples to go by, and then I was assigned to write the autoethnography. People are taught how to do things all throughout their lives. People are always explaining and showing you how to do something, whether it be teaching you how to walk as a baby, how to pronounce a word, how to cook a meal, or how to write a summary correctly. Whether you are a child or an adult, others can always teach you something, whether it be in the classroom, at home, or on the streets. If you attend school, professors are your teachers. They are there to instruct you and teach you how to do assignments and lessons that will relate to your intended profession. Whenever others teach me, I am able to learn and develop a better understanding of what is being taught. For example, my professor explains how to write a summary and then I take the knowledge she has provided me with and I apply the skills I have learned as I write my summary. Whenever I actually apply what I have been taught, I feel as if I am further imprinting the lesson into my
