My Leadership Philosophy Essay

I would like to take this opportunity to give insight on my philosophy on

leadership. At a minimum, a leader must set the standard, be committed, respect those

around you and always keep your subordinates informed. Being in a leadership role

should not be honored as just a position but a place of responsibility and constant

growth for yourself and others. Over my career, I was exposed to different types of

leadership styles. This aided me in the development of my own leadership style. There

are several things a leader must be, know, and do to succeed. A leader must be a

To be an effective leader you must be professional, know the standard, and do what is

right no matter the situation. Also being an effective leader isn’t someone that just barks

out orders because they can. Being someone that can teach and be taught no matter

the rank is something that I live by.

LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY

A leader must be a constant professional which takes a significant amount of

commitment and discipline even when you think no one notices. At all times, a leader

must exude good character traits, ethics, and morals as an example for others to

imitate, the total Soldier concept. The things that I expect out my Soldiers and

subordinates they can most definitely expect to see me those actions exuding from me.

An essential trait present in all effective leaders is being competent. A leader’s

competence must be evident through actions and decisions making. I am very aware

as a leader of my strengths and weaknesses. There are stressors and adversity we

experience daily as leaders that will not be quickly overcome, however a great leader

will take each situation and handle it accordingly. Additionally, having resilience
