To improve my health over a period of 14 days I had two main goals: eat healthier and increase my activity level. I planned to not eat fast food, cut out caffeine, and eat a healthy balance of fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy, and grains. In addition, to increase my activity level I intended to go to the gym four days a week and workout for at least 45 minutes to an hour a day. There were not many changes to my original plan other than working out almost every day and sometimes even doing two activities a day. I never really noticed how many days I was working out, but I knew working out or at least doing some type of activity made me stress-free at the end of the day. This experience taught me a lot not only about my health, but about myself …show more content…
Shockingly, I wasn’t tempted by the junk food in the house or their bad eating habits. Instead I actually got them to eat a few healthy meals with me that they ended up liking. The two things that best motivated me was seeing the results and my mom. Firstly, my mom was always asking if I wanted to go on a walk, eat a meal at her house, what time for the gym, and etc. My mom helped push me and motivate me during this whole experience and stayed by my side through it all. Secondly, my results of having more energy, less stress, and less inflammation in my hands kept me going and wanting to do more. The highlight of this experience was seeing the difference in my hands due to my rheumatoid arthritis. When I began to eat healthier and workout the inflammation in my hands went down drastically which helped tremendously with the pain it always causes …show more content…
Even though the project is over I plan to do that same things that I did for eating healthier and increasing my activity level. To change it up I could start to do two activities a day, find new activities that I could enjoy and find new healthy recipes instead of eating the same thing over and over again. As far as other health behavior changes that I could plan to do in the future to improve my health is getting more sleep or at least a decent amount of sleep. Furthermore, I could improve eating healthy and go see a nutritionist who could help and give me a definite food plan to help with my rheumatoid arthritis. By making these changes I may get rid of my chronic pain, inflammation, be less stressed, have more energy, and even be a happier person

D1: I have decided to look at a 6 year old going through bereavement. Bereavement means to lose an individual very close to you. When children go through bereavement they are most likely to feel sad and upset about the person’s death. Children at a young age may not understand when a family member dies. Children may not understand bereavement. For example a 6 year old’s father been in a car crash and has died from that incident. Death is unpredictable and children can’t be prepared for a death of a family member as no one knows when someone is going to die or not. Unfortunately every child can experience bereavement even when a pet dies. It is important that we are aware that effects on the child so we can support them in the aftermath.
The United States is projected to spend nearly 20 percent of the Gross Domestic Product on healthcare by 2020.According to a Mckinsey study $447 billion of the 1.7 trillion the U.S. spent on healthcare in 2003 was in excess of what it should have spent based on its wealth. A 1 % increase in the rate of health-spending results in an increase of about $2 trillion in spending on health over the next 10 years.
What does ‘care’ mean? Care is the provision of what is necessary for your health, welfare and protection of someone or something. However when you talk about ‘care’ in a care practice the term changes and becomes more about enabling people to meet all their needs which would refer to their social, physical, emotional, cognitive and cultural needs. The individual is central to the meaning of care in this context.
2.3 Explain how the health and social care practitioner own values, beliefs and experiences can influence delivery of care.
When the blood glucose is higher than the normal levels, this is known as diabetes disease. The body turns the food we eat into glucose or sugar and use it for energy. The insulin is a hormone created by the pancreas to help the glucose get into the cells. The sugar builds up in the blood because either the body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t well use its own insulin (CDC, 2015). In the United States diabetes is known as the seventh leading cause of death. There are different types of diabetes. However, there are two main types of diabetes and these are; Diabetes type 1 and Diabetes type 2 (CDC, 2015).
Throughout the Diet Analysis Project, I was able to analyze and inspect my diet to examine what I was eating, what types of nutrients I was getting and how much exercise I was participating in over a week’s period. Through this period, five of the days were back to back and the last two was a weekend day. I then compared all aspects with my recommended levels of nutrients for my dietary recommended intake and the calories burned through exercise versus my calories consumed through what I was eating. I needed to ensure the nutrients I was getting would allow a good fit for staying healthy and reaching, but not overextending, my needed nutrient levels. I found some very interesting facts that pertained to my diet that were good and then some
Often in practice, we as nurses deal with a variety of diseases and treatments and often have to react to the illness that the patient presents with upon our interaction. While this is an essential piece of our practice, we also have a duty to our patients to be proactive in preventing specific health-related consequences based on their risk factors and to promote their health and well being. Health promotion as it relates to nursing is about us empowering our patients to increase their control over their lives and well beings and includes: focusing on their health not just illness, empowering our patients, recognizing that health involves many dimensions and is also effected by factors outside of their control (Whitehead et al. 2008)..
Health is an individual’s ability as well as communities to reach their potential. Health is not the absence of sickness, as measured by clinical presentations, but of a functioning sound body, soul and spirit. The World Health Organization defines health as an optimistic notion putting emphasis on social, personal means and physical capabilities (WHO, 1998). Health promotion practice has many phases that guide and ensure its effectiveness. It serves to prevent the development major health problems; this ideal also needs to be incorporated fused into nursing students’ learning curricula in order have a successful outcome. In addition, health promotion should also be included in the health program
Creating an individual health and wellness plan helps you plan for your future of creating and /or maintaining a positive, safe lifestyle by addressing underlying issues. “No matter how hard we try and no matter what skills we bring to bear, some problems remain out of our control. When this is the case, we can tell the truth: ‘It’s too big and too mean. I can’t handle it.’ In that moment, we take a step toward greater health” (Ellis, 2015, p. 320). Problems and their solutions within a health plan can be evaluated through five different categories: Diet, Exercise, Rest, Safety, and Health Support. Today we will discuss how I was personally affected in each of those areas and how I plan to implement a solution.
...e completely healthy attempting to avoid my punishment and then there were days where I ultimately caved and failed at eating well. On those days, I followed the rules I set in place and worked out as I said I would that evening. Part of the time my boyfriend would inevitably cause me to falter by cooking a nice fattening meal, but I don’t blame him at all considering it was up to me to make the decision to refrain from eating it. I probably didn’t do as well as I could have around lunch time or dinner but I’m glad at the fact that I did keep away from sweets and snacks throughout the entire week. I was really intrigued with getting good results for this project so I tried my hardest to actually follow the program set. Even if I don’t keep with this change after the project it’s very comforting to know I CAN eat healthy when I want and I CAN workout if I need too.
Historically, the nursing profession has been actively involved in the health promotion and disease prevention among the general public. However, while caring for others, nurses often neglect their personal safety, which ultimately results in the high level of work-related injuries. Failure to timely address risk factors for nursing can have dire consequences for patient outcomes, since it is often associated with increased medication errors and patient falls, poor quality of care, and permanent disability of the nursing staff (Stokowski, 2014).
The importance of a healthy community is not only an issue that affects the individual health of member of the community but is also something affects the health of the overall economic health of the community. Health education helps keep people in check with their personal health, and good personal health correlates with more happiness. Happiness is life correlates with more satisfaction with what an individual 's does on the daily. If an individual is more happy with their daily life then it is very possible that they are in some way happy with their chosen job or occupation. When companies have a happier workforce there is a higher chance of increased productivity, which in turn creates higher chances for an increased profit in the company.
Health care has always been an interesting topic all over the world. Voltaire once said, “The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” It may seem like health care that nothing gets accomplished in different health care systems, but ultimately many trying to cures diseases and improve health care systems.
I know in the back of my mind that I need to eat healthier and exercise more, but I never actually put my thoughts about it into action. I need to keep myself in the right mindset to accomplish my goals of making myself healthier. I often will get distracted and forget all about what I had planned on doing; I need to focus. I think also having someone else there to push me and make sure I keep at the good habits will keep me from straying away. I feel like I have plenty of time to go and exercise or think “Oh, I can eat something healthy during my next meal.” However, the next thing I know, the day is over and I didn’t keep to my word. It’s a lot harder than I realized, and I’m still trying my best to get better at
