My First Experience to Read And Write When I was going to school for the first time, I have learnt how to read and write because of my mother. I learnt to write when I was 3 years old. My mom was the one who teach me how to read a words and sentences. The first word that I learnt was “Papih” and “Mamih. I leant that words because I call my mom and dad “Papih” and “Mamih. I leant it for for about a month. After I learnt it my Mom told me that I have to learn my own name. It was such a piece of cake. After that my Mom brought me to a kindergarten. I thought it will be my first time to attend school. After we arrived at the kindergarten, we went to the teacher’s office. My Mom had a conversation with the teachers. On Monday, I didn’t go to kindergarten
The other five autumn poems have references of Keats’s poem within them, yet they give much more than that. The poem Fr288 “My First Day Well – Since Many Ill” is written in ballad form with abundant usage of slant rhymes. While on the surface of the poem contemplates the passage of time, seasons, and illnesses, it actually describes an event in Dickinson’s life. In 1862, the year the poem was believed to be written in, she had been bedridden from an illness for months, which often left her wondering if her illness would end in death during the duration of her sickness (Mamunes 39). The Brazilian threads in the poem signify the red streaks of blood mingled in her sputum, but it can also signify the fall foliage. The final stanza reveals Dickinson 's insight into her life-threatening illness, where she looked the positives and decided it opened a path to deeper awareness of her own body. This poem has a lovely depiction of autumn and the poet is able to admire it, but thoughts of summer cast ponderous feelings of loss. In contrast, autumn hides death and decay. According
For centuries, views of the world and its inhabitants have been expressed through various ways of art or philosophy. These views can often be related to the seeking of truth to the creation of life, politics, or the problems of the world from before, now, and after. Accordingly, it is by paintings, books, or music, that words or images have an abundant effect on people. Society indicates that knowledge is power, so then why are we sometimes burdened with the errors of generations before? The quote, “writing in English is the most ingenious torture ever devised for sins committed in previous lives. The English reading public explains the reason why,” by James Joyce; points out that any novelist, historian, or author writing about our previous failures as humans in history affects any reader in a way that brings up painful memories and leaves the reader with past knowledge. To be honest, I had to grab a chair and think for what seemed like hours before I could actually comprehend what the quote was saying. I thought to myself, “How can writing about the past bring pain to the reader? I understood how writing can bring knowledge to a person, but how can it affect anything in the present?” As Vladimir Nabokov said, “In reading, one should notice and fondle details.” So, I opened up my mind and started to analyze the quote. Then, suddenly it clicked! In The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli, Machiavelli has a similar style to this quote in which he explains that any prince should not select anything else for study but the art of war. He declares through studying the histories of the art of war, “A prince will learn of many illustrious men’s causes for victory or defeat; therefore, avoiding the latter and imitating the former.”(Machiavell...
I felt so nervous because everyone around me was talking but I couldn’t understand a word that came out of their mouths. When my mom dropped me off at school that morning, I almost started crying. I had a certain feeling of loneliness, as if there was no one to relate to. As a person who didn’t speak English, I was placed in E.S.O.L program at school, where I could be taught at a pace fitting for me. Making friends became a great challenge because I wasn’t able to communicate with my peers; the reason why I always felt excited about going home to my family, the only people with whom I could communicate effectively in French. As time went on, communication with my peers became less of a hassle because I could speak more of the English language. Being able to learn English in the course of four months and speak it fluently, I then begin to make real connections with my peers. I became best friends with a girl named Jazmin Ward and over the course of time I made more friends. Life began to make a little more since for me at this point. I didn’t feel so alone anymore. I even enjoyed being school more then I enjoyed being home with my

Writing and reading are two essential skills that we need to have in order to succeed in any field of study that we have chosen. Without these two we would not be here, wouldn’t be writing right now and would be considered the lowest class of our society. There are different aspects of writing that each of us may, or may not, excel at. Some of us are creative enough to write short stories or even novels on fiction while others, like me, are better at writing essays. To accomplish this we have all had a person to inspire us, to drive us, to get us over the hump of confidence that we need to succeed. Still to be successful we need to count on ourselves to succeed.
Mina Loy in “Feminist Manifesto” seeks an individual female identify free from the masculine. The three most important characteristics in her writing promote individual freedom, women roles, and feminine status. Loy, in her manifesto seems to choose a destructive path against the man and female in a struggle power of one another. She states in the beginning that women are not equal to men. “be brave & deny at the outset-that pathetic clap-trap war cry woman is the equal of man-she is not” (Loy, 2013, p.1981). She argues that men and women are enemies “the only point at which the interests of the sexes merge-is the sexual embrace” (Loy, 2013, p. 1982). Relationships between men and woman require sharing, but Loy dismisses men by stating women must “seek within yourselves to find out what you are” (Loy, 2013, p. 1982). Women need to find themselves before successfully having a relationship with a man. This would be necessary for the relationship to grow and nurture. Loy states “to obtain results you must make sacrifices” (Loy, 2013. p. 1982). However, making these sacrifices does not r...
My first day of kindergarten was not a happy day for me. I was scared and wanted to
Everyone has his or her own first day of kindergarten experiences. Some might have been more memorable while others still trying to forget. Mine was merely an observance and evaluation period. After I gave my mother a kiss goodbye, and placed my belongings in the cubbyhole I was ready to learn, but unfortunately the majority of the other students were not. Considering one can not get too accomplished over many loud high-pitched cries, I was forced to be patient and suffer silently from boredom.
Which meant school was just an after thought in my mind. This also meant that my new school wasn’t a reality- until I had to register. Suddenly the reality of my decision fell onto me. I was so nervous.
One day my mom told me that I was moving schools and of course I was not happy at all. So the whole moving school thing I wasn’t happy about, but the good thing about it was I would meet new kids and make new friends and my mom told me that their was two kids that didn’t like each other so I was kinda worried about that but I would be fine. So the next day I got up I was ready to step into a new school and meet new people,so when we got there I went to take a tour and met a kid named August and another kid named Jack they were going to show me around. So they showed me around the school and I was so excited because I got invited to August’s b-day party and it was really fun but August told me their was this kid that was mean to him and Jack, he also told me that he was going to be at the park this afternoon with his mom so we
Historical Context Analysis on “Learning to Read and Write” Unlike any other African American, “Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey” known as, Frederick Douglass who wrote “Learning to Read and Write” was well ahead of most slaves due to his given opportunity, but the gift of reading and writing that was bestowed unto him by a kindhearted woman at one time became tormenting. Douglass was born in the month of February in year 1818 which the day is unknown. He lived with his grandmother and aunty in Talbot County, Maryland after only seeing his mother a few times before she passed and unknowing his white father. Douglass was later sent to Master Hugh Aulds at age six; where he learned to read and write by the Master’s wife Sophia.
I can hear my heart pumping faster and faster. With every breath, it pumps a little faster. I count each person ahead of me in my roll of straight desks. Pam will read paragraph one. Carl has paragraph two and Donna will read paragraph four. That means, I will read paragraph five. I go over every word making sure I can pronounce each one correctly. I am not aware of what the others have read. My only concern is not to make a mistake. It is my turn. Yes, I made it. Wow, glad that is over! What I have described is my early reading experience in elementary school. Reading was not something you did for pleasure. Reading was something you maneuvered through making sure you didn’t explored by the bombs of vocabulary. It was not something you enjoyed.
I remember that, when being taught to read I already knew more words than I had realized. Watching my dad’s finger skim under the words as he read them had helped me subconsciously learn those words. I learned to read and write at a much more accelerated pace than my peers. I felt impatient with those who lagged behind, not realizing that not everyone had been given the same advantages as me. The moment I started to read on my own, my great aunt, a retired kindergarten teacher, would send me a box of books she had used in her classroom every year for my birthday. Throughout elementary school, when I received the box, I would bring it up to my room and practice reading all the books on my own. Being able to read on my own opened the door to a world I hadn’t been able to reach without help
