My family has experienced financial need prior to my birth, unfortunately for my mother. She has been plagued with horrendous illnesses since she was born, beginning will allergies at birth. She was only two years old when she needed allergy shots to be administered. Not to mention, had undergone two bladder surgeries and infections would cause a 105 degree temperature. At age five, Junior Rheumatoid arthritis was diagnosed in her finger and she was sent to Scottish-Rite Hospital in Dallas. Over the course of two years she suffered with this disease and the arthritis had moved to every joint on the right side of her body. She was taking eight aspirin a day just to make it through kindergarten. That December, at age seven, her family was given …show more content…
Although her story does not end because a freshman in high school, she became the youngest patient to develop endometriosis at age fourteen. As a young teenager she was told she was never going to be able to have kids, and needed to undergo a hysterectomy. However, over the course of four years she had four surgeries and fortunately her last doctor disagreed with her previous one and told her she could have as many children as she wanted. Just as she was starting to live a normal life she developed kidney stones while attending Texas A&M. She had surgery to remove her gallbladder and remained healthy for the next few years. Although, her body can never seem to heal, because ever since my parents married my mom spend numerous weeks in and out of hospitals. One doctor performed surgery to see if she could even get pregnant not realizing she was already pregnant with my older brother. Both of my mother's pregnancies were difficult for her body, with severe migraine headaches, high blood pressure and serious issues with dehydration, which caused my brother and I to be born a month …show more content…
The medicine alone was $500 a month for several years. These medical issued have stunted our families’ ability to put money in a college fund. Since my mother still suffers every day from the pain in her body and many days is unable to use her hands, she is unsure how long she will be able to work. Many medical tests are trying to prove arthritis still plaques her hands today causing the pain, but praise God, she is still free of arthritis. As you can understand, even though my parents work hard to make a good living it is easy to see any extra money goes towards medical bills rather than a college fund. I have been working for Troy ISD in the Technology Department since December 2015 to earn money for college and have created my own business to repair technology components. With the reality my parents are not going to be able to pay for my college education, I fully expect to work while I attend Texas A&M to pay my expenses. I would really appreciate any scholarship I can receive to help me make my dream come true to be an Aggie and to receive a degree from Texas
She got a new disease called stenotrophomonas, which is very difficult to treat. She was becoming pan-resistant, meaning she was resistant to everything. She had a bacteria called Gram negative. This bacteria has an armor formed around the negative bacteria that makes it harder for normal antibiotics to cure it. She was left with only one option, a lung transplant. For one, it was a very risky option since her body was so weak, and two, she would have to wait until a transplant even came up for her to have. She ended up getting the lung transplant though. Two years after she came home from the operation and she is still alive, but she has to be very cautious every day. She takes a handful of prescriptions twice a day and still picks up bacteria easily. Her mom said she has gotten pneumonia twice already. Her life is now extremely difficult, but she is at least
It has been a dream of mine to attend Texas Tech University, thanks mainly to their agriculture program, but I also chose it because it is the closest university to my home, a small farming community around eighty miles from Lubbock. I will be living in a dorm, which creates another financial need. Housing and dining are not cheap, and this scholarship would help lighten this financial load.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory and an autoimmune disease that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s tissue (Rheumatoid arthritis, 2017). This disease affects the entire body, which is called a systemic (means entire body) disease. Arthritis is derived from the word part arthr-, which means “joint,” and -itis, which means “inflammation,” so altogether it means “inflammation of the joints.” It creates inflammation that causes the tissue that lines the inside of joints (synovium) to thicken. About 1.5 million people in the U.S. are affected. It affects all races, but it affects three times as many women than men (What is Rheumatoid Arthritis, n.d.). Overtime, rheumatoid arthritis causes painful swelling that can potentially result in bone erosion or joint deformity, which leads up to physical disabilities. RA can affect more than just your joints, but can spread to body systems, skin, eyes, lungs, heart, blood vessels, e.t.c (Rheumatoid arthritis, 2017).
Upon the completion of my high school career I was faced with the sudden realization that I was growing up and on the verge of becoming independent. A few months prior, I had applied to Montana State and received my acceptance letter. The future was before me and my ambitions were truly limitless. That is, until the fact set in that I was going to have to pay for this education that I desired. I knew that with my busy schedule, I would be unable to make enough money while only working a few hours here and there. I was beginning to lose sight of hope. Then one day I talked to my counsellor about what I could do and he pointed me towards dozens of scholarships that I could apply for. The exigence or purpose

I know that through my hard work and dedication I can make my goals a reality. However, it may not be possible without these Scholarships. While my parents will help me in any way they can, I am hoping that my hard work and dedication to my studies pays off. I am a very self-driven individual who will accomplish any goal I set my mind on achieving. I am also aware of how without scholarships I may face a financial setback. I am hoping that through the help of scholarships I will be able to achieve all my goals in a timely
Rheumatoid Arthritis is when the joints are chronically inflamed, which happens because it is an autoimmune disease which means that the immune system attacks the body tissues. Although Rheumatoid Arthritis mainly affects the joints, it can also affect other organs.
Many seniors are sitting on more money than they need while family members no longer living with them are destitute or have financial problems.
Around the age of 5, going to doctor appointments was a normal occurrence . I would even look forward to it, spending time with my mom. I will always cherish those times that I spent with her. Those appointments eventually lead up to the surgery that would change everything. During that surgery, the doctor had created a hole in the mesentery lining, tissue that connects organs to the wall of the abdomen. This hole eventually became larger causing many organs to fail. We brought my mom into the ER where she was brought into surgery. This would be the first time my mom would die.
This is a good example of how low monetary income can lead to mental illness. As my dad suffers from bipolar disorder, a chronic mental illness, one could infer the lower levels of family income could be a contributing factor of negative mental health.

Hi I’m Mallorie, I’m 31 years old and this is My Arthritis Story. In the winter of 1995 at the age of 10 I came down with one of the many cases of strep throat. I started getting fevers and complaining of joint pain on a regular basis.
When she went into surgery in St. John’s Medical Center in St. Louis, we were all there and confidant that everything would go as planned. The doctors came out about one hour into the surgery to inform us that the damage was much worse than they initially thought. They told us that they would keep us updated on her progress. Two hours later they came out to tell us that her heart stopped beating and they tried everything they could to revive her, but she had died.
So one is going about your business, doing your normal routine and it’s time for a doctor’s visit. You go in there, the doctor performs his regular examine and sends you home. The next phone call you get from your doctor is a tragic one. They have just diagnosed you with a disease that has a low survival rate. And so begins the medical treatments. These treatments could last weeks, months, or years, during which you will face some of the most difficult choices. Some of our family members or friends have heard these words before and unfortunately doctors can only do so much to help, and the cost of treatments are on the rise. According to the NY Times, you could be paying up to a million dollars in one year just to pay for treatments, drugs,
Her family and many others wanted her to have an abortion but she wanted to see what would happen, and wanted to take a chance. Well after nine months went by, she had the baby or as you could say - Cheetah/Gorilla/Human…) Stage 5 ------(It was a boy, and they decided to name him Andrew. The young boy grew to be extremely intelligent and athletic. He grew up without his biological father. The only father figure he had in his life was his step dad.)
