Working in a group can be very challenging, but the job must get done. For a semester I worked with a group completing many projects and presentations together. These assignments helped me learn what to expect in the working world, when working with others. I acquired a lot of knowledge about working with groups from this one semester. I mastered the element, conflict, the key to any successful group. Even though my group went through many hard times, we always seemed to get the work done. My group had a large variety of perspectives and beliefs, so that did spark a lot of disagreements. In the first week, my professor separated the class into groups. We all agreed to meet at a restaurant that was pretty close in distance to everyone. When I arrived at the restaurant, Azarely was already there. We waited for about ten minutes to see if everyone else was coming. About thirty minutes later, Whitney showed up. We then called and texted everyone else to see if they were coming, but none of them answered or responded. We went ahead and started to work on the project, even though the rest of our group abandoned us without any notification. The next day we had class together, and the ladies that did not show up had countless excuses. I felt disrespected, because I would have liked if they let us know that they were not coming. Later on that day we meet in the library, to get some work completed. Our first meeting with all us attending did not go very well, because everyone was talking about their personal lives. Now when I look back, it was very important to get to know everyone because it helped us form a bond on a personal level. The social penetration theory made us become closer and understand each other. That day we all agreed to work on separate parts to get the project completed. They can be very dreadful, but you have to be very persistent and hard working. Communication is an important key to any successful group. According to Australasian Medical Journal, a study was done to observe the attitudes of students from Xavier University. The study showed that most students believed good communication skills were required while attending college. Always let your members know how you are feeling in a respectful manner. When you are feeling uncomfortable in a group situation, let your colleagues know. Your group members will never know what is wrong with you, until you express your thoughts and feelings. If you cannot make a group meeting, you have to always let your group members know, because it would be very disrespectful if you do

Normally in a group, the work will be divided into the number of members in the group and may be arranged to each of the members to receive the part where they are more confident and have more knowledge of it. In addition, if a member is confused with their work, he can receive assistance from his teammates rather than just being alone and figure it himself independently. A common pitfall associated with working as a group is disagreement about the way something is being done, a particular issue, or an opinion. Sometimes one member might have his own beliefs and want to perform a task in their way and conflict can arise from this. Once conflict arises, the members can discuss their own opinions and might arrive to a solution, but this can cause a member to not show their full potential because something was not done the way they wanted. I think our group worked well together. We got along nicely and did the work we were supposed to do. During collaboration, what worked was going downstairs or into the collaboration room. It really helped us focus on what we needed to get done. Sometimes, however, we wouldn't do our work and just goof off, but we ended up getting all of our work done on time. In summary, I believe that it is important to fully understand and execute exceptional group skills, because there will be many group projects we must work on together during our time in college. Therefore, we must be able to work with our classmates effectively in order to maintain good grades and acquire the skills we will need in the careers we have chosen. Most businesses are essentially groups of employees that work together to produce the services that their companies provide. Most of us will be required to work closely with co-workers to achieve the goals that our company sets within a certain time frame. We were able to text and call one or two others the night before to discuss about the scenes we would be presenting in class. Johnathon talked to Juno and gave me some input. Johnathon also text Jasmine to asked if she were able to meet us the next morning to review and prepare one last time before class. Julius wasn’t aware the presentation was due but when it was time to present he was well prepared on his part. Jasmine couldn’t make it before class for the meeting because she had car trouble but just like Julius, she was also well prepared. I’m sad that Juno weren’t able to make to class in time to do the presentation with the rest of the group, but he was able to share some insight with Jonathon to contribute to the group. I believe Johnathon was a big help in this presentation. He took the initiative to connect the rest of the group when no one respond on the forum. We were able to text each other and accomplish a good presentation for the class. A week and half before the project deadline, the group was under the impression that one of our members had not completed a specific task in the allotted time agreed upon during a group conversation carried out on our online group chat. As a result, the project leader personally confronted the member and began questioning him. The project leader made some statements about being disappointed in the member not being able to get the part done on time. In addition, he also exclaimed that the member did not care or put any effort into the project. The member then replied by noting that the group message had stated the date of the same day but for the next week. Now upset, the group member stormed out and refused to talk to the project leader.
My experience with working with a group is that the longer you work together, it feels like the people I work with becomes a family. Sometimes we argue; sometimes we pick each other up when things are tough, but we also work together when things need to be accomplished. Getting a new job is always an adventure; normally, I walk through the door on the first day with fresh eyes and a fresh mind. That is exactly how I entered my first day at CVS Pharmacy (later to be known as CVS Health). Because this was my first retail job, it already seemed better than my experiences with the food and beverage industry. For about four years, I had been in and out of the restaurant business and believed that there had to be something a little more relaxed. Obviously, what I was doing was not my calling, which is why I applied to CVS. It had opportunity for advancement and a relaxed atmosphere. A friends’ wife that works for this particular CVS and helped me get my foot in the door. Walking through the double automatic doors, I could see the cashier, who I would later know as Alyssa, smiling at a customer. My “new” manager approached me with a genuine smile. Just the positive atmosphere and environment set the tone of how it would be working here.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
Realizing that a group can become a high performance team is important. Accomplishing this goal is invaluable, advantageous and profitable. Once able to operate from a group to the high performing team is a great step into preparation into the big business world. Leaders and members must also realize not only how to accomplish this but that some problems will and can arise from different demographic characteristics and cultural diversity. That is if one is in such a group, which the probability would be quite high.
The Importance of Group Work in Today's Organizations. It could be argued that in order to be successful, modern organisations must actively develop strong and cohesive work groups. Why do you need to be a member? Is it true that there is no room for the individual in today’s organisation? The rapid progression and improvement in information and communication technology has led to modern organisations finding new ways to work.
First or all, group work is important to help students develop communication. If your students are shy and hate talking to others that they have just met group projects could help your students with communication. How you wonder well if you let them work in groups there have to talk to the others so therefore
Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
This turned out to be the positive group experience for me and other group members. The team was sufficiently strong from the very beginning through the development phase to the end without any incident of conflict and disagreement. Every group member is reliable and understands their roles working in a group. They also understand the significance of progressing collectively towards the shared and common goal. In other words, our group reflected the synergy by the association we held with each other as a team and, thus, reflecting an example of being a successful
