Over the years, women have been key participants in the work force, labor unions, and strikes. Recently, women have taken part in organizing the labor in the maquiladoras in Mexico. The duty-free assembly plants located on the U.S./Mexican border, known as maquiladoras, have threatened and abused their workers and repeatedly ignored the labor laws. Women have begun to take a stand and fight for their rights as well as for their fellow workers.
The Mexican Maquiladoras As a major contributor to the global economy, Mexico’s sweatshops have contributed to the United States’ wealth and economic growth. It is the unfortunate truth that many individual workers have suffered as a result of this prosperity. The sweatshops, known as maquiladoras, are in debate because of the ethical and lawful reasoning behind their existence and conditions. How can we, as a First-world nation, allow such industries to exist where people are denied basic and fundamental human rights? What, if any, laws and regulations are put into place for the maquiladoras?
In 1932 Wilhelm Valentiner commissioned Diego Rivera to construct a fresco to capture the true meaning of Detroit’s Industry. Rivera came to Detroit at a time when the great depression had hit hardest and he used this tumultuous time that had forced it’s way over the city as inspiration for his work. For it to embody the true significance of the industry in Detroit, he began the mural with a piece which symbolized a fruitful harvest, and more importantly, a new beginning. As Rivera progresses with his mural, it is evident what the the commercial meant by experiencing the finer things in life. From the early stages of assembly of the new 1938 Ford V8, to the finishing touches of the exterior and the diversity of the people working on these cars, and finally the negative implications of what technology and economic prosperity can bring. These aspects all encompass what Rivera intended when representing Industry in Detroit, as well as what it means for a city like Detroit to enjoy the finer things in life.

Being determined is the key to survival because the determination is what pushes a person to strive forward and persevere. A person having determination is at the base of a pyramid on the key for survival because you cannot succeed in any goal without being determined. For example, a person who is good at something is good at that thing because they were determined to learn to do it. Many articles and stories such as Caroline Alexander’s “The Voyage of the James Caird”, Grayson Schaffer’s “The Value of a Sherpa Life”, The Writer by Richard Wilbur, and Hugging the Jukebox by Naomi Shihab Nye prove these statements.
For my experience in this field I went in and interview my dad and asked him about something’s that he does around the office and what the big part of his job is and he explicated. I found out that there are very high risks in this job because you are handling people’s money, when sometimes this is the customer’s whole life savings going into your hands to try to make money. This would work well with me because I am very good with numbers which, leads to being really good in math. From the interview I also learned that you have to be a people’s person because most of the job is trying to get people to let you handle their most in return for a commission or a part of the money that will be made. I learned that this job will be me sitting at a desk for most of the day and sometimes sitting down with old customers or new customers deciding what route they want to take with their money. I liked that my dad is very dexterous or skillful.
