At the beginning of English 101 I would say I was not the best writer. I didn’t always place my punctuations in the right places or even use them at all when need and sometimes used overused words because I didn’t have the best word choice. Therefore, I would say throughout this class I definitely have improved with my writings. I learned how to summarize my essays well, use better grammar, how to document my texts, and much more. I have worked on my punctuation usage and word choice and that showed in my papers as we progressed through the semester. My grades on many of my papers may not have increased, remained the same. I learned how to summarize better. I use to believe that in summarizing an essay that I could put quotes in it or use first person singular pronouns. I learned real quick that it was not correct to do it. With that, I changed my first person singular pronouns into third person singular pronouns and took out all the quotes. After, you could tell a huge difference in how my summaries looked. I also use to make my summaries very long and tried to fit everything that was in my paper into a summary, but once I started this course I learned this is not the way a summary should be. I now make my summaries short, sweet and too the point. It doesn’t have everything in it, but summarizes my essay well. I have learned how to use better grammar. When I go through and read my papers that I had written in the past, I can tell a difference in my grammar from then and now. Another thing I learned was how to use better sources and fit quotes in well. I was ok with using outside texts and quotes in my paper and being able to cite it before, but wasn’t all that great at finding the best scholarly sources and reliable popular sources to put in my papers. Essay two helped me with that because it required those kinds of sources. Lastly, I learned how to better document my sources. I never really knew how to cite my sources, but after using Purdue Owl and Easy Bib, I now
