My educational path started out in a very different field years ago. I began in the radiology field with a passion for the medical field. At this point in my life I was in a bad relationship and life took me from college to a divorce and back to working ten hours a day to support my family. With my dream of finishing college out of the picture for a couple of years I move on to a career working on slot machines for a local casino. While I enjoyed working on the machines my body did not. Back in August of 2013 I was in terrible pain and had to go to the hospital. To make a very long story short. I messed up my back, had to have surgery and lost my job before I know it. Knowing I would never be able to handle the physical labor jobs I was trained to perform. I started my educational path again with something I know would not require me to use my body, but my mind. …show more content…
We came up with a plan that fits my needs and physical ability. This gave me hope again to someday support my family.
I started Ivy Tech in the summer of 2014 in the Business Administration field. With hopes that I had chosen the right field for me. After, a short time in classes I know that this was the field for me. I had already not knowingly had some training in my old jobs in some of the aspects of the business field. Then, before I know it I was a college graduate. Graduating in the summer of 2016 with an associate’s degree. Knowing where I was headed next due to a well-planned out path that Ivy tech planned out for me. Where I would go on to Indiana University East for my bachelors. I started Indiana University East in the fall of 2016 in an excelled program that allows one to have their bachelor’s degree in fifteen months. Just starting my educational path in getting my bachelor’s degree, I hope to achieve all that the college and my peers want out of
In the United States, the history of Career and Technical Education evolved within four major periods. First, the Awakening period which began in 1776-1826, when the right to a free public education was expressed. During this era, educational opportunities in labor and industrial education were being demanded. The rising working class began to press for an education that were more appropriate for their labor and industry’s needs (Awakening 1776-1826, 1976). Even Benjamin Franklin who represented the Awakening middle class was on board with the rise of technical and vocational education which were taught primarily by private masters or contracted apprenticeships (Cohen, 1976).
A year and three months ago, I was at football practice. I was on the defensive line. I tripped up the running back, but the running back landed on my left ankle. The result was a fracture on my left tibia. I played on my injury for two weeks. At that moment, I was not able to play football for the rest of the year. During this summer, I injured my back. I began to accumulate information about how to treat my injuries. While I was researching, the words physical therapy popped up. I clicked on them, and the article discussed what a physical therapist does. When I was halfway down the article, it stated that a physical therapist helps people with injuries like mine. After researching, I decided to be a physical therapist.
In 2012 nearly 205,000 people were employed as a physical therapist in the United States. The average salary of a physical therapist in 2012 was $79,860 per year. College was such a big ordeal around this time last year! Many students had no choice but to think about it every day and I was surrounded by friends and classmates thinking about the same thing. Am I sure this is the school for me? Do I really want to move away or just stay near my mom? I even thought to myself, “What about moving out of state?” Everyone was so nervous, and everyone had the right to be. We are all trying to take the next step into moving on after high school. Until April 5th, 2016, my proudest moment was this day. I received acceptance into the Alabama A&M university. It was just a regular day that I had come home to mail from different universities, and my mom and I had applied here already with my mind on going to a predominantly
The way the Tracy handled, and interacted with the patient completely impressed me, and from that day onward, I was certain that physical therapy was the career for me. The aspect of physical therapy that I enjoy the most is working with different patients on rehabbing their injury. With every new patient that walk through the door, come s a exciting new challenge for me to help the patient work to get back to their physical ability they were at before their injury. The aspect of physical therapy that I’m the most worried about is the amount of time I have to spend in college to obtain my degree. Although I don’t mind spending a few extra years in college, in the back of my mind it still worries me a little bit. I can use physical therapy as a reflection of my faith in the way of helping patients who have suffered become healthy again. As Jesus before me helped cure the sick, blind, and taking away the sins of the world by dying on the cross, I plan to the best of my ability help anyone I can recover from an injury that is causing them great pain and suffering in their
Being a young adult, I am continually thinking about my future. Throughout high school, I had been reminded daily to start planning my future, which meant determining a career path for myself. In the hope that I could decide on a career, I began thinking about my motivations and aspirations. Because of both my desire to help others and my strong interest in medicine, I had decided to pursue a career in health care. A career in health care had always interested me, as I wanted to gain knowledge of medicine while also being able to help those in need. One career that would allow me to exercise both these things is a physical therapist. Physical therapists are known for their passion and capability to rehabilitate others, which is
When we talk about education, we remember our teachers of elementary, middle and high school because they left their mark on our lives, and are who we truly taught things that even we , and we have to our knowledge, is that the main purpose of my philosophy educational. The basis of my educational philosophy pragmatism. The goal of education for pragmatists is the socialization of the individual and the transmission of cultural ideas of man to new generations. In this way, new generations have no need to repeat it step by step, the experiences of their ancestors (Riestra, 1970). The school must be active in developing critical thinking in the learner. This should not be a passive entity in the process of their education, you must learn to learn . The school must prepare students for this interaction with their environment that is always changing.
In my household, from the time I was in Kindergarten, my mother expected academic excellence and nothing less. With her help I was an A student, Science fair grand champion, Young authors winner, Community helpers member, Young academic role model and more. At the age of eleven I lost my mother to Invasive Breast Cancer. Being academically successful was her goal for me and up to that point in her life she instilled the values of education and hard work ethic into me. At that young age I had to decide how I was going to continue being academically successful in school and what were my educational goals for myself. Since that day every school year I ask myself that same question, and this year being my senior year it’s more prominent than ever. My short term educational goals are: to apply and be admitted to 4 universities, maintain a 3.7 gpa, pass AP calc and English exam’s with a score of 4 or higher, and graduate with honors.
I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. The career I have chosen to study is business administration. I am hoping that it takes me to a great job managing a company or possibly being an accountant.
So with looking further into all of the different criminal justice paths I could go down and with my love for science I thought being a forensic scientist would be the perfect job. After I’m done with college, my successful will continue. Regardless my main goal is to just be happy, and never have to struggle for anything. But, when I think about my future the first thing I always think about is the car I want. Which is so odd because I should be thinking about a place to live, and a family maybe first, then a car. But no, I want my all white Cadillac CTS. Depending on what year I get enough money to purchase this perfect car, I’m going to want to the newest year. Just so I can have all the newest interior and the technology. I want to one day, have a family and a decent sized house in a big city. I haven’t really decided yet if I either want to go into the FBI or just work for the local police station wherever I decide to live.

Education gives people the competence and skills to pilot the world. It also allows people to provide and contribute to their society and community. Like Nelson Mandela said “ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Similar to our lives, our educational journeys are different from one another. My educational journey was a very complicated journey. My family and mentors supported me, so was able to overcome those obstacles. The biggest motivation that got me through this journey was my father’s courage and love for education.
The word "career" has a couple of different, but related, meanings in the context of career development. One way we define career is as an individual's vocation or trade, or how he or she makes a living. Given this meaning, it is used interchangeably with the word "occupation." Examples of careers or occupations are engineer, accountant and veterinarian. When experts talk about career choice they are usually referring to someone deciding what he or she wants to do to make a living.
