My Dream of Becoming an Attorney
After graduating from high school I was ambivalent about going to college. In high school I was not a very motivated student, but I knew I possessed the ability to be successful academically, given the proper encouragement. I chose Suffolk County Community College's Selden campus as my springboard into higher education. At Suffolk I developed the academic skills necessary to excel at the university level. The work was very challenging at times, but the faculty was very involved with their students. I became very fond of this atmosphere and decided to find a university with similar qualities. Small classes, an environment conducive to learning, and a welcoming atmosphere were high on my list of priorities, and Adelphi University's Garden City campus possessed these qualities.
My experience at Adelphi has been extraordinarily enlightening. Adelphi has small classes and caring faculty, which made the transition from a community college to a university very comfortable. The work is challenging at times, but it is also intellectually stimulating-the combination contributes to my academic success.
I have a strong desire to study law after graduating from Adelphi, and one of the best academic decisions I made was to major in political science. Everyone in the political science department, from the chairperson down, has been an important asset to my education. Adelphi's political science department is not only blessed with highly qualified professors, but it also hosts special events that complement my coursework and stimulate my interests in this field. Some of these events included luncheons with foreign ambassadors, as well as a dinner with an advisor to four former United States presidents.
In “Cathedral” by Raymond Carver, a blind man named Robert help Bub, a person unable to understand or place the feelings of others in front of his own , open his eyes and realize how to consider others feelings. In the story, Robert comes to to visit Bub’s wife after his wife passes away. Bub is not looking forward to his encounter with Robert. As the story progresses, Bub is forced to interact with Robert in ways that seem foreign to him. Bub’s difference interactions with Robert builds up to the both of them drawing a cathedral together, which leads to Bub being changed and him placing Roberts points of view ahead of his own. Bub believes the world revolves around himself and lacks the ability to consider others feeling ahead of his own,
I should be selected to attend Georgia’s Governor’s Honors Program because I have a true passion for my subject area, social studies, specifically government. I enjoy watching the local and national news, learning about political, foreign, social, and economic issues, and staying up to date on the current activities of Congress and our politicians. I have developed a particular interest in the presidential candidates and upcoming election. This interest lead me to attend an event in Savannah in which I was able to listen to Senator Bernie Sanders, a Democratic candidate whose plans and policies have appealed to me, give a speech and further discuss his ideas for his campaign and potential presidency. This passion for social studies, specifically government, which I realized because of my AP Government
A challenge that all seniors face at the end of their high school career is the decision that will shape the rest of their future. Will it be Harvard, Ivy Tech, or a job at the nearest fast food joint? Of course, there is nothing wrong with not going to college, but for the people of society who plan to marry and have at least three children, it is almost essential. After making this decision, the seniors who choose to attend college must then decide which one. Campus size, housing, nearby activities, and available degrees and study programs are all important traits to consider when searching for the perfect college.
Around the age of five, I was introduced to my first college campus experience. I went to a close cousins graduation ceremony, and she showed me around the school. From that day forward I always knew that I wanted to achieve academic success. I have already started taking great strides toward reaching my goals, and I am a strong believer that Rutgers will be a great stepping stone in helping me move forward. I choose Rutgers University because it possesses a myriad of things that a student who is interested in a vast campus, diversity, and campus involvement such as myself can use to my advantage. I will be going in as a criminal justice student. I know Rutgers has a very high rated criminal justice program that will make me a competitive candidate post graduation. The academic excellence Rutgers University possesses will not only aid me while in school, but long after I graduate.
In truth, I originally wanted to apply to Aurora University because of the location and its convenience. After I researched the program and attended an open house I knew this decision was a good one. The three year part time program stood out to me because it fits in well with my current schedule. When I came to campus the atmosphere immediately felt welcoming and the faculty acted as if they truly cared about my future. Unlike other universities, the faculty gave life advice as opposed to advice just to recruit students to their program. I can see myself in the Masters of Social Work program at Aurora University and being happy while pursuing my
7. I’m not quite sure what topic I want to write about for my senior thesis but will revolve around American politics, I have been considering a few specific areas including foreign policy, voter suppression, as well as constitutional interpretation. I’m not sure where I want to go yet but for voter suppression specifically in the 2016 election as many states had enacted tougher voting laws and I would be interested in working with Dr. Nadine Koch from the political science department as she is really the one that was giving me ideas, and this one I remember very clearly, along with a professor from the History Department Dr. Dawn Dennis as she teaches many courses on race and American history. For foreign policy, specifically middle eastern
An argument that most people have is that the emergency contraception pill is an "abortion pill," and should not be used to combat teen pregnancy. This assumption is not an accurate one. The emergency contraception pill is not anything like the RU-486 pill, which is known as the "abortion pill." The way the RU-486 works, is when taken a chemical abortion occurs (Mathewes-Green 1). The pill can be taken up to 63 days from the first day of a woman's period. The way the RU-486 forces an abortion is when the pill is taken i...
As the end of my senior year in high school approached, I had to make an important decision. What school was I going to spend the next few years of my life at? When the financial aid packages arrived, I was torn between two colleges. After sitting down with my mother and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of both schools, I came to my final decision. It seemed like a year ago I was imagining what college life would be like and suddenly before my eyes, I would be a college student in a matter of four months.
As a young woman growing up in an urbanized setting and attending public schools all of my life, when the time came to start planning and searching for colleges, I searched for schools that I felt fit my persona, that I would be comfortable attending for some of the most integral years of my life. My search included schools such as Temple University, and Pennsylvania State University, higher education institutions that allowed me to challenge myself, but at the same time would put me in a setting where I would be with others just like myself, fitting into the standard American university fashion.
Becoming a Lawyer Loving to argue, speak, and to persuade/convince, I have chosen to research the career of a lawyer. I have always been intrigued by the audacity and wit that lawyers have naturally. I will explain the steps in order to be on the right path in order to become a lawyer. While attaining a degree in your undergraduate studies, you must select a major that will be of some assistance and relevance to your particular law career. For example, if you want to be a corporate lawyer, you should major in business or if you want to be a judge, you should major in political science.
Pornography on the Internet and the ease at which it can be accessed has been a very controversial issue, especially in the last ten years. The Internet was largely unregulated until 1996 when the Communication Decency Act, a portion of the Telecommunications act, was proposed. The Communication Decency Act, or the CDA, made it illegal to make or solicit any image or message that was “obscene” or “indecent”. (Wekesser 106), But how do we define terms with an ambiguity such as these. The Court in Miller-constructed the modern definition of “obscene”: The basic guidelines of the trier of fact must be must be: (a) whether “the average person, applying contemporary community standards” would find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient...
Selecting a career is the most important decision in a person’s life. The Health care industry has a good future in the United States of America. According to the American Department of Labor, the Medical assistant is one of the fastest growing health care professions. I have always been inclined towards health care and therefore I decided to be a medical assistant. To become a medical assistant one should possess different qualities. But the most important quality is to be a very responsible person.
I want to become a lawyer because I’ve always been interested in the occupation and I want to help people. To be more specific I want to be a prosecutor. I used to watch shows such as Criminal Minds and Law and Order and I also watched the news. While watching the news, I began to think that not all criminals are getting caught, and they are starting to do more and more things to damage the world. I can’t stand thinking that people are doing horrible things and thinking its okay. I want to be able to put those people in prison where they belong.
My aspiration for my future legal career is to become a solicitor. This is despite the competition and entry difficulties this sector is known for, which I will address later on. In a practical sense there are two entry routes, which is either through the LPC (1 year course) and then a 2-year training contract or Cilex fast track and 3 years qualifying employment . The Cilex route is to become a legal executive rather than a solicitor. However, the job description of the two is similar and it is possible to transfer . The main reason I consider the Cilex route is mainly due to funding issues, as this route offers lower cost of 3000 £ and the ‘learn as you earn’ principle. The LPC costs are estimated around 10000 £ , which on top of the current fees is a big investment in a future without a job guarantee. In relation to the actual sector, I wish to work in I am still unsure, but I currently aspire towards commercial law. As, for more practical things, the general deadline for applying for a spring/summer vacation work schemes is on
Career as a lawyer is very respectful as they serve to maintain the law and order. They are responsible for providing justice to the innocent and punishment to the offenders. Career as Lawyer on one side is challenging and risky but on the other side, it is prestigious and honorable as well.
