I should be selected to attend Georgia’s Governor’s Honors Program because I have a true passion for my subject area, social studies, specifically government. I enjoy watching the local and national news, learning about political, foreign, social, and economic issues, and staying up to date on the current activities of Congress and our politicians. I have developed a particular interest in the presidential candidates and upcoming election. This interest lead me to attend an event in Savannah in which I was able to listen to Senator Bernie Sanders, a Democratic candidate whose plans and policies have appealed to me, give a speech and further discuss his ideas for his campaign and potential presidency. This passion for social studies, specifically government, which I realized because of my AP Government …show more content…
However, I have had the privilege to be a part of my school’s Model United Nations team, where I/in which I collaborate with and discuss our world’s most pressing issues with other students. The opportunity to attend Governor’s Honors Program is a chance to further my skills both in working individually and collaborating with students in a subject area that I am likely to pursue a career in. I believe that Governor’s Honors Program gives students opportunities to learn and grow that cannot be attained in a regular school classroom; and these opportunities will give me knowledge and skills necessary to achieve my goals. I hope to attend this program because it will benefit me in a variety of ways and make a lasting impact on my academic decisions, from preparing me to attend a high level university, to providing me with insight and experience in this particular subject area, therefore aiding me to pursue a career in this field of
It is a tremendous honor to be considered for membership in the most prestigious Honor Society available at Wapato High School. It is even more grand to be able to work towards enrollment in the Society side by side with such an astoundingly gifted group of young men and women. I am only being considered for potential membership in the National Honors Society because I have demonstrated an exemplary academic attitude, and have proven this through the grades I have attained during the years I have spent in the Wapato School District and the fondness amongst my teachers I have achieved. There are also other characteristics besides good scholarship I must fill for membership in the Society, those being services I have done to benefit others in the community, leadership positions I have held, and an original and interesting demonstration of
With wonderful learning opportunities, a team of sharp and intelligent classmates and teachers, and specialized equipment, the Governor’s School at Innovation Park is the ultimate dream of all determined math/science devotees. With my natural curiosity for mathematics and science and eagerness to take on challenging ideas, I can collaborate with the team at Governor’s School to develop our wide spectrum of ideas and abilities into a highly sophisticated product.
Being a potential candidate of the National Honor Society is a distinction that I greatly honor. I wish to be a member of the prestigious group for the various benefits to myself, my school, and my community. A member of my family was a former member of the National Honor Society; he has mentioned many positive benefits of being a member and how being a member is beneficial to the community. Due to my exemplary qualities of a National Honor Society member, I am qualified to be part of the chapter.
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
Walt Disney once said, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” What are aspirations? Aspirations are ambitious desires. For example, when I mature into a woman, I aspire to be a corporate lawyer. A corporate lawyer practices law confined to the legal affairs of a corporation. Corporate lawyers advise individuals on how to operate business concerns while remaining inside the margins of legality. They also defend clients who find themselves the subject of lawsuits or criminal charges from their business activities. A corporate lawyer might be in private practice representing many corporate or business clients, or employed by one firm to work solely on their behalf. Corporate lawyers specialize in multiple aspects of the law and how it pertains to their business. This can include contracts and negotiations, securities and tax law, code compliance, intellectual property, bankruptcy, financial reporting, and a whole host of other specializations. I plan to become a corporate lawyer, achieving short term career goals, lawyers are beneficial to society in various ways, participating in the 2014 Shadow an Executive Program will aid me with deciding my career decisions, and spending time with an individual in my field of work will also help with learning more about law.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be considered for the Intermountain Administrative Fellowship. I’ve had the great privilege of working at Intermountain for nearly five years, and I have enjoyed the culture and people I have been able to work with. I would like to identify three career goals related to population health, and two related to the development of Intermountain Healthcare.
For me to describe my ideal honors course is imperative in the process of taking these courses and succeeding. It is the responsibility of every student to do so in order to bring about the greatest outcome one may achieve. I believe that for this to happen, one has to identify a few things; one's own definition of an Honors Course, what objectives do these honor courses hold , how does the course subject interactions between the student and the teaching institute, and what outcome are you looking to achieve. By recognizing these few things, one may come to the conclusion of what an Honors Course.
Hillsdale College a nonsectarian Christian institution, teaches the learning of societal morals through the liberal arts program as a means to perpetuate the civil and religious liberties that God has given to the United States of America. The backbone of the precepts held by our founding fathers can primarily be traced to Athens and Jerusalem. The moral precepts of our founding fathers were primarily rooted in Judeo-Christian beliefs found in the Bible. These moral precepts find their manifestation in the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments reveal the depravity of the human heart, with this in mind, the founding fathers looked to create a system of checks and balances to counteract this propensity to evil. To accomplish this, our founders turned to the philosophies of the ancients primarily the Greeks. The
I have participated in the school’s marching band for four years has a member of the color guard. The last two years I have even earned a leadership position. From being in marching band, I have learned the ability to look for a bigger picture in things. For instance, something that may not seem clear now may take a true shape in time. I have also gained working experience through my two lifeguarding jobs from the last three years. I have learned how “size up” a situation and see how to properly deal with a problem. I have also learned, through both commitments, how to time manage myself and both achieve in activity/work and in school. I believe that through these experiences, I can bring a different perspective to the Honors Program’s community and help better it in any way possible.
Often I feel like I do not belong. Growing up in rural southeastern North Carolina, I admit that I have a peculiar accent, I had an abnormal upbringing and I have an odd perspective. I did not have an abundance of close friends. Isolated, I resided in a town that was half an hour from the nearest grocery store. I am not here to complain about what I did not achieve or did not have the opportunity to pursue, rather expound upon the unique opportunities that were available to me and how my ambition has driven me to apply to this prestigious graduate program. It is my hope that my fondness of public history and aspirations in the involvement in this domain will ultimately leave a lasting impact on myself and most importantly, in this field.
My father once told me that the greatest men in history were those who showed their uniqueness through their intelligence those worked to not only improve but to insure a culture of compassion and courage was left behind. Those who could think unique at a higher level than their peers leaders like W.E.B. Du Bois who I have come to highly respect, they left a culture and way of thinking that was unique. I would like to make a difference in this world and dedicate myself to the greater good of humanity. I Kenneth Gathimbi feel that furthering my education at a higher level will help me achieve this goal and a degree in political science would further my understanding on how to serve the people as a public servant. I come from a diverse background
With God’s help the Biblical leaders Ezra and Nehemiah were able to fulfill their roles as leaders in the Jewish community. These men of God were chosen to be leaders to pray for the Israelites, relay Gods commands and encourage the people. As God’s leaders Ezra and Nehemiah carried out their respective duties even if fierce opposition awaited them.
Successful leaders must be skilled in asking their team members questions that will provide useful answers. As stated “If people aren’t giving you helpful answers to your questions, maybe your asking the wrong questions” (Dennis, 2011, para. 1). Questions are essential in keeping a project on track, and are used to help identify any issues or constraints that could affect the outcome of the project. If a leader fails to ask questions they will not know if the project faces any challenges. If the project is facing a challenge, the number one question to ask is “Can we fix it” (Pink, 2010, para. 4). Leadership and management will be unable to help resolve issues if they don’t that they exist. The only way to know if their project is facing any challenges is simply by asking the right questions.
