The internet has exploded within the last fifteen years tagging along the necessity of computers and computing related devices. Everything from social media sites, to televisions, smartphones, and even microwave ovens are made operational by source codes. Because of the expansion of technology I have chosen to go down the path of Computer Science. Computer Science is the scientific and practical approach to computers and their applications. Although I don’t exactly know what I want to do in the future, I know that there will always be a need for people that are “tech-savvy”. I attend Cedar Hill Collegiate High School which is a school that strictly prepares the attending students for college. Throughout my collegiate experience I have gone through many obstacles that have both hindered and affected my success at collegiate, for example, procrastination. Sophomore year I found myself always one step behind. By doing homework assignments and even projects late, I found myself losing sleep, studying time, and free time. The habits …show more content…
that I created for myself not only lead to many incomplete and late assignments, but it also prevented me from showing my full potential as a collegiate student. As the year went on I realized the academic downfall that I was setting myself up for and started maturing as a collegiate student. I improved my study habits by minimizing the distractions around me such as the television, computer, and my cellular device, which became the base of the change and improved my study habits. Because of my academic realization my collegiate experience changed for the better.
I started doing my assignments beforehand which lead me to more time to study and because of this my grades improved drastically. Not only did I have more time to study, but I also had time to form dedicated study groups which made a huge impact because I placed myself around other students that were on task and wanted to be just as successful as I did. Procrastination made me believe that I could put assignments off because I thought that I would have a reasonable amount of time to complete the assignment. My sophomore collegiate experience really opened my eyes and made me realize that with the help of my fellow students, family, and hard work and determination I can become successful. There has always been someone to help me throughout my collegiate experience, but there is one main person that has been a great influence on my
life. The one person that has influenced my life would be my mother. My mother is a great influence on me because she is the strongest person that I know. My mother has gone through many trials and tribulations yet she continues to push through and live life. I admire my mother for her strength and independence and for pushing me to be the best that I can be. My mother is the main person in my life that is constantly encouraging me in anything I do. Whenever I want to give up my mom is always there too let me know that if I try my hardest at whatever I do I can succeed. I have always thought of my mother as strong and independent. As I was growing up I learned to be independent from my mother. She has always taught me if I want something or need something done I have to learn to do it for myself. I have learned so much from my mother because she continues to teach that strength and independence are important in life and that I can never stop pursing what I want to do. I am very thankful for the support that I receive from my mother.
Living in a modern society, technology continues to advance in ways that many would think impossible many years ago. Technology continues to aid the human race in many ways; such as making communication possible across continents within seconds, helping develop new medicines for previously incurable diseases, and completely tasks that would take hours to do by hand. However, technology does not just develop on its own as an intelligent being, but it continues to be molded by those that work in the field of computer science, computer engineering, and computer programming. Each level of the computerized fields has its own field of work, and each aids technology advancement in its own way. Computer programmers train to correctly perform their duties, understand the tools and language, and sharpen their personal qualities. Becoming a computer programmer is not an easy task and takes eons to perfect, as the code is forever changing to adapt to our needs.
If the nineteenth century was an era of the Industrial revolution in Europe, I would say that computers and Information Technology have dominated since the twentieth century. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood. After my twelfth grade, the inherent ardor I held for Computer Science motivated me to do a bachelors degree in Information Technology. Programming and Math, a paragon of logic and reasoning, have always been my favorite subjects since childhood.
Study habits have been proven to make or break a college student. Preparation is key when approaching academics. Time management is very important when it comes to academics. Some students are faced with balancing a job, school, and in some cases having kids. Prioritizing school helps with staying on track and gaining success in college. Based on observing a single mother I know became overwhelmed with school, work, and keeping food on the table for her family. What helped her out the most was a positive attitude, taking on one problem at a time, and only focusing on things she could control. This mindset is what helped her to gain a college degree and support her family. When students don’t prioritize their time, they are more likely to cram all their work last minute since they wasted all their time on tasks with little to no importance such as partying, video games, procrastinating,
College students have to balance work, family, and college activists and any delaying behavior from within can cause an unbalance. This behavior is called procrastinating and it can lead to problems in many areas of a student’s life. College students are the worst hit by this type of behavior because they have many different activities to focus on instead of studying. These activities can cause students to study when they have time which often is usually too short amount of time. There is a time and place to relax and enjoy life, but if students focus on playing around instead of getting their assignments done, college life will be stressful.
Although I have just started college I know what some of my strengths are and some areas of improvement. I have developed a good work ethic all thanks to the military, however I have been out of the school mentality for quite some time. I could schedule my classes to have more time in between classes. I have no problem asking questions or sitting in the front row of a classroom. I could create a plan to set my study schedule instead of taking time whenever available. I already write all over my textbooks and I write in my notes when I have a question or connection to the material. There are strategies to use in order to be successful in college and there are certain things to avoid doing to be successful in college.
Computer science and programming as a whole has helped shape the world already, impacting education, trade, economics, communication and other aspects of our day to day lives. The rise in technology is inevitable and this is what makes computer programming a hugely appealing subject to
I believe that I can succeed in college level classes because I have the ability to work hard as well as the resilience to complete tasks that are assigned. Throughout my education, I have not failed a class, nor have I earned anything less than a C. Once I start with something I have to push through and finish it, even if it means putting in extra time and effort. I know that being a post secondary student will be challenging, however I feel that I have the resilience to be successful. Though only a sophomore in high school, I have worked hard in many areas of my life, not only to be a better student, but to be a better person. In the past year and a half, my grades have improved, my faith has grown stronger, and I have matured tremendously.
Computer Science is a popular major with one of the brightest spots in the employments of current society as the world is becoming more and more advanced. People who graduate with a computer science degree are considered computer scientist; Computer scientists use technologies like computers, smart phones, and basic knowledge and reasoning to solve whatever problems they encounter. Computer Science Engineers write software programs that allow machines to do new things or improve tasks more efficiently; programs like Facebook, Twitter, and mobile messaging software have improved many people’s lives with easier and simpler ways of communication. Current popular software, such as Microsoft Office, email services, and web browsers like Firefox,
College can be challenging, so I believe you have to set some goals, better study habits and learn how to manage your time. You have to set goals that are workable, positive, realistic, measurable, and controllable (Reynolds, 25). You have to maintain a positive attitude toward your assignment and schooling. In doing so, you will boost your drive for doing what you need to be done, as well as, becoming realistic with trying to achieve your set goals. The goals that you set have to be measurable, and controllable, which will provide you with enough time to correct
The fact that growth in computer science and electronics has made our life so much different and easier, than it was a decade ago has always inspired me to create things and come up with methods that minimize human effort and increase the overall efficiency. Over my 4 years of undergraduate study I have realized that, to chase my dream of creating something that revolutionizes our way of living I must contribute towards a field that has had the greatest impact on our lives. And this realization that has inspired me to pursue a master’s degree in the field Computer engineering from prestigious University of Chicago which is known for its research in fields that are already making our lives easier
Time management is the key to becoming a successful college student. When college students don’t manage their time wisely, it will slip by them and before they know it, there work is due the next morning and they’re pulling an all-nighter to get it done. Lack of time management leads to procrastination and the great Wayne Gretzky said “Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is heavy.” Many students that attend a college or university will experience the freshman slump during their first year of attending school. College students go in with the notion
One takes to college with them more knowledge on what it takes to be successful and having the idea that the future was right around the corner. I was putting in less effort to make an A on every assignment and test. It makes significant difference just paying attention in class as opposed to talking to friends or playing on a phone. Half way through my junior year I became good friends with a guy named Nick Barrera. Having a mom that is a teacher he had very high standards for himself making all A’s in honors classes. Quickly I began to look up to Nick academically. He mentioned one day in gym that he was going to essentially skip senior year and go to college in a dual enrollment program where he would be getting credits for his senior year to graduate and getting credits for college. Knowing at this point it would be beneficial for me to do this programs, I began studying for the test to get into the program. Night after night of studying the test was in only a week. Knowing that going to the test with all of the knowledge that was available would greatly increase my chances of passing. On the day of the test I walked in with confidence and a ready mindset. Passing this test was a huge accomplishment, now knowing that if one puts in more effort, success would be
During the first few days of my first semester of college, I felt overwhelmed to the point where I kept asking myself, “What am I still doing here?” However, my views on my journey in college have developed positively. My EDUC 1300 class has taught me many tips to becoming a successful student, and now I am motivated to accomplish my goals in the future. I found that my strengths are to be open minded, have hope, and be positive. Throughout the years that I have been in school, studying and prioritizing have never been something I was good at. Now that I am somewhat accustomed to the college environment, I have begun to study at least one hour per day or in between my free time. On the other hand, to prioritize, I put my education first and
Computer engineering is the lovechild of electrical engineering and computer science: “separate, but intimately related,” (Soldman 4). What is computer engineering, and what distinguishes it from its electrical engineering and computer science forefathers? What do kinds of jobs are available to them? What kinds of problems do they solve? These questions seek relatively superficial answers—just a couple words or sentences could suffice—but answering these questions is what will make us cognizant of this field’s importance. So to grasp how important computer engineers are in today’s society, we must understand what a computer engineer is and does.
Computer Science is many things: engineering, math, science, art. The field is diverse; from coding robots who can map the bottoms of oceans to animating digital characters for Disney’s next film, computing has immersed itself in virtually every area and concentration of career. The idea of computing itself exists in both the physical and theoretical world, requiring abstract and concrete thinking to fully understand it. But what exactly makes computer science what it is? What specifically makes an profession that has been around for less than a century one of the most integral parts of modern society? The discipline’s definitions, though varied, exemplify how computer science has evolved from an obscure discovery in the 1940s to a now prominent
