Overall, movement in the music classroom is stimulating both musically and non-musically. Movement allows for the socialization of the children with new kids they may not speak to or see often. Collaboration amongst the children is also a learned skill as many of the movement and dances are group or partner work. Also, the social temperature of the classroom is changed from a sit down lecture to a fast paced environment when dance is added, allowing a good reward for good behavior. Musically, movement has many benefits. Pulse and rhythm are obvious qualities that are learned. Phrasing is another big vocabulary word as well and is hidden with in the eight or four count steps in the dance.

Basically any movement outside of your personal space is effective. This could include forward, backwards, high, medium, low, sideways, and many more. The element of time encompasses the time signature, pulse, duration and attacks. Movement in the body parts of fast and/or slow, as well as pat clap clap to show a triple meter can be used. Finally, dances or activities with making yourself heavy or light can express the element of energy.

3. At what age would action songs be appropriate for use with children? Singing game? An action song is focused on the free play movement. Due to this concept, actions songs can be started early on continue on until fifth grade. Singing games are appropriate after a young one gets their singing voice under control. First grade is a good time to start these games and can again be continued until around grade five.

4. List musical goals for teaching folk dance to children. How would they differ from the goals of a physical education instructor who teachers folk dancing? Folk dances in the music classroom differ from that of the physical education classroom. In PE class, the teacher may have the goal be to master the movements of the dance. In the music classroom, the melody, phrasing, and rhythmic patterns can be analyzed. Music teachers might also go in depth about the lyrics ad meaning of the song so they can bring that knowledge back to social
