It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” (Plato) Plato emphasized that music can give you all kinds of thoughts and feelings about anything in life. Individuals who practice or teach music are known to be very intelligent people because music influences people to focus on things better and be very successful. Music helps people stay in school and out of doing bad things because it gives students a reason to stay in school, a chance to meet new people, and band directors can teach a lot on life. When researching the career of music education, it is important to include the history, skills, education, positive, and negative aspects of the profession.

“A degree in music theory, music composition, or conducting is generally preferred for those who want to work as a conductor or classical composer. To enter these programs, applicants are typically required to submit recordings, audition in person, or both. These programs teach students about music history and styles, as well as composing and conducting techniques. Information on degree programs is available from the National Association of Schools of Music.” (Occupational Outlook Handbook). One main and obvious skill that you need is you must be musically inclined. You can’t just go into this career without knowing how keep a tempo or how to write music. You must also be disciplined because “Talent is not enough for most music directors and composers to find employment in this field. They must constantly practice and seek to improve their technique and style.” (Occupational Outlook Handbook). These are the skills and requirements necessary to becoming a Music Education
When asked to choose skills, I selected performing arts, problem solving, and speaking, all of which I would use in a career as a music educator. I also selected creativity, independence and prestige as the most important values to me. Again, these values are all applicable in a career in music education.

Nothing lasts forever. Everything, whether good or bad has to come to an end. But people do say that sounds and voices do not die. Melodies we hear in our life lives on for generations and ever after. No matter who we are or wherever we come from; in whichever situation we were in, at some point of our lives, we have come across certain melodies that still live in our heart. And I am no different from others. There are certain musical pieces that have not only influenced my life, but have made a significant impact to change me for the better.
Whether the student is a beginner, or someone who has studied music for a number of years, the way in which one views oneself as a musician can be an important factor in the kinds of experiences one has with music. A quality music education is one that challenges students to set clear and achievable goals, think musically and critically, and apply what one has learned in a meaningful way. If a musician harbors a negative view of his or her musical abilities, the lasting effects of this view on his or her musical experiences and achievement could be challenging to overcome.
In order to help spark that passion inside of others I must accomplish my first goal of obtaining my bachelor 's degree in music education and gaining my teaching endorsement for K-12. I intend on accomplishing this goal by attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha starting the fall semester of 2016. After attending UNO for 4 to 5 years I will begin my search for a high school instrumental music employment opportunity. Once I am employed I will be able to begin fueling the fire of passion in some students.
You have common titles such as dentist, teacher, physical therapist, doctor, or accountant but then there's music therapy, a not so common job. If i were to tell you i wanna be a musician you'd understand what i wanna do. If i were to tell you i wanna be a therapist you would also understand what i wanna do. However when I say I want to become a music therapist not many people can understand what it is and why I wanna do it. To put it simply I love music and love helping people in a way not many people can. While doctors have medicine and psycho therapist have their words, music therapist have music. Something not many people are born to do while others just have the music in them. It is something Ive researched for a year or so and fell completely in love

All these responsibilities require ability in music, some experience , combined with a thorough knowledge of music and music theory. It also requires music and sound production in a recording studio along with a key sense of listening. Some music producers work for record labels producing for recording artists under a contract which has very exact wantings for that artist. And while many are full-time employees, others are self-employed. Which means they must also have experience in running a business.

To satisfy my interest in learning about music and how to play musical instruments, I had to find a source of education other than school; a great depiction in agreement with Graff’s claim that students are being limited by not considering their interests when creating curricula (Graff 197). In conclusion, education is broader than just falling into what the contemporary school system has to offer. Both Gatto and Graff proved this by explaining how conforming students to certain perspectives of education limits their potential in other educational branches that interest the students.
Becoming a music conductor is a very competitive task. A future conductor must have an early childhood musical experience. It might involve learning how to play music on an instrument. Then they must develop many types of skills involving a controlled behavior. They also have to job shadow a conductor that has a professional status. Next they must have a (“Masters degree in music theory, composition or conducting”). To be able to get inside at good music program is held with a strict audition (BLS). While in school they must develop purpose and operation of every musical instrument in the ensemble (Wisegeek).
Music education plays an enormous role in student’s overall well being, outweighing the costs of it. In 1994, Congress passed the Improving America’s Schools Act, concluding that “...the arts are forms of understanding and ways of knowing that are fundamentally important to education” (Ford, AdamMcMahon, Maureen). Congress recognized the importance of music education. Now the effort must be made to make a difference. If people really do want the best for the future, music education is key. Ramon Cortines, former chancellor of the New York City public schools stated, “We engage in the arts, we ought to teach the arts, because this is part of what it means to be human” (“Arts Education”). When people eventually realize this, the benefits will be vast.
I want to help create a better infrastructure (quite possibly with the help of blockchain technology) that labels can adopt so that musicians can get paid more easily and accurately. I want to provide resources for aspiring artists so that they can focus more on the process of creating music, as opposed to constantly worrying about what bills are due next week. Being from China, I also want to help create a more regulated, well-structured music industry for my home country. I knew I needed to learn more about the ins and outs of the music industry, and that is why I’ve decided to apply to attend graduate school at Northeastern. Many Courses in the Music Industry Leadership program, such as Intellectual Property for Music Management and Advanced Licensing Techniques for Music Management, will be very helpful in achieving my professional goals.
The process of choosing a career is, many times, a difficult decision. Many factors must be taken into account while deciding a career. Such factors usually include pay, work environment, and most importantly, what the person is interested in. Becoming a musician would be a highly fulfilling career for the reasons of broadening one’s musical abilities, people enjoying something that an individual made, and traveling the country, possibly even the world, for musical opportunities such as teaching, performing, and writing.
