My Motivation for Earning a Degree
With a projected graduation date of February 2017 from Western Governors University, I have never been more motivated or passionate to earn a BS in Business Management. When I visualize myself with a diploma in my hands, I feel such excitement giving me the enthusiasm to stay focused on my goal of graduating. All the obstacles ' life has thrown at me, gave me the motivation to complete my degree for my pride, to set an example for my future children, reach my goals and dreams, and advance in my career path.
The obstacles I have encountered started when I accepted a position as a receptionist for an insurance company, in 2008. Like always, I put all my effort into being the best I could be. This resulted with a promotion to a full-time office manager and earned two insurance licenses certifying me as an insurance agent all within my first year. After about two years as a passionate and dedicated certified insurance agent and office manager, my boss decided to take advantage of my work efforts by demanding more work

The author believes that goals and desires require an individual to be motivated to move from one state of being to the next. This motivation encompasses the emotional, cognitive, social, and biological drives that trigger behavior (Maslow, 1943). Accordingly, the word motivation befalls the frequently used description of why an individual achieves a goal, and the term motivation originates from the Latin root movere, which means “to move.” Therefore, motivation stands as the state that “moves” an individual to act in a particular way. For instance, when one is lying on the beach on a warm summer day and begins to feel hot, the physical need to cool down might cause one to stand up, go to the water for a dip. If the heat remains too over-bearing,
My college career started with me just going to school to take PE classes while neglecting my main required core classes and always pushing them aside without any urgency to succeed in finishing school. A couple of years would go by with little to no progress and lack of motivation to succeed in finishing my college required classes. Soon landing a career oriented job and finding myself dropping out of college to focus on my work career. From this point and time I would learn the importance of school and the value of finish college through my years of experience at work. This awareness of value in finishing college would motivate me to want to go back to school. Soon I would find myself at American River College counseling center. Here I was coming back to school unsure of myself and in an environment where I previously never found success in school. After meeting with my counselor I was recommended to take a college success course. This course is part of a program called the Accelerated College Education (ACE). Because I was able to learn along the years being out of school the importance of gaining an education I gained a new motivation for school, signed up for this ACE program, and enroll in the college success
I re-enrolled into BCC switched my major and took some more challenging science courses in order to test and better prepare myself for future endeavors. I was able to achieve the Dean’s list back to back semesters and graduated in December of 2014. With an associates degree in one-hand and student debt in the other, I was now at cross-roads decision on whether to try to simply advance myself in the workforce with a liberal arts degree or press on to higher
It was at the community college I decided to major in accounting. I took an accounting class and received an A. I finally believed that I found my calling of pursuing a career to be an accountant. I enjoyed helping others and being an accountant would benefit financially. The journey that I have lived has been very difficult. It has been almost 6 years since I received my undergraduate degree. In the fall of 2011 I began my on my certification to file personal income taxes with H&R Block. It was a great opportunity to network with other tax preparers and gain knowledge from them. The position as a Tax Specialist was a great experience, but the position was only seasonal. I worked until April 2012 with H&R Block, then I was offered a position with The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, a state agency. The Office was in Arlington, Texas. As a Tax Compliance Officer I dealt with the collection of delinquent taxes. I was promoted to an analyst position in 2014. For this position I interpreted tax statutes, rules, and publications to taxpayers by telephone. This position was in Austin, Texas. I commuted from McGregor, Texas to Austin for 9 months. I almost finalized a mortgage of buying a home but the process was not able to go forward because I became ill with a stomach ulcer. Being in an office setting took its toll on my body. I decided to resign from the
One of the many opportunities we have in the United States today is access to an education. I believe that being educated by teachers is very important. There are many benefits for pursuing a college degree. A few valuable advantages of higher education are African-Americans (and other minorities), like me, are able to be educated, job security, and a great salary. When I was growing up, my mom always let my siblings and I know the importance of education. For example, if I did not know the meaning of a word, my mom would say, “Look it up in the dictionary.” This taught me to read and research information instead of asking my mom for the answer. Every summer my brother, sister and I always participated in the Children’s Summer Reading Program at the Kalamazoo Public Library. My mom
I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. The career I have chosen to study is business administration. I am hoping that it takes me to a great job managing a company or possibly being an accountant.
Educational Goals: Education is extremely important part of my past, present, and future goals. I currently hold an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design Media. I have found that an A.A.S Degree does not go as far al I originally intended in the Rochester, MN area and furthering my education will be a necessity for my future career goals. Over the past 2 years I have been working on my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the Minnesota School of Business Rochester campus. I am currently a senior with 3 quarters left before a spring graduation. After a June graduation, I plan on taking a summer quarter break. After summer break I will either continue on at MSB for my Masters in Business Administration with a Minor in Marketing or transferring the University of Minnesota for my Masters in Adult Education. After my Masters Degree is complete I will decide at that time if I wish to continue on and achieve my Ph.D.
I was on track and I was like hey It won't hurt if I gotten another job and get this money flowing back again. I eventually peeped a building being constructed in University Heights and I applied for it.
Motivation is defined as an inner drive that encourages action or feeling towards a desired goal. It is moving forward and not staying static. A person’s efforts are energized, directed and sustained towards achieving their goal. It is a basic desire which begins with a physiological or psychological need which triggers a behaviour that is aimed at a goal or incentive. For example hunger motivates the need for food. Desires and goals are the inherent strength that drives us to move, take action or plan to achieve. The processes that give behaviour strength and purpose are needs, cognitions, emotions and external events. Reeve (5th Edition).
At the end of the year 2015, I was given life-changing by my employer Enroll America I begin 2016 no longer with the organization. It was a potential consequence of the great work I led in northeast Ohio I knew could happen. I had led a tremendous staff and built strong coalitions that resulted in thousands of families changed with the security of Medicaid or reduced cost-health insurance. Resources were needed in other states where more needed to be accomplished so our work at come toward an appropriate conclusion. I knew this was the moment to return to my original passion of teaching. I set out the goal that in two years I would be graduating with a degree in teaching. This goal had could only be accomplished while being a husband and father.
Education has always been a primary concern for my parents, who taught me that if I need to succeed in life, I have to be educated. Following their guide, I have always valued and tried to get the most of any educational opportunity I have had. Having grown up in a business family, I have always been interested in focusing my career in the business field. My Mother and Father own their own company, and they are constantly talking about business, which has inspired me to follow their path. When my parents retire, they want me to carry on their legacy. For this reason, I have decided to pursue my studies in the field of Business and Leadership at Marylhurst University. I want to pursue a well-rounded education at this established university where I also can have life experiences in the outside world, which will ultimately help me to become a successful leader in our family business.
In daily life, we need motivation to improve our performance in our job or in studies. Motivation is an internal force, dependent on the needs that drive a person to achieve. In the other words, motivation is a consequence of expectations of the future while satisfaction is a consequence of past events (Carr, 2005). We need to give reward to our self when we did correctly or we has achieve our target. Reward is something that we are given because we have behaved well, worked hard, or provided a service to the community. Theories of motivation can be used to explain the behavior and attitude of employees (Rowley, 1996; Weaver, 1998). The theories include content theories, based on assumptions that people have individual needs, which motivate their action. Meanwhile according to Robbins (2001), motivation is a needs-satisfying process, which means that when a person's needs are satisfied by certain factors, the person will exert superior effort toward attaining organizational goals. Schulze and Steyn (2003) affirmed that in order to understand people’s behavior at work, managers or supervisors must be aware of the concept of needs or motives which will help “move” their employees to act.Theories such as Maslow (1954), McClelland (1961), Herzberg (1966) and Alderfer (1969) are renowned for their works in this field. The intrinsic reward or also be known as motivators factors is the part of Herzberg motivation theory. Motivators are involve factors built into the job or the studies itself such as achievement, recognition, responsibility and advancement. Hygiene factors are extrinsic to the job such as interpersonal relationship, salary, supervision and company policy (Herzberg, 1966. There have two factors that are called hygiene fac...
Finally Looking back since I returned to school maintaining a 3.8 GPA, I felt that my first semester in the accounting program has been difficult and grades have been hard to attain, but I realized that my work experience has been helpful as it allows me to return to school with organizational skills and the intense desire not to give up despite the difficulties and perform well as I continue the journey to my degree. I hope that I can get practical experience in the field though part time internships and volunteer as well.
My last seven and a half months have consisted carrying out the work placement element of my college curriculum in Fexco offices in Killorglin. I was placed into the Finance department to coincide with my degree major of accounting and finance where I undertook a various amount of relevant tasks and projects. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working in Fexco and I gained a vast understanding of how the company is run and organized. I felt as though every day was a learning experience and a chance to develop a further understanding of what the working world consists of. I was allowed to experience different roles within the finance department in an attempt for me to discover which one I enjoyed to most. Prior to my work experience I was very unsure
