As of 2015, if one earns an income of at least $6,300, they are required to pay income tax (Publication 929 (2015)). This includes minors, who cannot vote. While this is the most recent income tax information, minors have always had to pay income taxes. A minor and an adult who earn the same income will end up paying the same amount in taxes despite the inability of the one to vote. Requiring minors to pay income tax is an unjust policy that has the potential to discourage initiative and productivity as well as cause needless financial challenges in lives of minors.
The taxation of minors is “taxation without representation.” While the current taxation of minors and the taxation of the American Colonies before the American Revolutionary War

Minors may not feel motivated to put effort into their jobs or to even get a job. When, at minimum, a tenth of one’s earnings has to go to a government in which that person cannot participate in any way, the willingness to work hard can be diminished. Minors may be less productive when they realize that while the government is not willing to accept their votes, it is more than willing to take their money.
While exempting minors from income tax is by all means a reasonable and fair step towards working minors, there are potential drawbacks. Adults could funnel their own funds through their children, and by doing so, evade income tax. Regardless, while there would definitely by loopholes created by exempting minors from income tax, it does not detract from the fact that minors should not be required to pay such taxes.
There are several benefits to exempting minors from income tax. Exempting minors from income tax would be an initiative for minors to be productive. More minors would get jobs and be better prepared financially for financial independence. An increase in young workers would promote a better economy. Workers who began earlier in life would have more experience and be able to provide more valuable services. The all around results would be beneficial for individuals and the
Taxes. We hate to love them and love to hate them. The mere mention of the word can stir heated debates and has done so for centuries. None was more prevalent than during colony times. During this time, on one side was the British Parliament while on the other side were the colonists, both arguing, either verbally or in written text, about which side did or did not have the right to tax the colonies. Soame Jenyns was one of these men who sided with the mother country in the tax debate.
Soame Jenyns, a member of the British Parliament from 1741 to 1780, wrote a pamphlet called “The Objections to the taxation consider’d” in 1765 in which he defended the Parliament’s right to tax the American colonies. Jenyns is clearly writing this to the colonists to read, almost seemly in a mocking way, as stated in the very first paragraph, “…who have ears but no understanding…” He then goes on to bring up three key points that the colonists have given as reasons not to be taxed by the
They depend on their parents for nearly all needs such as food, clothing, and tuition (DiBacco, 4). Only a few of voters in the age bracket pay taxes with majority still covered by their parents’ health insurances until they turn twenty. In spite of all the dependence, the 26th constitutional amendment enabled both parents and their children who are still dependent on them to have equal mandate in influencing the direction the governance of the country. It would make more sense politically if independent citizens of the nation, who are able to pay the massive taxes, pay their own rent and have a spouse and children are accorded more authority in determining the government that comes into power. They are more knowledgeable and experienced about the problems facing the US than some of the voters in late
... later minority youth to join full time staff, is a best practice for human resource management (Bolman p.146). This principle encourages people to work well in hopes of a promotion, creates loyalty and allows for younger staff to learn from older, more experienced members.
Out of all Canadian age groups, the voter turnout for young voters is the most disappointing. In specific today’s youth are less likely to vote, less interested in politics, and know less about politics compared to all other Canadians. This brings about a great deal of concern, as young people are the future of this country, and are expected to uphold the expectations put on them by their older counterparts. Youth are still being affected by the consequences brought about by politics; they still go to school, get jobs, get sick, and so forth, so why is it that they feel indifferent?
If we don't take action against taxation without representation, our country will take our freedom, just like in the 1700’s.
In the past, there have been many minors who have done numerous of acts in which they are punished in a reasonable manner. Just imagine if the parents of these children were put on trail instead of the minors. Why should a parent have to suffer the consequences for their child’s mistake, in which they probably had no idea what the child was doing.
When the British government created new tax laws and adapted a more stringent policy of tax collection, the colonists viewed it as an unfair burden. Even thought the tax rates at which the colonists were being asked to pay were much lower than their British citizen counterparts, they saw it as unfair. Colonists deemed the new taxes unfair because of long held belief: the idea that colonists could n...
While not always seen, overall, teenagers get far less privacy than adults do. Between schools checking through the belongings of their students without solid evidence to allow it, or parents monitoring the activity of their children online, teenagers today are subject to much of their privacy being taken away. It is true that this can sometimes be helpful in busting drug dealers or keeping teenagers from getting involved with bad habits online. However, it can also have an adverse effect, ruining the relationship between a parent and his or her child, or other relationships throughout the rest of the teenager’s life. Teenagers should be allowed more privacy, if not as much as adults have, as it will keep them less fearful, as well as help to keep their interpersonal relationships strong and their emotions in a good state.
Though perhaps not as powerful as adults when it comes to the federal government, students are equally important. They are affected just as much by the activities of their superiors as are any other minority in America. Government class can be beneficial in educating minors about how their government relates to them and how they can influence their authority. By speaking out and making themselves heard, minors can be just as effective in their efforts to modify the government to fit their needs. In a democracy, the most important voice is the voice of the people. Age should not be a defining factor in how significant a group or an individual's views are. If America cannot cater to the will of a relatively large percentage of its citizens, how can it call itself a true democracy?
Taxation is an extremely controversial topic in the United States because in order to continue to enjoy the American comforts of healthcare, social security, national and neighborhood defense, and regulated clean water and air, to name a few, we continue to increase the demands of our government without wanting to pay for the supply of services. Remember, money is a currency and can be used to consume, invest, save, pay loans (including credit cards), or pay taxes. If asking various families what it means for American’s to have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as described in the Declaration of Independence, the responses will vary drastically.
Nozick argued that taxation is a forced labor, and therefore, it is wrong and immoral. Next, I am going to constructs Nozick’s argument.
England was a country that colonized many other countries and kept them under their rule. The government of England made sure that the citizens of the colonies did not have the same rights as the citizens of England. There was a conflict between the American colonies and the England government which was, as a result, the tension between the British need for income to finance the war that took place in the early 1700s and the Americans on the other hand had a desire for independence . The British government, therefore, imposed taxes on the colonists and strived to have them under their grip. This essay seeks to analyze the
New laws that are being set for the country are violating of The Eighth Amendment. Another justified way to punish juveniles is to set them in jury and when they are at a mature age, place them in adult court and potentially place them in adult prison. Researchers findings give us a more explanation of criminal rates that occur by minors, but it cannot be a reason for juveniles to be left
A college degree is increasingly seen as a key to success in the 21st century. Does that mean parents have to pay for it? From the time a child is conceived in their mother’s womb, it is the parents’ responsibility to provide the best life possible. In an effort to ensure this for every child, Georgia’s statutory law states, “It is the joint and several duty of each parent to provide for the maintenance, protection, and education of his or her child until the child reaches the age of majority, dies, marries, or becomes emancipated, whichever first occurs.” O.C.G.A. § 19-7-2. While wanting the best for their child, some parents insist, that college should be a top priority after high school, arguing that having a college degree helps one find a better job, earn a higher income, and build a better future overall.
