Minimum Driving Age

“Life is always a bumpy road, eventually you just learn how to drive on it.” Teens start to drive at the age of sixteen through school or outside programs. The controversy now is should teens be driving at sixteen or older. Most adults want the driving age be raised to the age of eighteen. The minimum driving age should stay the same at sixteen because teenagers are able be more experienced and gaining responsibility.

The minimum driving age should stay the same at sixteen due to the fact that most teenagers have much experience on the road. Teenagers are spending hours of time mastering the techniques on driving. Teens need fifty hours behind the wheel and ten hours at night. Driving with a parent or guardian for a certain amount of time allows the student driver to get feedback on their driving ability. The law requires that all students must take classes in preparation to drive. Sophomore year in high school,

students have an option to take drivers education in which each individual is instructed and taught the concepts on driving. Students also have an opportunity to get an even more sufficient amount of driving outside of school driving programs. Teens are required to take multiple tests to learn the basis of driving. School instructors give students quizzes and tests to see if they have down the concepts of driving. In order for the students to even get in a car, they must take tests to get a permit or a license, in which he or she must get a certain score to obtain the permit or license. Teenagers have multiple opportunities for improving their experience on their driving.
Throughout driving, teenagers have gained responsibility. High schoolers can be able to participate in extracurricular activities. Their parents do not need to pick them up every day they have practice. Teens can take part in activities outside of school and not asking for rides consistently. At the age of fifteen, students are able to obtain job opportunities. They are not bothering the parents to drive them back and forth when they can drive themselves. With jobs, teens are able to make money to help their parents out abundantly. Teenagers, who can drive, are now able to gain more social skills. They can carpool with each other which enable them to interact with each other and build a strong relationship. Students can participate in school events such as football games, where they can meet new people without their parents dragged in between this. Teens are capable of taking responsibility on or off the road.
The minimum driving age should be raised because there would be fewer accidents, teens are incapable of handling a vehicle, and are easily distracted.

Teens driving at an older age would create fewer accidents. Accidents are bound to happen regardless the age of the driver. In the article “Traffic safety facts” table 2, clearly states that in 2008 twenty five to thirty five year olds had the most total fatal crashes of 19.8%. Teenagers are incapable of handling vehicles. As teens grow, they will learn more concepts on driving and will be able to drive on their own. Some adults cannot handle their vehicles on their own because they “know” how to drive better. Teenagers are easily distracted by their phones on not giving attention to the road. Laws have been passed in some states regarding all cell phone use are prohibited while driving and especially if the driver is novice. Adults nowadays are on their phones texting or calling while driving. The minimum driving age should be raised but adults are equally equivalent to the mistakes teenagers

With the driving age at sixteen, teenagers are able to be more experienced in their ability to drive and gain responsibility. Teenagers have the ability to be more experienced on the road. They have the opportunity to gain responsibility that comes along with driving. In contrast, the driving age should be raised but starting teens early can have potential outcomes. Teenagers are not the only people that make mistakes adults are nevertheless no better.
