Milton Snavely Hershey (The Chocolate King) was born September 13, 1857 in Derry Township, Pennsylvania. He was an American confectioner and philanthropist. He is the well founder of The Hershey Chocolate Company and the “company town” of Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Early Life
Milton Snavely Hershey was the son of a Christian family. His family were members of Pennsylvania's Mennonite community. His younger sister Serena, died at the age of four due to Scarlet Fever. Scarlet Fever is an infectious bacterial disease that affects primarily children, and can cause fevers and a distinct scarlet rash, normally located on the tongue of the victim. It is mainly caused by streptococci.

He could then acquire supplies of fresh milk he needed to perfect fine milk chocolate, which at that time was a luxury product. Hershey then developed a formula for milk chocolate and aimed to sell it to the American public. Through many attempts, he created his own formula for milk chocolate. The first Hershey bar was produced in 1900, then followed by Hershey's Kisses in 1907, and finally the Hershey's Bar with almonds made an introduction in 1908.

On March 2, 1903, he began planning on what was to become the world’s largest chocolate manufacturing company, unfortunately he did not know and expect it would become such a large company. The facility was completed 2 year later in 1905. Hershey’s milk chocolate became the first nationwide marketed product of its kind. Because the land was in the center of many dairy farms, He was able to use fresh milk to produce quality milk chocolate. He still experimented and tried to perfect his process of making milk chocolate using the techniques he had learned to make caramel by adding milk.
