Milton Hershey “One must have reasonable optimism. It is the force that makes the world go round.” Milton Hershey is a man who started his own company from scratch. He is the man who created the feel good food everyone uses today, The Hershey Bar. Mr. Hershey’s net worth is $100+ million; his company’s net worth is approximately $4 billion. He was 88 years old when he passed away. To start off with his story, the beginning of his life wasn’t the easiest. Mr. Hershey was born on September 13th of 1857, in Derry Township, Pennsylvania on a small farm. His father was never really around during the first 10 years of Milton Hershey’s life. They were always moving because his father was trying to get “cash fast jobs” to support his family, but by the time it was 1867 his father cut himself out of the picture all the way. With all of the moving Milton dropped out of school at the age of 14 and expressed an interest in candy making. At the time he took up a job at Royer’s Ice Cream and Candy shop where he became an apprentice. …show more content…
“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” Was what someone somewhere said.
Milton Hershey did a lot with his life for not having that much; he was very adept at what he loved to do. He got a job at the age of 13 at a printing press. However, he did get fired for being mischievous; kids will be kids. He had also borrowed money from his aunt to set up his own candy shop at the age of 18. In 1883 Milton moved back to Lancaster and started his own caramel candy shop called Lancaster Caramel Company. He later sold that company to start his new business. His company that he owned last was his biggest accomplishment that is still thriving to this day; his Hershey Bar company that started in
1894. Importance is someone's opinion, but everyone is important in their own way. There are far greater people who have made bigger differences in the world, or even just small differences that had a big effect. I personally think the world, mainly America, would not be the same if Milton Hershey did not create his company. The Hershey Company has made so many different types of candy bars and sweets that made billions for the company and Mr. Hershey. With making all of those candy bars they have helped people, even though it may not seem like it. On holidays everyone loves to buy candy, and candy bars are a last minute life saver. We also can not forget about all of the “heart-breaks” people go through and feel that need some comfort food. For a man who started his own company from scratch he made a big impact on the world. Even without a father he did a lot and was modest about it in his own ways. Getting to start his own companies and being a success almost right off the bat was amazing. Nobody will forget what he has contributed to this world and the world of business. Milton Hershey was an astounding person, but more of an astounding difference to this country and world.
WHAT COMPANY MAKES IT TODAY: The company that makes jolly ranchers now is the Hersey Company

Ooka Shohei named the last chapter of Fires on the Plain “In Praise of Transfiguration.” Through the whole novel, readers witness the protagonist Tamura transform from an innocent soldier to a killer. Readers watch him go from condemning the practice of eating human flesh to eating human flesh for his own survival. At the end, Readers see Tamura’s redemption as he shot Nagamatsu who killed and ate his own comrade Yasuda. What was the difference between two men who both killed and ate human beings? To Tamura, the guilt of eating human flesh distinguished himself from Nagamatsu who cold-bloodily killed Yasuda. As Tamura recalled, “I do not remember whether I shot him at that moment. But I do know that I did not eat his flesh; this I should certainly have remembered.” (224) The fact of him shooting at Nagamatsu had no importance to Tamura. However, his emphasis on not eating
Sammy was able to bring attention to himself, but it did not work the way that he had hoped it would. The girls most likely didn’t even acknowledge that he even quit. He tried very hard to get Queenie to see him and accept him, but that didn’t work either. Since Sammy’s attempt to impress the girls did not work, he was left standing in a deep shadow called life. I agree with Nathan Hatcher who wrote, "Sammy quits his job not on a matter of ideals, but rather as a means of showing off and trying to impress the girls, especially Queenie" (37).
The story takes place in the summertime of 1960 on a Thursday afternoon. Sammy is employed at the A & P grocery store located in the middle of a town north of Boston, about five miles from the beach.

His voice rose under the black smoke before the burning wreckage of the island; and infected by that emotion, the other little boys began to shake and sob too. And in the middle of them, with filthy body, matted hair, and unwiped nose, Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy (Golding, 290).
Dean Arnold Corll also known as the Candy Man, was born into a nice loving family. Although his parents divorced in 1946 they thought it would best for their two young sons to have both parents, so they remarried in 1950, only to get divorced once again three years later. After Dean’s parents divorced for a second time his mother remarried his step father Jake West. Dean Corll was a shy, but serious child who didn’t socialize much with other kids it was said that he appeared to be a lonely child. At a young age he developed a heart murmur. Overall it was said that Corll was a good student who maintained generally good grades. His mother owned a small candy business that Dean worked in while in high school. In 1963, it was reported
In the novel, “Of Mice and Men”, Candy is one of the main characters, who symbolizes some major themes. He is the oldest worker and his job as a ‘swamper’ who cleans the bunkhouse. He has spent majority of his life in the farm, working for someone else. He also has his dog, his best friend. He is usually described as “careful” “shuffled” and “slow”. This shows that he is a very slow and thoughtful man. Candy symbolizes several things about America in the 1930s.
Have you ever wondered what the wolf's side of The Three Little Pigs story was? Well, Jon Scieszka gives his readers the opportunity to see a different perspective dealing with this very circumstance. In many of his books, including The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by A. Wolf, Scieszka has used this style of writing that varies from the norm. Every turn of the page gives rise to new wonder and suspense as to what the reader will encounter as he or she moves through the pages of this intriguing book. Many of us grew up hearing fairy tales and nursery rhymes and most of us accepted them the way that they were. However, Jon Scieszka likes to take his readers on "adventures" through the "other side." He twists well-known stories around just enough to challenge the view that we have had for so long, yet not so much that we are unable to realize what story he is "imitating" or "mocking."

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, is a story about Lydia, a young bi-racial girl that dies at the age of 16, by drowning in the lake. Although, I am still reading and discovering the whole story of her death. Through reading this novel I am discovering how members in Lydia’s family are and how her life outside of home was a secret from them. The plot of this novel is in the Northwest of America, Ohio in 1977. There is an undeniable significance to the author setting this novel in the 1977 in Ohio. This plot sets the novel to show a disconnect of races during that era of the United States. Within the first could chapter the author illustrates how the family, and Lydia have experience a type of discrimination. Which is accurate with the plot, the 1970’s in Ohio, especially in a predominately white suburb. I personally feel that is a great plot setting from the author because with the ominous third person somewhat guides the reader how to feel about the characters.
