Raymond Carver: A Working-Class Writer

Raymond Carver was a working-class writer.
Raymond was born in Oregon on 1938. By the time he became 3 years old, his family moved to a city named Yakima, located in Washington. His family was a working-class. His father was a saw-filer working in local saw-mill. His mom took many hard jobs like waitress, and more. He started to help his father at the saw-mill.
When he was 18 years old by the time he was graduating his high school. He married an16 year-old Maryann Burk after graduation. When he became twenty years old, he had two babies. He stopped helping his father at the saw-mill, and started to take various jobs to maintain his children and wife.
He stated to study literature. He took creative-writing course at Chico State College on 1958.

He worked during daytime to maintain his family, and went to night classes held in Humboldt State College to study. He received his first degree there. He published some stories and poems for the first time of his life while his family moved to Iowa City, Iowa.
His life begins to get harsh. He had to work very hard to maintain his family. But even if he worked so hard, his family had serious issues with their economic situation. He and his wife began to have some trouble with each other. He became really concerned of his writing career, and started drinking alcohol.
