This book is about a girls who is shopping with her best friend and losses her purse and her mobile and a ring her boyfriend bought her and everything else in her purse. She has an older sister Matilda, a mom and a dad. Eleanor's (the main character) boyfriend (William) gets upset at Eleanor. Later a girl in year 12 who is good at making jewellery (lily) is asked if she can make a new ring for Eleanor. Will went to her house but he didn't realise that she was having a party and lily forces Will into the hot tub to get back at her boyfriend! A person at Lily's party takes photos of it and posts it on face place. In the morning Eleanor sees the photos and gets very very upset! One day her family comes home and they realise that they have been robbed and because they don't have enough money for contents insurance all of their laptops and jewellery had been stolen!! For a while Eleanor and her grandma start writing snail mail to each other. Eventually Eleanor moves on from Will and starts to help her parents to save money for a new phone. Her mom owns an event planning business so Eleanor decides to help her mom. Soon her real best friend (Carmelita) comes down from Queensland to be with Eleanor as she has no friends anymore and to go to the school dance with her. At the school dance Bianca Ponsford gets in trouble and has to get sent home but she goes missing in the lake. Carmelita and Eleanor go looking for Bianca for hours. Their dresses and shoes are ruined! As Eleanor did not have a phone they went looking for the nearest pay phone but it was clogged with chewing gum. By that time they were really cold. While reading the novel an individual would find out that Louie is the son of two Italian immigrants, few years after Louie was born he moves to this small surber city called Torrance with his family. While living in this town Louie family has to fight against prejudices of the citizen not wanting this Italian family living in the neighborhood. In the first few chapter someone would learn that in the 1920s Torrance ,California was very prejudices to the Zamperini family by trying to get the city council members from letting them move into the city.Meanwhile, Louie Italian heritage did have a small effect on him as he was becoming an adult.
Her big brother Gavin is in jail because he was court shoplifting. Every week Bridget recieves a letter from Gavin most of the time she is crying because she misses him so much. she also finds a boy called Menzies which helps her through the tough time and Bridget helps Menzies through his tough time.
On their way home from school Jenny and Willie hook up. Then on the weekend, Jenny, Johnny, Willie and his family decide to go to the lake. He talks to a counselor whom he really likes. Willie does not want to go into a Special Ed class that the school is referring him to. He feels hopeless, and even jealous of his girlfriend for her athletics. He tries to play racquetball, but his dad gets frustrated with him. That night he hears his parents arguing over him. He hears his dad say that he thinks it would have been easier if Willie had died in the accident. From there he suspects Jenny and Petey of getting together, and finds out that they are.
