Depending on how you look at the situation determines how you see the facts. If you are only looking at the money in a paycheck then it may appear that the military is under paid. However as you begin to look into all the benefits that are available you begin to see that the military is paid very well. It is important to look at the many advantages and disadvantages to being a member of the Armed Forces. Beginning with the advantages, the average person entering the military for the first time will earn an average of $20,000 a year in basic pay. In addition to basic pay, a service member earns $368 a month in Basic Allowance for Subsistence, $1080 a month for Basic Allowance for Housing, $474 a year in Clothing Allowance. When you decide to dedicate your life to the military there are certain freedoms that change while you are in uniform. First is the Freedom of Speech. While you are in uniform, you must not make any statements about anything dealing with politics. Second is the Right to Bear Arms. You are not allowed to wear a weapon while in uniform or on a military installation. Lawful Search and Seizure. The Commander is authorized to conduct a health and welfare inspection of anyone who lives on a military post at any time. Last is Trial by a Random Jury of Your Peers. The military has the Uniform Code of Military Justice where the Commander of a unit is authorized to conduct Non Judicial Punishment if you are found guilty of any
