Memory is a powerful tool required for one to grow as an individual and gain knowledge. Memory is defined as “the power or process of reproducing or recalling what has been learned and retained especially through associative mechanisms” (Webster). One’s memory can be compared to a computer 's information processing system. When we need to remember an event, we gather the information into our brain, which is known as encoding, and then we store the information and are be able to retrieve it. There are many ways for one to improve their memory. This memory aid technique comes in many forms that can be fun and easily memorized for some people. Mnemonic devices can vary from songs, pictures, symbols, words, phrases and even faces of other individuals (Terry W.S). They can also be used for everything, ranging from school related information to everyday task/information. For instance, the music mnemonics is commonly used amongst little children because they remember it better and faster. Like the ABC song or the fifty nifty song. Another example is acronyms, which are commonly used in math and science classes. Like in math class the acronym to remember the order of operations is PEMDAS (Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally). Likewise with Anatomy and Physiology, the phrase used to remember the eight small bones in the wrist is Never Lick Tilly’s Popsicle, Mother, May Come Home. Another example is the popular acronym to remember the seven coordinating conjunction for English, which are For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So (FANBOYS).
