It can take roughly around fourteen years of continuous education and trainings to become a clinical physician because they are demanded with eight years of college and medical school, along with training and education requirements necessary to become a successful physician. More or less it takes about four years of undergraduate studies and an addition of another four years at medical school. After completing, the student leads into an estimated four to eight years of internships and residency concluding their training (it also depends on what specialty it might be). To apply for medical school, no specific major is needed to be accepted, but they are required to have prior undergraduate classes in any of the basics; English, math, chemistry,
biology and physics. It is also deeply recommended to have prior experience volunteering in any kind of healthcare environments. When it comes specifically down to end of life care or futility, whether the patients wants to continue or not, there are many things that physicians have been trained to do. First of all, “physicians are not obligated to provide treatments they believe are ineffective or harmful to patients” (Kasman, 2004, p.1054) Important qualities such as compassion, patience, communication skills are key to being a great doctor. Without them, they would make certain situations such as prolonged therapy harder for the patients, families and the doctor’s themselves. Compassion is ideal whenever it comes down to the sick or injured experiencing pain because they need to remember that this isn’t just another patient or case to succeed on. Patience is also important because doctors work throughout crazy shifts that can start or end in the middle of the night. Therefore if there were to be patients who are in fear of medical treatments, then physicians have to patiently help them and make sure that they are ready for whatever is needed to be done. And lastly, communication skills are an essential part of this field. Why? Because without that skill, then there wouldn’t be a reason to be a doctor in the first place. It’s important to have great communication between the parties; patient, family members and doctors. There are many roles when it comes to the job of a physician. One of them is to “…promote communication, education, and discuss related to end of life care preferences and their implications among the patient and their families in order to facilitate improved decision making” (Karnik & Kanekar, 2016, p.5).
Complete a four-year pre-medical courses as an undergrad. It is a requirement for some grad programs that you take a MCAT test. A requirement of 90 credits for some colleges with a B.S or B.A degree. It is outrageously competitive to get into medical school. A GPA of 3.6 is what is considered for applying into medical school. There are many qualifications for class selection that go into being chosen. Applicants are selected on a countable amount of things such as scholarships, characteristics, personality, references, MCAT scores, and personal interview. It is important to gain some experience in volunteer work, paid health care experience and extracurricular activities. Taking a leadership role during college shows that you are organized, confident, responsible, and reliable. Getting a letter of recommendation to show your outstanding performances will also be a great
The road to gaining admission to medical school and becoming a physician is long, difficult, and intensely competitive. Once admitted, however, medical students spend the first two years primarily in laboratories and classrooms learning basic medical sciences. They also learn how to take medical histories, perform complete physical examinations, and recognize symptoms of diseases. During their third and fourth years, the medical students work under supervision at teaching hospitals and clinics. Following medical school, new physicians must complete a year of internship that emphasizes either general medical practice or one specific specialty and provides clinical experience in various hospital services. Physicians then continue in residency training, which lasts an additional three to six years, depending on the specialty. Immediately after residency, they are eligible to take an examination to earn board certification in their chosen specialty. Most traditional specialties include the following: anesthesiologist, cardiologist, dermatologist, family practitioner, gastroenterologist, internist, neurologist, oncologist, pathologist, psychiatrist, pulmonologist, and urologist

An author’s way of writing and portraying a character are one of the important things to note when reading a novel. Whether they use third or first person as their view point, have their main character have an underlying dark secret that is not revealed until the end of the novel. However an author wishes to write their novel, there is always a drawback to it. Kazuo Ishiguro’s way of writing his novel Never Let Me Go is in a first person perspective where the narrator, Kathy H., reassess her life of being a clone but the way Kathy remembers and discusses her memories of living in Hailsham is hindered by the fact she inputs her own feelings and thoughts into what happened in the past.
Do you think its fair that players are credited for what they do, when cheating the game? Mark McGwire excelled at the game of baseball and got credit for all of his accomplishments, yet he cheated the game and used steroids. Babe Ruth, considered one of the greatest baseball players to play the game of baseball, who never cheated and set a great example for all who play baseball. Baseball has drastically changed over the years, especially in the cheating scandals of steroids; Babe Ruth set a great example by excelling in the sport and doing it clean, contrasting with Mark McGwire. Their existence shows how society accepted honesty and doing it the clean way in Babe’s era and how society accepts the scandals and dishonesty of Mark’s era.
How would you feel if your devoted dog was discriminated against based only on what he looked like? Canine breed discrimination is a real problem in today’s society in the United States. There is always an enormous amount of hype when one hears about a dog attack. The first thing people want to know is what kind of dog was involved in the attack. That breed of dog then gets labeled as “dangerous”, quietly forcing people to change their opinion on a certain breed based on an action of only a couple of dogs.

On July 2, 1962, the first Wal-Mart store opened in Arkansas, and over the next 50 years, Wal-Mart became a retail giant. Holding the title of the world’s largest employer, only comparable to the United States Department of Defense and Chinas Army, Wal-Mart employs over 2.1 million people. Sam Walton’s philosophy was low prices. Instead of offering good sales every once in a while, Walton offered an “always lower price” than competitors on things that ordinary people use every day. This philosophy continues to attract more than 140 million shoppers per week. This staggering amount of shoppers helped produce a revenue of $443billion for fiscal year 2012 alone (Matthews, 2012). With more than 6,000 stores in 14 countries, Wal-Mart produces remarkable revenue each year (Hesterly, 2010). With literally billions pouring into the company, one must assess how the money is controlled and if its accounted for by the best contemporary management techniques on the market. While Wal-Mart thrives on the use of benchmarketing and lean accounting, the Theory of Constraints paired with lean accounting could produce staggering results for Wal-Mart in terms of financial management.
One year ago I realized that drinking and driving is very dangerous. My cousin Janet had everything that anyone will ever ask for in life, a car, a job, a boyfriend that loved her more than anything else in the whole world, a son and a promising future. All that changed when she decided to drive home from a party after drinking. She fall asleep at the wheel, crashed her car very bad into a ditch. Janet was my role model who I looked up in many ways, she always inspired by how hard she worked, but all that changed in one day. For nearly two months she remained in coma and now she is spending several time in rehabilitation to help he learn basic motor functions such as talking, walking and swallowing . For the rest of her life she will likely suffer from memory loss, dangerous seizures and even impaired speech.
Southeastern University is a private, Co-ed, Christian university. SEU’s main focus is to equip their students to be a next generation of leaders so that they can enter the real world as influential servants to their careers and communities. Southeastern university offers a plentiful amount of study programs, even the program I am interested in which is Human services. I selected this school First because it is a Christian college, and Second because of the programs of study. I chose to go to a Christian college because I grew up in a Christian household and because I believe in Jesus. I also chose Southeastern University because of the programs of study. SEU was one of the few colleges that had a program of study that I was interested in.
Most scientists agree that humans are contributing to global warming effects around the world. The existence of the polar ice caps and the rate at which they are melting are threatened by global warming. This threat is leading scientists to use geothermal energy in our everyday lives in hopes of preserving the polar ice caps. In order for people to thinking about helping to preserve them, they need to understand polar ice caps. Because polar ice caps are melting, there are many issues occurring in our world such as natural disasters. People are impacting the melting of the ice caps but, the ice caps are also impacting people as well. One alternative to using fossil fuels is geothermal energy. Geothermal energy can change the way we use resources from the earth forever, and potentially slow the rate of global warming.
Fictional literature can be categorized into many different genres: drama, romance, science fiction, tragedy, comedy, horror, and gothic. Gothic fiction borrows from horror by sampling mystery, dire setting, and chilling architecture. Romance is sampled in gothic fiction by the use of characters, firm emotions, and misguided love. Greenblatt writes, " Gothic became a label for the macabre, mysterious, supernatural, and terrifying, especially the pleasurably terrifying, in literature generally; the link that Romantic-period writers had forged between the Gothic and antiquated spaces was eventually loosened" (584). Horace Walpole wrote The Castle of Otranto in 1764. Walpole single-handedly sparked a new style of literature, gothic fiction. Walpole also coined the word seredipidy. The Castle of Otranto is referred as the the start of gothic fiction as a genre. What is gothic fiction exactly? How does gothic fiction use characters to enrich the work? What function does setting and architecture play in gothic fiction? How does gothic fiction create immense emotions within the reader? Finally, if Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto is the true beginning of gothic fiction, did the story influence all works after The Castle of Otranto was published?
