Most scientists agree that humans are contributing to global warming effects around the world. The existence of the polar ice caps and the rate at which they are melting are threatened by global warming. This threat is leading scientists to use geothermal energy in our everyday lives in hopes of preserving the polar ice caps. In order for people to thinking about helping to preserve them, they need to understand polar ice caps. Because polar ice caps are melting, there are many issues occurring in our world such as natural disasters. People are impacting the melting of the ice caps but, the ice caps are also impacting people as well. One alternative to using fossil fuels is geothermal energy. Geothermal energy can change the way we use resources from the earth forever, and potentially slow the rate of global warming.
There are many types of ice caps that the planet relies on. One type of ice is called frozen ground, frozen ground is soil or rock in which part or all of the water has been frozen. Frozen ground is common in places like Alaska, Greenland, Iceland, and even Canada. Another type of ice you might find is called ice shelves. They are platforms that form where ice sheets and glaciers have moved out of and into the ocean. Ice shelves and ice bergs are important area of study for scientists to better understand our earlier years on Earth. But with the melting of the ice shelves and ice bergs, it is becoming incredibly harder to study the earlier days of Earth. A floe is similar to ice shelves but is a sheet of floating ice which is on the surface of the sea or is a detached floating portion of ice. There is also sea ice which is essential for lives and the customs of Native Arctic people, such as food, shelter, and water. ...

... boats you could use geothermal energy to reduce the gas needed in countries around the world in the near future. With new technology you can heat houses in the winter and cool houses in the summer. They can also create electricity for cars, houses, buildings, etc. these are just some of the ways that geothermal energy could be used as.
In conclusion, the polar ice caps are melting due to global warming and earth is in danger of collapsing. It has an impact on all forms of ice caps found on Earth. You need to know the issues like coastal flooding or rising sea levels to get a better picture of what is occurring in our everyday lives now. The only things on earth that can make a difference are the people, and they can change the world if they all work together. People have already started; people have found alternative ways to use energy such as geothermal energy.
In the essay, “Global Warming is Eroding Glacial Ice,” Andrew C. Revkin argues that global warming is the primary cause for many of the world’s natural disasters; including flash floods, climate change, and the melting of the polar ice caps. He includes multiple accounts of expert testimony as well as a multitude amount of facts and statistics to support his theory that global warming is a threat to the world. However, in the essay “Cold Comfort for ‘Global Warming’,” Phillip Stott makes the complete opposite argument. He argues that global warming is nothing to be worried about and the melting of the polar icecaps is caused by the interglacial period we are currently in. After reading both of these essays and doing extensive research on both viewpoints, I completely agree with Revkin that global warming is an enormous threat to our world today. My research not only helped me to take a stand but it also showed me the invalidity in Stott’s essay.
An author’s way of writing and portraying a character are one of the important things to note when reading a novel. Whether they use third or first person as their view point, have their main character have an underlying dark secret that is not revealed until the end of the novel. However an author wishes to write their novel, there is always a drawback to it. Kazuo Ishiguro’s way of writing his novel Never Let Me Go is in a first person perspective where the narrator, Kathy H., reassess her life of being a clone but the way Kathy remembers and discusses her memories of living in Hailsham is hindered by the fact she inputs her own feelings and thoughts into what happened in the past.
In the movie “Ice and sand” it talks about the polar ice caps. These ice caps are located at the north and south poles of the Earth, and take up a large potion of the earth’s water. Ice caps fluctuate from year to year, growing and shrinking with weather changes. Greenhouse gasses are causing these ice caps to melt more and more every year though. If the ice caps were to melt completely, it would raise our ocean level ten to twenty stories about what it is now. This would send places like Nova Scotia, Vancouver, and New York completely under water. Scientists are not really quit sure what will happen with green house gases, whether they will cause a flood from melting the ice caps, or whether it will send us into another ice age. If it were to send us into another ice age, only people in very southern countries would be likely to survive due to the extremely cold whether.
How would you feel if your devoted dog was discriminated against based only on what he looked like? Canine breed discrimination is a real problem in today’s society in the United States. There is always an enormous amount of hype when one hears about a dog attack. The first thing people want to know is what kind of dog was involved in the attack. That breed of dog then gets labeled as “dangerous”, quietly forcing people to change their opinion on a certain breed based on an action of only a couple of dogs.
In a typical household thirty-one of the energy consumption is for heating and cooling, geothermal heating and cooling can save on energy consumption up to fifty percent, and the amount of greenhouse gases that get emitted up forty percent when compared to mechanical based heat pump.
The amount of heat and quantity is very high to produce geothermal energy; even though it is a very good source of energy there are downfalls. Geothermal is not a widespread source of energy. Because it isn’t a common source of energy, there is a lack of equipment, employees, and infrastructure to develop this type of energy. Along with this ...
Climate change is a fact. Humans are causing it, and it is perhaps the most serious issue that humankind is facing today. Starting from the Industrial Revolution the amount of carbon dioxide in the air is increasing constantly. Consequently, the continuous increase in earth’s temperature is a clear indicator of how carbon dioxide effects the earth. One of the major problem that global warming is causing is the melting of sea ice in the arctic. Due to the melting of the sea ice, global temperature suffers. In order to stop the global climate change, the congressional committee on environment must pass a legislation to regulate the use of fossil fuels, because climate change in the arctic is causing all the ice to melt, the permafrost to thaw, and it has huge impact on the vegetation and the wildlife.
Geothermal energy is one of the oldest sources of energy. It is simply using and reusing (reusable energy) heat from the inside of the earth. Most of the geothermal energy comes from magma, molten or partially molten rock. Which is why most geothermal resources come from regions where there are active volcanoes. Hot springs, geysers, pools of boiling mud, and fumaroles are the most easily exploited sources. The ancient Romans used hot springs to heat baths and homes, and similar uses are still found in Iceland, Turkey, and Japan. The true source of geothermal energy is believed to come from radioactive decay occurring deep within the earth.
During the 21st century our country and our planet as a whole is in energy crisis. We have used too many oils and fossil fuel that our non-renewable resources are running out. Oil is limited and is at outrageous prices, this result is making our economy suffering. With fossil fuel and oil as the main source of energy the people of this planet need to start looking for an alternative energy source because our fossil fuel will not last forever and fossil fuel also polluted our planet. This is where a renewable energy comes in. I will start talking about one of the oldest renewable energy know to man, one of the many renewable energy we have today are Geothermal Energy. Geothermal energy is one of the many different ways we can preserve our fossil fuel. It is one of the oldest energy resources out there. During the ancient time, the people back then uses geothermal energy in form of hot water from the nearby hot springs. They used the hot water, to bathe, heat their home and also produce electricity. The first industrial uses for geothermal energy occur near Italy in the 18th century, according to (Geothermal Energy History, 2014). In 1904, Italian scientist Piero Ginori Conti invented the first geothermal electric power plant in which steam was used to generate the power, according (Geothermal Energy History, 2014). Geothermal Energy is also better for the environment because it does not involve burning and polluting our ozone layer. You may ask what is geothermal energy? The definition of geothermal energy derived from its name. Geo means earth and thermal means heat, so geothermal is earth’s natural heat. Geothermal energy uses the earth heat and by adding rain, you have created steam. The steams are then creating heat and electri...
Most of the world energy is currently met by the utilisation of fossil fuels, which leads to deteriorating environmental problems such as excessive atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. In Ireland, most electricity is now generated by burning fossil fuels such as peat. Coal and natural gas. Natural has is currently the largest contributor at 45% (Dineen, et al., 2016). Coal is next at 14% and peat at 9%. One way of improving thus would be further implement renewable methods of producing electricity. Wind, solar and geothermal energy are methods which could be implemented. Geothermal energy has may advantages over wind or solar energy as a renewable source because the earths heat remains essentially constant. Therefore, geothermal is reliable and inexhaustible. It is not affected by the climate or weather like wind and solar energy. It is also more cost-effective as the heat pumps can be operated at a relatively low cost. The water and steam used in the geothermal system are put back into the earth so there is no waste. Geothermal plants would be environmentally friendly as they do not burn fuel to generate electricity. They release little or no carbon dioxide and other harmful compounds (Craddock, 2008). It has been predicted that by 2070, 60% of all the world's energy will come from renewable energy sources (Craddock, 2008). This would greatly reduce the burning
...t’s geothermal energy is just about infinite and will be able to long out live other alternatives. As technology development progresses on geothermal plants, it will become more of a supplier for the worlds increasing demand for power, and yet will continue to run as a clean natural and renewable energy source providing businesses, industries and homes with sustainable energy.
Geothermal energy is energy from Earth’s heat. Geothermal energy has some advantages over other types of energy. One is that it is available over 90% of the time compared to coal plants only getting 75%. That means that while many power plants, like solar plants and wind turbines, and even coal plants can’t be producing energy anywhere near all of the time, geothermal energy plants can be working nearly all of the time. Recently, scientists drilling into the Krafla volcano in Ireland, led by Gumunder Omar Friedleifsson accidentally discovered that magma can be a useful way to get geothermal energy. This happened when the scientists found magma 7,000 feet into the earth. They soon realized that the water heating the drill they were using, and the extremely hot magma made a superheated steam tha could be chemically altered to power a turbine. After the discovery, scientists estimated that geothermal energy from magma could produce 25 MW of power, which is 5 times more than current geothermal energy wells makeInterestingly enough, this more powerful energy would also be cheaper, because conventional geothermal energy needs expensive perforated piping down the entire hole, while geothermal energy from magma would only need it for about 100 meters. Also, unlike fossil fuels, another cheap energy source, geothermal energy is renewable, and it does not harm the environment a lot. This one accidental discovery the scient...
Geothermal power plants are a great resource to use in regions where there is naturally occurring heat from the earth. When considering what is environmentally cleaner or safer for the atmosphere and for human well-being, geothermal has proven worthy to countries and different regions throughout the globe. If there is a willingness to pay an expensive price and drill extreme distances to provide geothermal energy, there can be many benefits. Though the benefits may be a positive influence and environmentally safe, large amounts of land can be consumed and taken up permanently. Countries around the world continue to evaluate and decide the effectiveness geothermal plants have on the environment and towards the people.
Global Warming One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”).
Global warming is an increase in average global temperatures. This will lead to rising temperatures of the oceans and the earth’s surface. Coal is a main contributor to global warming because so much electricity is produced from coal-burning power plants. According to the book Global Warming by Peggy Parks, “In the United States, more than 50 percent of all electrical plants use coal, which also provides power for about 40 percent of the total electricity generated throughout the world” (43). Global warming is also caused because of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. Many people say that global warming is natural; however, people speed up the process. Global Warming needs to be taken serious because as the temperature rises, it causes melting of polar ice caps, a rise in sea levels or unnatural patters of precipitation which can result in floods. This can also have an effect on wildlife such as the food chain. Many species have been dying of starvation and many have to move to different places due to the temperature changes. Possible solutions to Global Warming is for people to switch to LED light bulbs as it gives the same light and uses less electricity, wash clothes in cold water, buy less products, and to spread the
