Many people have had a horrible job that has made the number one spot on their worst job list. For me the worst job I have ever had was working at McDonald’s as a cashier. Working for this company was a total nightmare from having the worst customers, the terrible coworkers, and the awful managers. To begin with, many customers that came to McDonald’s were extremely rude. For instance I had this one grown lady curse at me through the speaker on the drive thru just because I took too long to take her order. Another example would be the teens that came in every afternoon. They would not respect any of the employees and would break things. One of those teens even broke the machine used to pay with debit or credit cards. They would also ask for water cups, which were given free, and steal soda. These teens would also make huge messes in the lobby. They would not throw away their trash and would spill soda and ice cream everywhere. I would then get complaints and have to clean up after them. Lastly, the worst customer I ever had was a man yelling at me because we did not have a whopper. The whole time I was attending this customer I was trying to explain to him that we did not serve those here and that the whopper was a Burger King …show more content…
When I first started working there I had to take the training videos on a computer. This computer was in the break room. As my new coworkers went on their breaks I was notified all the gossip going around. I was surround by adults acting as if they were teens in high school. Moreover, my coworkers were extremely lazy. I was a cashier and sometimes I would have to fill the orders myself. When I would have to do this the guys on the grill and table would take forever to make the burgers. Workers are being taught specific roles in the workplace that are mapped out for them the way it is required to be, which leaves “[...] no room for initiative, creativity, or even elementary rearrangements” (Etzioni). Etzioni shares his idea that fast food industries are training “robots”. These “robots’ follow commands mindlessly, whether it be cutting into homework or family time, dropping out of school, or doing whatever it takes just to keep a job that is supposed to be the initial training ground in work experience.
Coming into work one day, I knew something was wrong. When I saw long lines forming down each Isle, people complaining that the wait was too long, and register lights flashing for help. There were no head cashiers available or supervisors who knew anything about the front end. I would agree that working is not a good thing for teenagers under some circumstances but at other times it is good. First, jobs affect school involvement and attendance in bad ways. Second, jobs often provide “on the job experience,” but much of the time the experience taught is useless. Third, fast food jobs may provide a disadvantaged status. This is my story and this is how it all began. I was going to work on a Tuesday and I had heard on the radio that there was a Wall Street stock market crash but I hadn't really cared. about it till then. The “hmm…how good were they? tippers” stick out as a sore thumb would. They have the attitude of “They are working for me,” and “The whole world revolves around me.” They also say things such as, “Is my food suppose to look like that?” and “Where is my refill?” They are the customers who always have a disgusted face and are not satisfied with anything. The “hmm…how good were they? Tippers” are not only high maintenance but also the worst tippers. When the bill comes, they feel they can justify giving a small tip because of their “lack of service”. Many can guess the server likes these customers least. These customers not only put the server in an angry mood but also the rest of the employees that must hear from that server.
Marketers are often accused of marketing to children to gain higher profits. Young children are targeted because they usually do not know right from wrong. Many people have criticized McDonald’s for advertising the Happy Meal towards young children for higher profits. Some people consider it unethical because the Happy Meal is so unhealthy. However, McDonald’s has taken many initiatives to show that it is a corporation that does not manipulate children for profit and that they care for children. The Ronald McDonald House Charities organization was created by McDonalds in 1974 to help children in need. I would see the principal’s machine on a regular basis and always think, “How in the hell does he get in?” After meeting the principal, I was taken to meet my fellow co-workers. I first met the head janitor, named Jim. He was very tall, and not very muscular. He was an amazingly friendly man, and I could tell he was passionate about his job, but was very restrained socially because of the people he was forced to communicate with on a daily basis.
BURNT POTATO CHIP PICKER - For minimum wage you get to watch cooked potato chips quickly fly by on a conveyor belt and you have to pick out the burnt ones. This is done in 90+ degree temperature, with a thick coating of oil in the air. With these three ingredients, it isn't long before motion sickness (watching the chips fly by) increases with the smell and temperature causing you to want to barf. And you know how it is having a minimum wage job, you don't get a break and have to keep your nose to the grindstone. Needless to say I turned down overtime.
I cut this older couple in line. They stared at me for a while but did not say anything to me and let me ordered my food. The cashier looked shocked but Chick-Fil-A customer service is very impeccable, so she did not say anything. The second time I cut the line was at a bar on St. Patrick’s Day.

I was only seventeen when I started working. I lived in a very small city that I downtown area full of different stores. During the summer times, most of the stores downtown would post job listings looking for young individuals who wanted to work during the summer season.
