McClintock (2004) states, Scholar practitioner is committed to the well-being of clients and colleagues. Moreover, he emphasized that scholar-practitioners require unique understanding, knowledge and perspective through effective interrelations within the communities of practice. Capella’s scholar-practitioner learning model focuses on education identity, trainings, group knowledge, theory, application,and analyzing. I currently work in a call center environment and it’s important to be knowledgeable, people want to know that you are able to provide accurate information and sound confident in doing so. Being a practitioner scholar in this field of psychology is the same. In order to guide people in the right direction in a counseling section, you want to know what you are speaking about and sound confident when you are speaking about it.
The occupations that I have chosen to analyze using the three elements for this assignment are paraprofessional, what I am currently, and a teacher, what I am going to college to become. Teachers and paraprofessionals work side by side, collaborate, plan, and share many of the same experiences. However, paraprofessionals are often not treated as equals and has created some ethical judgement regarding treatment of the paraprofessionals from other teachers and administrators in the business of education. In order to become a research psychologist, it is necessary to have the proper knowledge about the human brain and the career itself to be able to understand the full extent of the research he or she is doing. However the institution must be willing to support mentorship programs. For educational institutes and clinical practice settings mutual partnerships regarding co-operation and support are needed to develop the capability of the mentor to provide effective mentorship to mentees (Jokelainen et al., 2013). Jokelainen et al. (2013) suggests the mentor know the curriculum which will ensure consistency. One drawback was a lack of partnerships made between educational institutes and clinical practice placements, collaborative partnerships are needed (Jokelainen et al., 2013). Educational and clinical institutions should be providing peer-review process of the mentor’s capabilities, along with proper support, adequate preparation. These actions will strengthen the motivation of the mentor to the student’s.
