McDonalds Restaurant Observation
This paper is about observing leadership qualities in fast food restaurants. Before this experience, this author thought that some of fast food managers were rude and inappropriate to their staff. However, this great experience of dining at one of Illinois Valley’s fast food chain restaurants changed the writer’s perspectives.
This observation took place at McDonalds Restaurant on Shooting Park Road in Peru at noon. The environment was noisy because there were a lot of little children present. The staff consisted of three young men and two middle aged women. The manager was 5’11” tall, Caucasian, about in his forties, dark brown hair with no gray hair present, and a little stout. The manager was wearing a maroon button up shirt with black pants. There was one flaw noted by one of the cashiers. This author ordered 10 piece chicken nuggets, two hamburger meals, sweet tea, and diet coke. The order was worth $11. However, the cashier gave this author $13 for change. She stated that they were too busy to fix the problem at that time.
The Man...
At Chipotle, a Mexican fast food restaurant, the customer approached the first station where he ordered a burrito. The first employee asked “What can I get started for you?” The customer then replied with “Andrew will get a chicken burrito.” The employee proceeded then to warm a tortilla and ask the customer what kind of rice and beans he would like. The customer responded in similar fashion, saying, “Andrew will take some brown rice and no beans.” It was then that the customer began to look at the customer with a confused look. She did not say anything, and she continued to keep creating the burrito. When the customer went to the next part of the burrito-creating process (with a new employee), he did not begin his responses with “Andrew will have” but rather stating what he wanted on the burrito (e.g. “pico, sour cream and cheese, please.”). The next employee was the cashier, responsible for ringing up the customer for his food. The cashier asked the customer if the burrito was going to be it for him. The customer responded with “That’s going to be it for Andrew today.” The cashier then acknowledged the customer and then proceeded to check the customer out. Once the checkout was completed, the customer said “Thank you,” and left the restaurant.
The McDonalds Company has come to the limelight as one of the fast foods outlet causing health problems to the young people. The youngsters have taken the matter to the judiciary to contest for justice. They have also engaged the media which has publicized the company in that respect. Nonetheless, it is not McDonalds Company alone. The writer confesses that he once dealt in that venture and is remorseful about the woes bedeviling McDonalds.
The term “fast-food” is usually distinguished by food served very quickly to a customer by drive-through or carry-out. Fast-food restaurants are highly associated with low-cost and malnutrition foods with brief consumer and employee interaction, and below average cleanliness based on restaurant health inspection reports. For millions, fast food restaurants are the source of positive associations with birthday parties, play dates and accessible comfort food. Fast food restaurant chains are a popular and convenient choice for eating on the go in our modern society. There are certainly several positive aspects to fast food establishments, but are the potential health detriments and collective negative effects on society worth it? Or would it be better to support locally owned and operated restaurants? Here I will examine several facts pertaining to these restaurants, as well as explain why I personally believe we should not frequent these establishments, but rather support local restaurants.
The employee of McDonald’s is a part of the service and so is the customer. The two together both influence the service that is being offered. In a restaurant, all customers are present while an individual customer is getting the service and the behaviour of the other customers can determine the satisfaction of the service delivered to the individual customer. This is the reason why the management of McDonald’s should make sure that the customers involved in the service do not interfere with each other’s

Strategic management is the way of implementing different business strategies and plans to attain certain specific aims and objectives. It involves collection of decisions and different rules and policies that tend to define the results that are generated in the form of better business performance. For undertaking these activities, management should possess an in depth understanding and be able to assess the general and competitive external and internal business environment to take proper business decisions (Cornelis, 2010). McDonalds is an organization that offers a range of products and services in a very effective manner that makes it a market leader in providing fast food services all over the world. By enforcing suitable strategies, McDonalds can increase its level of sales and will also help in upgrading as well as sustaining the market by acquiring competitive advantage (Schoenberg, Collier and Bowman, 2013).
The purpose of this paper is to introduce you to the fast food industry, how it is everywhere in the United States and increasingly spreading globally. The majority of the fast food restaurants in the United States are dominated by hamburger fast food restaurants. Amongst the burger segment, McDonald’s is the number one leader in the burger industry, followed by Burger King, and Wendy’s respectively (Oches, 2011).
McDonald’s USA has been feeding the American society since 1940. Recently, the company has had various issues with people posting on social media as well as questioning the restaurant’s food. Millennials created controversy about what McDonald’s was serving its customers and this showed itself in ongoing negativity between social media, blogs, and news sites. This caused an extreme decrease in the restaurants sales. The tactic proposed was to become more transparent with the public, but the focused audience was “curious skeptic” millennials.
However, not only the high quality standards of food affects the business, the staff who are presently providing the service are entitled to establishes him or her self with their tone (the sound of the voice), manner (the level of maturity), language and body language well enough to satisfy the customer and to make them appreciated of feeling more welcomed and values them as a proper customer. E.g. if a customer was about to speak the staff operating the till would say hello, may I take your order please,' and when their products are given Thank you and please come again.'
McDonald’s has been one of the biggest fast food chain corporations that has worldwide share in the food market. The company’s appeals were fast service, menu varieties, and affordability, which capture majority of customers’ psychological needs. Furthermore, McDonald successfully builds a relationship with consumer by promoting donation campaigns and vitally involving in societal activities. In recent years, McDonald’s sales decline is affected by food scandals causing public mistrust of its food ingredients, which deviates consumers from fast, cheap and convenient food.
Running a restaurant can be one of the most stressful jobs as well as the most fun and rewarding jobs. If the manager is a good leader with excellent leadership skills and has great followers the restaurant will be rewarded. If not the restaurant will plummet in sales and no one will be pleased. While developing a business. staff is important to running a successful restaurant, it is also essential that management focus on its public relations as well as its sales and marketing strategies.
The coffee shop I decided to do my observation was the well known Starbucks just a couple blocks away. The reason I chose this coffee shop was because of it 's style inside, it attracted me. For example, one side of the wall has a glass top, and the lower part of the wall, made of wood and painted in a bright red color, which was one thing that attracted me and stood out. Outside of the shop people can actually see through the glass wall and get to see what’s happening inside of the coffeeshop. By the entrance you see these two red ceiling lamps which were shaped in a flower bud and these two tall green plants. Once you were in, on the right of the shop there was a counter with food and things to put in your drinks such as milk, sugar, chocolate, etc and the colors and how the food was displayed and served was appealing to my eyes. Behind that counter there was a long table with different electronic devices plugged into the wall. On the middle of the those there is a fridge just for ice and when I turned to the other side and I noticed a big menu on the wall. Further more into the shop, there was an area filled with tables, chairs, and sofas. The tables were in different shapes, one was round and the others rectangular, also there was four bamboo baskets and I looked around and noticed that the walls in that area were decorated with paintings.
